Good enough

First, keep in mind that this product itself is not a double boiler; rather, it allows you to *create* a double boiler using two differently-sized pots you already have. This "trivet" sets inside the larger pot, which gets water added to it, and then a smaller pot is set inside, resting on this product. The most expensive double boilers you see are most likely a pot that has this functionality all in one; other double boilers are just the upper part that are shaped in a way designed to fit into a larger pot you already have; and cheap double boilers like this one are exactly as I just described. I bought this product as a cheap double boiler solution to melt wax for candlemaking. I fill an old pot that I now use exclusively for this purpose with a bit of water, set this product inside, and then put my metal candle pitcher on top of it. This works fine. However, as others have noticed, the paint or finish on this product is discoloring, and some is chipping off. I'm not really sure what it's made of. I'm not using it for food, so I don't really care; if you are using it for food, it may still not be a big deal since this product won't directly come into contact with it (though I suppose that depends on how comfortable you are with using the larger pot for food again later). For as cheap as this product is, I can't complain, and it seems sturdy enough that I'm not worried about it not lasting. However, if any of this concerns you, I'd probably spend a bit more. For my purposes, however, it's perfectly fine.

Gets discolored after first use, disappointing

This product has the perfect height and the design makes it very stable, which is why I chose it. However, I used it in my pot to create a double boiler and after the first use it looked like it should be thrown out! Good thing I had a different one as I wasn’t sure how safe it would be to continue using it. I note that another reviewer had a similar experience with it. Needs to be a better quality.

Works perfectly

I just finished using it for the first time. It worked perfectly. For about five bucks, I turned two pots I already owned into the double boiler I needed. And being about the size of a roll of duct tape, it saves me a lot of room in my tiny kitchen. It is very sturdy. I bet you could run over it with a car and it would still retain its shape. You put the device in the bottom pot, which is full of water. Then you place the smaller pot with the food to be cooked on top of this device.

Indispensable in my kitchen

I had one of these years ago but lost it when we moved and have been looking for a replacement ever since. This is so simple, but so useful. I put it into any but the smallest of my pots, add water to about halfway up the leg of the gadget, and plop another pot on top. Instant double-boiler, of any size I need. I pitched my "regular" double-boiler when I first got this, then had to use an overturned Pyrex custard cup when I lost it. So glad to have found it again!

Small, portable, practical!

Couldnt find my double boiler, but needed something small that I could transform something I already had into what I would need to melt chocolate and cheeses..... I put this ring in the bottom of a boiler, added water, and placed a glass bowl on top of it... Just perfect!!! I am thoroughly pleased!

Good for cooking (cheaper and take up less space) but also crafts

These are great. So much cheaper than buying a double-boiler and also they take up a lot less room in terms of storage. I use them for fondus and cheese sauce for mac and cheese etc. but also for when I make candles! I have several little metal pouring pots going on the stove at one time because they each have a different wax color added to them and these little guys make it easy to keep the wax warm in water.

I need something to keep the wax pot elevated and this is great.

I use this exclusively for candle making and so I don’t mind, but expect this to look rusty and ugly after one use. That being said it gets the job done, I need something to keep the wax pot elevated and this is great.

Works well and such a good price.

This is all I need to make a double boiler out of two pots. Looks kind it's not made of the best materials but so far so good. Supports even a bigger pot. Very happy with this and uses very little room in cupboards that are already crammed.

Cost effective

I haven't had a chance to use this but it looks good and will undoubtedly do what I need it to do. Way more cost effective than an actual double boiler pot set.

Works well with your own high quality pots.

This raises the pots in my set beautifully, with enough of a gap not to create a seal. I was able to make 3 cups of lemon curd, no problem. Thank-you for the helpful addition for a hard to ring item when one does have high quality cookware.
