Gardena resolved my ongoing, never-ending stupid project!

...to help me connect my brand new portable dishwasher and a hose to my kitchen faucet. Quick back story: I'm not the Amazon product-review type (guilt-ridden about it, too), but am an avid Amazon customer, and this product *pulled* me from the non-reviewer tar pit. With that said, I'm primarily writing this review to 5-star (*****) this Gardena kit and secondarily as a guide for anyone else that needs help with this stupid project. I figured I'd help the next Harry-homemaker out there - perhaps save you from the self-loathing stupidity and teeth-gritting frustration that my project seemed to have been fraught with. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROJECTS: Several separate projects needed to come together for my life to proceed: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROJECT 1: Connect my awesome new portable dishwasher to my Moen kitchen faucet. --> See NOTE 1 below for part names & quantities PROJECT 2: Connect my awesome new hose to my Moen kitchen faucet. --> See NOTE 2 below for part names & quantities PROJECT 3: Have both the dishwasher AND hose connected to the faucet AT THE SAME TIME --> See NOTE 3 below for part names & quantities PROJECT 4: Allow for quick removal & stowage of aforementioned dishwasher and hose; allow for normal faucet & sink functions --> See NOTE 4 & 5 below for part names & quantities -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRODUCTS & QUANTITIES REQUIRED: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE 1: [Qty. 1] SPT Model SD-9239SS 18-Inch Portable Dishwasher, Stainless Steel --> This dishwasher is the best thing I've owned for a number of reasons. Don't skimp on the the counter-top models. This guy has casters, is solidly built and shipped in some fricken awesome packaging. He has a stowable 5'-ish 110v power cord and a 4'-ish water-coupling hose set coming out of his back. He shipped fully assembled, instructions on how to run and maintain it, but no instructions on how to connect it to the sink. It did ship with a nice chrome 'quick-connect' faucet adapter with a FEMALE 55/64"-27 connection on one end, and a 'standard' quick-connect on the other. DISCARD THIS INCLUDED QUICK CONNECT for this project. Use 1 of the 2 Gardena 36002 Garden Hose Quick Connectors INSTEAD. Less parts = less leaks. NOTE 2: [Qty. 1] Water Right PSH-075-MG-4PKRS 75-Foot x 1/2-Inch Polyurethane Lead Safe Ultra Light Slim Garden Hose - Olive Green --> For hosing my deck and watering plants while I wash my dishes. It's a 2 hour 15 minute wash and I got other things to do! NOTE 3: [Qty. 1] Camco 20123 RV Brass Water Wye Valve --> Making my kitchen sink faucet into TWO faucets! NOTE 4: [Qty. 1] Gardena 9042-BK Garden Hose Quick Connect Starter Set --> FEMALE Garden Hose to MALE quick-connect adapter connects to kitchen sink faucet NOTE: It's the DARK GREY quick-connect adapter piece - if you're looking at their kit in the picture gallery, it's on the top right corner of the layout. --> FEMALE Garden Hose to FEMALE quick-connect adapter connects to 'water out' side of hose (the part in your hand when you water) --> MALE Garden Hose to MALE quick-connect adapters connect into the couple of spray-nozzles I have (like the Bullseye!) --> MALE Garden Hose to FEMALE quick-connect adapter connects to the 'water in' side of the hose (connects to my kitchen sink faucet!) STEP 2: Connect faucet-to-garden hose adapter to kitchen sink faucet. --> My MOEN kitchen sink has a male 55/66"-27 MALE connector, after removing the little aerator tip. To this, I connected the LDR 500 2050 55/64"-26 FEMALE end of the adapter, leaving the 3/4" MALE Garden Hose connector available. STEP 3: Connect Garden Hose Y-adapter to kitchen sink faucet --> The brass Camco 20123 with shut-off levers has a nice soft grip to ensure the fitting is snug. This leaves two (2) Garden Hose 3/4" MALE connectors exposed. Test for leaks by shutting the shut-off valves and turning the water on. STEP 4: Connect the FEMALE Garden Hose to MALE quick-connect adapters to each one of the available Garden Hose connectors. --> The Gardena 9042 kit has 1 of the adapters and the Gardena 36002 kit has the other one. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- REVIEW SUMMARY: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I realize that this is a lot of information, and it's contained in the unlikely space under the Gardena 9042-BK Garden Hose Quick Connect Starter Set. I decided to put it here, mainly because this kit contained several key components that I could not locate anywhere else, and when I did find some similar parts, the Gardena kit price became the determining factor. It all came together when I found this kit. And I love the Gardena quick-connect (with the metal parts), there's no leaking anywhere, and my project is finished!!! Like it so much that I bought more

Bought one set of this and after using it for a week ordered four more, all have arrived and I am a happy camper. Makes the garden job a lot easier

One set leaked, one set didn't

I could not wrap my head around exactly what parts I needed so I figured this connector kit was a good place to start. I ordered two sets which turned out to be exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, one set leaked no matter what I tried, but the other set did not.

