Reliable Quality

I like the quality of this product. I had it installed for several months now and the battery not showing any sign of weakness. Never missed a watering cycle and working great. I knocked down one star for the following: * It does not mention anywhere in the manual or Gardena website that this unit is waterproof. So I'm not sure if it handle heavy rain and stuff. * It is a 6 cycle...yes. So if you intend to irrigate the same area or two areas with all 6 cycles, you have plenty of time options. However, as in my case, I have each cycle irrigating a different area (due to low 2 bar water pressure I have). As a result, I have one time option for each area. With this advanced timer, a simple software update from Cardena can make this timer provide twice a day or three times per day for each cycle. This will make it more practical especially when using with the Gardena 6 outlet Distributor. * I have noticed on two occasions the clock lags few seconds. Got frustrated at first but later realized it might be when in the settings mode the clock seems not to advance so it gets few seconds off. But once the clock starts, it won't miss on time. It may not be a big issue after you figure it out but it is scary at first as you think the timer is malfunctioning and missing on the main function as a "timer" :) Overall it is a nice unit. Works great in my garden and I'm relaxed on the quality knowing my plants getting the water in timely manner. It has limitations but one of the best in the market.

I just put in a new lawn and need to water a large area multiple times per day for the first couple months. I bought this water computer + the Gardena-Automatic-Water-Timer-Distributor which has 6 outlets to hook hoses to. the programming automatically adds a 30 minute delay before it will turn the water back on to service the next outlet. this is so the distributor can switch to the next outlet in line. it doesn't need 30 minutes to do this. 5 minutes would be more than enough time & i know this because when we were setting up the hoses we just turned the water off manually at the faucet & it worked just fine. there is no way to change the 30 minute delay - which is a huge problem when the sun is blazing and your hydroseed is drying out. UGH. not only that, you can only water once / day unless you keep changing the start time. do yourself a favor and get an Orbit 58872N Complete Yard Watering Kit. I have 2 of these computers and they work so much better. it only has 4 outputs, but you'll be much happier. it is way easier to setup and you can have 3 sets of programmed run times per day (you can set how long each of the 4 outlets runs independently of each other for each set). it also has a feature where you can kick off a manual set whenever you want.

GREAT WATER TIMER

I purchased this product a year ago and it has worked great. I use it from spring to fall. Programming is very easy with up to 6 cycles. Very solid build. Uses a 9v battery. There was an earlier review that mentions having a 30 minute delay between cycles. Maybe they changed the design since the review because I can program mine with a 1 minute delay between cycles. The timer worked flawlessly - set and forget - your lawn and plants are watered automatically. Don't have time to spend watering - this unit is a big time saver. Use the timer with one of the Gardena distributors and you can easily water six different zones every day (or program which days you want to water).

A little pricey but works great and allows settings that no other timer does. Note that the Gardena site has a different model number for this which is also on the box that came - a little confusing trying to find the one I wanted.

Brilliant when it works...

Easy to use and setup. I have low water pressure, so my sprinkler is set up with 6 zones, fed from a Gardena 1198 Automatic Water Timer Zone Distributor. When it works it is great. Unfortunately, after 3 months of operation mine no longer opens the valve. It is now going back for repairs. Depending on the turn around and response from Gardena, I'll update this review (will they get a 5 or a 1?). Update: It was changed without question and the new model has functioned ever since flawlessly.

Absolutely wonderful timer

I've had this timer for six years now and it just keeps running and running. I've never had one moment of trouble with it. Yes, its pricey but I've gone through a lot of other cheaper timers and have come back from vacation to find they were dead. This and the expensive Claber are the only way to go if you want reliability. Plus it works up to 150psi and the timer disconnects so you can take it in the house and set it. Easy to understand programming too.

Best Water Timer Ever

Wonderful, really easy to programme much better than previous Gardena timer. We water 6 separate zones with this and have also bought the water sensor so it its wet - it doesnt come on. Thoroughly recommend

This control gives you total control of your watering. Programming is entered in easy steps, a must have if you are using a Gardena water distributor system, there is a set programme number 15 that automatically adds time for the distributor to change water outlets.

Excellent piece of kit

Excellent piece of kit. My only criticism is that you can't easily run each of the 6 watering areas manually to check for leaks etc

Usual quality from Gardena

Very well made and good clear instructions. They have gone away from the ball valve operation of their earlier devices, now using a simple solenoid to initiate water flow on and off. Time will tell if this causes a water hammer through the plumbing in the house. Easy to program and intuitive enough to work your way through the programming without the book, a big plus when it has been misplaced between seasons. Very pleased with them and look forward to as many trouble free seasons as I have from the previous models which are still going strong!
