I suppose it will do the job well enough
After waiting and waiting for this to arrive it did. It is packaged well in a heavy duty box, and in a plastic wrapper. It is folded and refolded and rolled. very little by way of instruction is included. I would advise you to watch a U-tube video on how to install one of these. This does NOT come with any kind of tape and you have to have tape to put it on your water heater, so be sure you have some good duct tape. The insulation seems pretty squished when you open it up and it is just covered with plastic sheeting on one side, so be prepared for the inevitable contact with the stuff. First clean off the top of your water heater, you need to be able to stick duct tape to it to hold the insulation on. When you unroll this be advised that the length of it goes around the water heater and the shorter section will cover top down to the controls. Have two people doing this to make it easier. Use disposable gloves, wear long sleeves and pants and it possible a mask. The insulation is horribly itchy. Unwrap the blanket, insulation side against your water heater and pull it around the back side and towards the front. DO NOT cover the vents or controls at the bottom. DO NOT cover the top of a gas water heater. Cut a slit from the top of the blanket down to allow you to slide it under the drain coming from the top and side. Use strips of tape about 6 inches long to connect the sides of the blanket to each other as you pull it snug. Cut out the area the controls are in so they are not covered. Don't worry that the blanket doesn't go below these controls, all the water is above them and below is just the heating apparatus and vents to allow it to breathe properly. Use the tape to make the blanket fit snugly along the slit at the side and use several pieces of tape to secure it along the top edge. Dispose of all excess pieces and wrappers and gloves/mask etc. Wash your clothes and take a shower immediately. Even though this blanket is pretty scruffy looking when you take it out of the package, being squished and folded etc. I think it will do a pretty good job in helping insulate the hot water and give you better results. It may seem expensive for what you get, and you could just buy a roll of insulation and wrap it around and tape it on, but that may be hard if your water heater is tucked in a tight spot like many are. Plus taping all the edges together would be tedious. This does at least provide a seamless blanket and really was fairly easy to put on.

Hotter water more quickly
After wrapping my 40 gal tall electric water heater, I noticed the water was about 5 degrees warmer and I didn't waste running water to get the heat. Saved $$ on water and electricity. Great item, but it took two adults an hour to wrestle and secure it into place as the heater is outside and enclosed in metal cover (southwest USA). We used additional metal tape to secure.

Wear Gloves and a Mask
Don’t be like me—definitely buy one, because it will last many years if the water heater is in an out-of-the-way spot. What I did wrong is to install it myself without gloves or a mask. So, the glass-fiber backing will penetrate your skin, resulting in painful itching, and no mask will find you coughing for a week. A second person helping is recommended. I’ve done this in the distant past (my last one lasted 30 years), and I don’t even use the provided tape—it just makes a mess. Instead, I use cotton string at the top, middle and just above the heater controls and tie off each course individually around the tank. This blanket doesn’t go entirely around a 50-gallon tank, but I assume it does around a standard tall 40-gallon.

Don't touch the Heat and Pressure valve
This is a good water heater jacket, but it was not big enough for my 40 gallon unit. DO NOT TOUCH OR WRAP AROUND THE H and P VALVE. This valve is on the front of your water heater. MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT WRAP JACKET AROUND THIS VALVE. The valve may start water leaking and not stop. CUT AWAY THE JACKET SO IT DOESN'T TOUCH THE VALVE If the valve causes water to leak, turn down the heat of the water heater and the valve may again operate properly. Or it may keep leaking. Use gloves, COVID masks, and maybe even eye protection when you install this jacket. It helps if there are two people installing this. There is enough tape enclosed to secure the jacket.

Covers the heater…
Covers around my 30gallon heater perfectly. Only exposing the top. I bought a separate pipe insulation to wrap around the vent of my gas heater. Too soon to tell how much this will save on energy cost but looks and feels like it should do well.

Not impressed
This type of insulation is so fibrous, it made the biggest mess I ever experienced with insulation. Hard to cut, hold in place and tape in together. Other blankets I have used we're not this hard and messy to install.

Two person Job
This is a 2 person Job. But with help it was very easy to install and tape in place. I chose to use additional tape as my heater was at the max limit of the wrap.

Perfect but itchy
It fits my 60 gallon tank perfectly. It insulation is fiberglass, exposed on the inside and plastic sheeting on the outside. Wear gloves and a mask when you install it. I followed the instructions step by step. I installed it myself in about 20 minutes.

Double-sided, eh?..
I was skewed by the "double-sided" claim in the description that evidently refers only to the tape, perhaps. The whole thing is a thin vinyl with fiberglass glued to it. I could have had the same mess during the installation with just a roll of fiberglass insulation and a vinyl sheet, for no more than half of the price. That R10 value should be closely looked at because there's no way the fiberglass is 3" thick once wrapped around the heater. There's no insulation for the top of the tank, which I was ready for. However, what's the point if you lose a majority of the heat this way? Very disappointed in the product, I thought more of the brand.
