Exact fit
I service sigange that’s outside or sometimes light fixtures inside freezers. These are the best ballasts for those fixtures that use the T-5 fluorescent bulbs.

Works great to make your own AC Sterilizer/AC UV light
This ballast is plenum-rated, so it is safe to use inside an AC unit - and it works great to make your own AC UV sterilizer! I used this ballast with two-each of: 36 Watt 110V, PL-L36W/TUV UV 265850 , 26585-0 Philips Compatible Sanitzer / Germicidal Lamp Bulb 36W 2G11 Base Leviton 23452-B Screw Mount Lamp Support Clip for Horizontal Mount 2G11 Base Twin Tube Fluorescent Lampholder Leviton 13455 2G11 Base, 4-Pin, Twin Tube Fluorescent Lampholder, White and mounted the bulbs/sockets/clips on some 1/2" aluminum tubing from Home Depot with nuts/bolts/washers to mount the clips and sockets. Add some 18 ga. insulated solid wire (600V rating) and wire nuts to connect everything (connect the two middle push-to-fit connections on each lamp socket with a short jumper, one jumper for each lamp base, and connect the two outside push-to-fit connectors to one red wire for lamp#1, one wire for lamp #2, and both lamps to the yellow from the ballast), split-loom tubing and cable ties to protect/neaten your wiring, and you have an up-town UV sterilizer that is also cheap to service. I have owned several brands of UV lights for my ACs, and they have all had nominal UV output, died (the bulbs, at least) after about a year, and cost far more than this ballast with the two double-bulbs noted above.

More like "DeadHorse"
This ballast apparently burns itself out if powered with a broken lamp or no lamp connected. That's pretty inexcusable for this century and earns it zero stars in my book. Here's the rest of the story, if you're interested. The first "transformer" for my Aqua Ultraviolet 57-watt high-output pond UV clarifier lasted about 13 years. When the second one burned out after only 3 years, I didn't feel like ponying up another $100 to replace it. So I did what I usually do: Reverse-engineered it. After cracking open the waterproof housing, removing the ballast unit (with the label peeled off by Aqua UV, like that was going to stop me) and removing all the tar-like potting compound inside, I found the model number printed on the circuit board and ordered this $25 exact replacement. Unfortunately, this one burned out immediately when I connected it. The problem was that the UV lamp plug connections had corroded, and this ballast is of such a simple, cheap, unprotected design (just 2 transistors) that it burns itself out when the output is open. I replaced the lamp plug, but decided to choose a better ballast. You should be aware that 4-pin fluorescent and UV "rapid start" lamps are intended for use with rapid-start or program-start ballasts, which preheat the cathodes momentarily before striking the arc. The preheating lowers the required starting voltage and reduces lamp stress. Indeed, that first Aqua UV ballast for this clarifier was a rapid-start type (more reverse engineering). At some point, they changed to this "instant start" ballast, and although it does work with rapid-start lamps, it has no preheating capability, and the higher starting voltage causes cumulative damage to the lamp cathodes each time the lamp is lighted. In the case of a UV clarifier which is only occasionally started, the difference is minor, but you can expect shorter lamp life when using this instant-start ballast with rapid-start lamps that are cycled on and off frequently. However, choosing the correct ballast was an exercise in frustration: just try to find voltage and current specifications for a 57-watt HO UV lamp! I finally selected a modern, program-start ballast based on educated guesswork. Please don't ask me for the model number; this sort of "off-label" usage requires extreme care and respect for the DANGEROUS HIGH VOLTAGES involved. If you have any reservations at all, please just buy the manufacturer-recommended replacement ballast for your application.

The 40 count is just one ballast
It works. I ordered a "40 count" listing thinking maybe it was a misprint - I received a single unit.
