Worth 5 stars.
UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW: I want people to know that my opinion of Growpetz, as it compares to the Furminator, is even higher now than it was at the time I wrote this review. I realized after writing this review that, by using the Furminator first to comb my dogs--that this was probably the reason that the Furminator got 20% more hair (because there was simply more loose hair to 'get' the first time around). Again, both the Furminator and the Growpetz are FAR superior to other dog combs I have tried (for whatever reason, the perpendicular-angled comb works better than a flat comb). And again, the teeth to the Furminator (short hair) and the Growpetz are identical in length and shape, best as I can tell. Thus, in my opinion, given its lower cost and two bonus blades, the Growpetz is The Best Deshedding Tool out there and the one I recommend.*** I purchased this because I had misplaced my Furminator for a long time. I have now found my Furminator so I can compare the two combs, the Growpetz and the Furminator. Furminator makes 2 separate combs with different tooth lengths--one for short-haired dogs (fur less than 2" long) and one for long-haired dogs (fur more than 2" long). I own the one for short-haired dogs. Growpetz, to my knowledge, makes combs of only one tooth length. By tooth length, I'm referring to the teeth on the combs. The 3 attachments for the Growpetz all have the same length teeth. Best as I can tell, the teeth lengths of the Growpetz and the short-hair Furminator are exactly the same length and look identical to each other. I have only tested the 2 combs on two dogs. One dog, our own dog, doesn't really count because even though she's a pit bull/weimariner mix, when it comes to fur she's about as close to a Mexican hairless as any dog I've ever seen. I tried the combs on her just for the sake of doing it but I got zero fur on either comb. The second dog is my current foster dog--a mix, breed unknown, but whose fur is about 1/2" long, closer to an inch in some places. Of the two combs, the short-haired Furminator got about 20% more fur off the dog in the same number of strokes than the Growpetz tool did. However, both the Furminator and Growpetz combs are far superior at removing loose fur than a couple of old dog combs that I bought years ago and gave a try. To me, 20% difference is not a big deal, and Growpetz had the added advantage, along with being less expensive, of allowing me to experiment with 3 different sizes of combs. I think Growpetz' tool is worth 5 stars.

Based on Golden Retrievers
Ok - so after spending HOURS researching what deshedder would work best for Golden Retrievers ... I couldn't find anything specific so decided to try this product instead of spending $50+ on similar products. Let me explain... My Golden Girls go to the groomer every 5-6 weeks and the groomer has told me several times over ... I can brush and brush all day and still can't get it all!! I would like to add that I brush my girls AT LEAST twice a week on top of their regular grooming. I would use a deshedding comb/brush and follow that with a fine comb brushing (you know the kind you poke yourself and bleed)!! It would take about 30 min+ per dog and they HATED it!!! NOT this time!!! I brushed each girl for about 15 minutes and they kept begging for more!!! They sat and just let me brush them :) Regarding the effectiveness of this product ... one Golden has a course and wavy coat and my other little girl (she's 11 months old) has a soft long straight coat. This brush works for BOTH .... without any issues!! I read that many people found that the button release didn't actually release the fur ... and this was a huge concern for me!!! At first I could see why people wrote this in their review and I was very hesitant to try this product because my little Golden (11 months ) is a tripod. She lost one of her back legs during birth (just for the sake of cuteness I will share that her name is Hiccup) and she can't support the weight of my brushing her back side without collapsing so I have to throw one arm under her and brush with the other... this is why that function is SO important for us to have ... otherwise the minute I move my arm from under her she will just lay back down. I will say that the first few strokes I struggled to get the hair to release from the brush with one hand and needed to use my other hand to grab the hair in order to remove it fully from the brush. However, after a few minutes I had it working quite nicely!!! Just give it a little shake as you push the button ... just a snap like shake ... nothing extreme. ;) To conclude I will say that I am THOROUGHLY impressed with this product!!! It does a great job at getting at that undercoat!!! I really wish I had taken a before picture of my course curly haired girl because it made that large of a difference!! They seem so happy now!!!

five star brush heads on a 2 star handel.
I was getting a bit tired of always sporting a dog and cat fur outfit, of course it did match my furniture. Deciding fur clothes and furniture was not the decor I was going for I looked into solutions. There are quite a few different brushes out there but from experience I have found anything other then a deshedding brush just straightens your fuzzy friends doo, which is great for photos but ultimately leaves the problem of the undercoat to be shed still. I have a dog that is indoor/outdoor and recently aquired 4 kittens from a random nieghborhood cat that decided my garage would make a lovely home for them. Having numerous fuzzy things of different sizes contributing to my current "fur shui" issue I found it really nice to find a brush that included 3 heads of different sizes. My dog, Zabú, is a smaller breed but larger then a cat. I wish I knew exactly what breed she was but I picked her up used so... Anyway the middle size brush head is perfect for her and the small one is ideal for the cats. Yes, that means I have one that had no use. Yes, that means eventually I used it on myself and now I am no longer shedding either. The one issue I have is that the handle is that soft almost "sticky hand toy" material. I found it is pretty anoying to be taking all the loose hair off my dog and cats just to have it stick to the handel of the brush and then some how end up back on my jacket. it appears by the photo that the company has switched the meterial but I can not be certain. If they have switched the handel material then 5 stars as the comb heads really are very well made and work extremly well. Every animal I brushed with these has really enjoyed it, to the point that if I move the brushes all of a sudden I find something furry trying to get my attention so they can be brushed again.

the three combs sizes give easy access to all areas being groomed
Only used it once will update on durability, Having been a dog handler for 20+ years I have used a multitude of grooming combs but I have to say that this little set dose the job well. No force required in use simple as petting the dog,the three combs sizes give easy access to all areas being groomed, very comfortable gel handle, easy to change out the combs. As I said will update on durability if required.

Deshedding comb
I do like this item and think it will be good but dogs don't like it so it must pull their fur. I will use it for the next couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Great for cats too
Very pleased with this. We bought this for our elderly long haired cat Ruby who is troubled by bringing up fur balls although we brush her a lot. This gadget painlessly removes her excess fur and she likes having it done too.