A cheaper way to get one female and two male ends than buying them separately

But never could understand why you would want the other oddball pair (male nipple but with female threads paired with female quick connect with male threads). I want to couple both ends of my hose together to hang. Using that oddball set would make you have to carry around a double ended male piece. Silly. I remove the “Stop” piece from the female couplers. Can’t drain the extra weight/water out of the hoses before I store them if the stop is in place. Anyway, I’m just switching over to Gardena form some of the pseudo aluminum ones from Home Depot because they corrode after a few months of use and leak like a sieve.

Doesn't stop the water when releasing attachments from quick connect

The metal quick connects don't work as well as the plastic quick connects. The metal quick connects don't always stop the water when removing attachements.

Good product but pricy

I like this product. It is easy to install and so far holding up not sure for how long since other brands always leak. I’ll leave it to test if time. The only take is that it is pricy.

Great value vs. buying individually!

This kit is a great value vs. buying the connectors individually, even if you only buy it to get the two metal connectors for each end of your garden hose. For what I paid for the entire kit (at present prices), I could only get one of the metal connectors by itself, but here you get both, plus some of the plastic adapters as well. You could easily spend double the money to assemble the entire kit from individual components, so bottom line, this is a fantastic value. In terms of fit and finish, what more can you say but top notch German quality? The entire set is made in Germany (stated on the package) and it shows. Connectors have good heft and do not feel, look or function like the imported garbage, they are the real deal. Puts the box store brass stuff to shame, looks better and works better as well. You can't go wrong with Gardena's premium metal connectors. They are rock solid and will likely be the last ones you ever buy. I will never go back to cheap, big-box garbage connectors after using these, not even their brass versions. These are a cut above and this set is worth every penny. If you're a heavy user or live in an environment where the plastic connectors aren't viable, say in the desert regions of the US, you can purchase metal versions of the plastic parts in this kit from Gardena (and here on Amazon) for a full metal connector system. In my case, it was totally worth it and I wouldn't go back to plastic. Quick disconnect systems for garden hoses are one of those items where you often get what you pay for, and in the case of Gardena, quality is worth the premium. Cry once, buy the best and have no regrets. If you really want to save some money, buy this kit to get five pieces for a little more than the price of one metal connector. Outstanding value!

Silly me

Silly me, I read the title "GARDENA Hose Connector Set-Premium Metal" and stopped there. The title is somewhat misleading "Premium Metal", as only the quick disconnects are metal, the male attachments are plastic. It's the male parts that are a problem for me, they are the weak point in the system and they don't like being stressed. I've had 4 of the male fittings break because they don't lay flat on the ground when hooked to my sprinklers. The stress put on the fittings by the heavy-duty hose I have causes them to fail. My mistake, but I won't be paying a premium price just for metal pieces that aren't subjected to the same strain as the plastic bits. I should have just bought the metal male pieces, so now I have to buy them to solve my problem.

Not all premium Metal

Purchased these as they had indicated in the title as premium metal. Should have read the fine print. Not all pieces are metal. Gardena make good products so will not send them back but not happy with Amazon. I had bought the same set a few years ago from another large box store but they were all metal and they were great. Buyer be ware!

The images are wrong, but the product works.

The images for this product are all incorrect. They show a premium metal product from Gardena. I've attempted several times to let Amazon know but they haven't corrected it yet. So the attached image is the correct product - Gardena 36004 Quick-connector Starter Kit. The parts are all plastic. It does work well, and I've used Gardena connectors for many years - it's a proven product. But you will find that eventually the plastic connectors will wear down and fail - especially if you unscrew the threaded ends on a regular basis. The premium metal connectors last much longer. I did find this same product cheaper at several local hardware stores, but if you can't easily get to a local store then delivery from Amazon was very fast (two days with Amazon Prime).

Pay Close Attention

The description and photos don't necessarily jive. Three stars because this is bordering on deceptive. Expected metal not plastic. I even ordered a second time (slightly different kit) and STILL didn't receive what I expected after pouring over the listing. One problem I discovered with the Gardena infrastructure is that you can't really have two hoses that you can simply extend to increase length without a ton of adaptors because they are trying to prevent not having to turn the source off.
