Works well
This is a lifesaver for folks who need to run wiring through all kinds of things. I use it for 12 volt vehicle installs. Awesome product. Love how it wraps up for easy storage in the tool bag.

Good fish tape
Strong solid fish tape. Recently had to pull some cables through outside facing wall and it’s insulation. Fish tape worked perfect for my needs. Tape is strong and metal. Retractor is little tough to use due to how large it is on such a small device. Just not much real estate to get your hands around. Still not really the fault of the tool as I was looking for a compact version. Great for the occasional home use, don’t know how much I would recommend in a more professional capacity.

Gardner Bender EFT-21PN 25-Foot Cable Snake Great for the Novice new to fishing wires through enclosed walls.
Paid for itself in just one use. I had an electrician tell me he was going to charge me over $700 to snake wires through my walls. I live in an old condo and when it was built FIOS did not yet exist. The Internet cables snaked around my home making my otherwise very nice place look painfully ugly. I mean this cable went around two doors and lots of baseboard. It crawled at angles down walls and looked just aweful. I swore upon buying the place I would get rid of that cable snake if it was the last thing I did. Thankfully we needed to get a new alarm system to go with the new elevators and I had my chance. I had to make changes to accomodate the new alarm wires so this was the perfect time to get rid of the ugly fat coaxial cable snake. I asked an electrician for an estimate and he said $700 maybe more depending on how many metal studs he encountered. Yikes I knew that was not happening. I hate it wihen techs give me open ended estimates so I send him scrurrying to his next job. (See Stephen Kings The Langoiliers defines scrurrying very well!) So I set it upon myself to get the coax cable and a few other wires behind the walls. You know it was hard at first so I had to remove lots of drywall but in time I got the hang of it using this Gardner Bender EFT-21PN 25-Foot Cable Snake. This snake is just flexible enough to follow the walls internal features but also rigid enough to be aimed with surprizing accuracy. The snake is lubed by its own internal reserve. With work I suppose you can bend or break the snake but I never did. The snakes little head goes right through the metal openings in the metal studs of my home. Some of the walls have killer wide voids because the layout of my place is an odd demonstration of geometry gone mad. This snake crossed internal wall voids very well. because it did not droop when crossing a distance. The snake retained its rigidity at length making my work easy as pie. I finished snaking all the many wires and cables though the walls myself and with just a few small holes in the dry wall that I could patch up myself. I put one large hole in the drywall that I will have professionally patched for $45 so this Gardner Bender EFT-21PN 25-Foot Cable Snake easily saved me over $700 and you can't beat that walking or riding. I found that snaking wires through metal stud walls is not so difficult once you get used to the patterns and know the material. In mist metal studs there are voids to allow for the passage of cables. A good snake will detect the metal stud voids if you use it right. Also it is a LOT cheaper to pay a dry wall guy to patch small holes than it is to pay an electrician tons of money to fish a few fat wires through walls. I was a beginner a total green novice. I have cerebral palsy and autism with other disabilities and the Gardner Bender EFT-21PN 25-Foot Cable Snake had me fishing wires through walls like a blooming expert after a few little learning curve mistakes.

Worked great for me!
Review of "Gardner Bender EFT-21PN Cable Snake Steel Fish Tape, 25 ft. x ¼ in. Flat Tape" I bought this despite some of the bad reviews and after having used the fish tape, honestly can not even guess at how they had a problem with this simple tool... I bought this to run flat Ethernet cable (Cat 6 Ethernet Cable 25 ft White - Jadaol Flat Ethernet Patch Cable Short- Internet Cable with Snagless Rj45 Connectors – 25 feet White) under carpet across a room that wasn't easily accessible any other way. The very first tug to extract the fish tape made me think, 'oh boy, they were right.' I used a pair of pliers to grab the tip and pull it out a couple inches. Once it came out of the body of the reel, the tape itself unwound easily. NOT with the crank as the directions clearly say, you hold the reel with one hand and pull out the tape with the other. I'm 71 with arthritis in my fingers, this was NOT a challenge!! Due to the thickness of the tape, I was able to push it across ~15 feet of carpet between the pad and the carpet and it followed a perfect line to the far side. Honestly, I've been stalling on doing this job because I assumed that it would be a huge hassle, but with this fish tape it was absolutely easy. When I had the cable pulled across, I removed it from the fish tape and used the crank to wind it back up. If anybody cares about this part, once I got that flat Ethernet cable through to both sides, I gently pulled it all the way to one side and then the other to work out any twists that might have been introduced in pulling it through.

Surprising use for making homemade musical instruments.
This might be an unusual review: So, I did not use this for its expressed purpose. Instead, I cut the snake of spring steel into about 3 dozen lengths to use as tines for homemade thumb pianos (kalimbas, mbiras, what have you, look 'em up, you'll probably recognize them) The plastic casing stated that it contained some gnarly pthalates that are good for wreaking havoc on the human body, but it was assembled rather like Legos and came apart very easily, no crushing or cracking required. So that came off and went into the recycling, maybe to be turning into some other weird plastic mess, maybe to be dissolved into toxic goo, I don't know, it's probably not recyclable. Anyway, the spring steel uncoiled and I worked from there. It's not the best quality spring steel - it's not the best quality steel, period - but it keeps its form pretty well, and if you apply extra pressure, it'll keep that new form well too. For keys on a hand piano, it works so far. For that purpose however, the steel ribbon is a bit too wide, half a centimeter I think, and so these are all decidedly for bass tones. Affixed to a cigar box with an ugly, homemade nut, elevated and secured, it really does sound just fine. Some luck (or more likely, skill) is required, as many of them sound buzzy - still cool, just in a noise-genre sort of way. But hey, it's working out. Next time, I'd buy a spool of smaller fish tape. The thickness is good for this application, but yeah, maybe a bit too wide. Also, I have no idea what I'm doing. Anyway, great cable snake.

Frustratingly good
I wanted a easy to use fishwire that wouldn't spring undone and be difficult to put away. This one fits the bill but, like others, I find it an art to get the wire out of the drum.

Disappointed
My main pain point was the tip. If you're trying to run it through a media conduit pipe that's not straight or has only gentle bends, the tip will catch at some point. I didn't manage to get done what I wanted with it .. it'd have been MUCH better if the tip were spherical.

A good value for the money.
This tape works extremely well considering how it's priced compared to other reeled tapes of it's length. I've had absolutely no issues with unwinding or rewinding the tape even after I've made a mess of the tape by having tons of it unwound and loose all over the room. Two very minor complaints, though. First, the tape itself is a bit too rigid for my tastes, and due to the fact that it's flat it really wants to coil up when trying to use it in a larger cavity. Second, the hook/loop design on the end is too large and tends to snag on things especially the edges of steel studs when I was using it. I would have preferred a bull nose type end to it instead of a simple bending loop of the tape. The housing itself seems strong and the action of the handle for unwinding and rewinding is smooth and it has not kinked or got stuck in the housing at all yet. I can't see this not lasting the rest of my life considering I'm just using it around the house (mainly pulling ethernet through conduit) but if I were to somehow lose it I'd replace it with another of the same.
