Bigger than I thought
I am really new to dutch oven cooking. but...wow. What fun! This particular unit is the first I've ever purchased. But it has some nice touches that some other dutch ovens don't have. First, the general stuff. 6 quarts is...well...a lot. I was expecting this to be much smaller and am especially happy I didn't buy the 10 or 12 quart dutch ovens because that would have been out of control huge. As it is, I can make enough chilli that as a side dish, it easily serves 15. As a main dish, it serves about 6-8, though 4 big eaters could finish the pot. Heating is a little interesting. While it definitely cooks more evenly than a thin steel pot, I found that there are some colder and hotter spots that develop, though slight adjustment of coals can fix this. This is only noticeable when baking. Stews and Chilis of course, aren't really affected. I thought maybe I was just doing something wrong, but I've read others have similar problems with a variety of dutch ovens, so I guess this is fairly typical, and the simple solution is to move some coals around if you notice anything. Still, it is waaaaay more even in cooking that any other steel "pot" I've ever used, and pretty similar in even heating to the analon copper lined pots and le creusets in our home. On to more specifics. This particular unit has the top that you can place coals on and also can be flipped and placed on a bed of coals to use as a skillet. Nice touch. I do have a cheap flat aluminum topper that I can use for the dutch oven while I'm using the dutch oven topper as a skillet, so this works out well in case I want to heat up something and retain heat in the pot while doing the skillet thing. This unit also come with the lid lifter. When I was at Walmart recently, I saw another dutch oven with a topper where you could put coals on it, but that unit didn't have a lifter, so this was a nice add on from Camp Chef. Another nice touch are the legs. Many dutch ovens have them so you can put coals underneath, many don't. So having them is great. what's more. some companies make the legs too long so heat is harder to transfer, but the Camp Check version is perfect for briquettes, so this is another well thought out design component. All in all, when comparing the dutch ovens through various reviews, and also experiencing this one, I think it's clear that this was the right choice for me. One other note, if you get a dutch oven table, and you happen to select the smaller one, it's worth noting that with this smaller 6 quart 10" dutch oven, you can also put a tuscan grill next to it. Hope this helps and happy grilling!

Perfect for the price.
This is an awesome size, great quality for the price. It comes with the lid lifter which is a great addition to the cookery. There is a tiny slot for checking the temp, it was too small for any thermometer I had. It came seasoned. It cleans up fast and easy. The lid is level and I love the legs on top, I also like the flat surface of the Kidd for stacking coals. The legs on the bottom are helpful for stacking the ovens one atop the other and putting coals between them. The cooking times were spot on to my recipes. I was supposed to be able to make monkey bread in 20 minutes and 20 minutes was exactly how long it took. The kids decided to run down to the lake, so I pulled the potatoes out of the fire and through them in the Dutch oven and just like home, 45 minutes later I had perfect baked potatoes. I absolutely love this Dutch oven for the price and quality. I would have loved to have had all lodge logic as I have several pieces of lodge logic, but with three kids in hurling and soccer and hockey and one in competition cheer I opted to save a little green and I was not disappointed. The first weekend out I used this oven for 4 meals. I cannot wait for our next camping trip to try even more! We are adventurous camp chefs and have made lasagna, monkey bread, cinnamon rolls, brownies, bread, chilli, stew, potatoes, breakfast bake and ratatouille in the Dutch oven so far. The kids are asking us to try enchiladas on our trip in two weeks. Heck we may even try it in the back yard before we get to the state park a week early.

Nice
This is a decent setup, I think I'll like it just fine. I gave it 4 stars because the surface is a bit rough , other than that, it's great. I like the size and that the lid can be either flipped over and put on top of the pot to cook on, or put down separately to cook on as a griddle/skillet, being that it also has legs. Also, that you can put coals on top of it when used as a lid, it has enough of an edge on lid to hold coals up on it or to keep food from sliding off edge if used as skillet.. It's also great that it comes with the lid lifter and a slot, where you can check the temperature inside pot without taking lid off. Nice setup! Now, the "cons" to it, the surface is a bit rough compared to the Lodge cookware and when you go to season it with a paper towel or cloth, it does leave some lint on it. That is the only thing I don't like about it and I just sent the bread pan back of theirs, because it was so bad, but this piece I'm gonna keep and give it a try. I like it so much and I think the surface might be a little bit better than the bread pan.

This is probably fine if it's used in a campfire
The Dutch oven is just as described and will serve the purpose for which I purchased it quite well......with one small problem. It's a problem of which I was made aware before my purchase, but I purchased it anyway figuring I could correct it, which I did. It comes with three small legs on the bottom. This is probably fine if it's used in a campfire, but makes its use on a conventional stove difficult to impossible. Depending upon the stove grating if it's gas, it won't sit on the gas stovetop with its legs. The legs would completely prevent its use on an electric stove. My solution was to use a hacksaw and cut off the legs. It took little time since cast iron is softer than steel, but I'm sure it would seem foolish to purchase a utensil that requires such alteration before it could be used. The top of the lid also has legs and, together with the handle, make its use as a frying pan on a stove impossible. That's too bad as it is also well made and I'm sure would be fine on a fire. So it's great for camping, which is what it was designed for, but if you want one that can be used on a conventional stove too and don't wish to alter the bottom I don't recommend it. That's the only reason I gave it four instead of five stars.

Nice heavy duty Dutch oven
This is a nice heavy duty cast iron that works great over campfires and works awesomely in my oven! You can use it for soups, stews, meats, breads and biscuits. Just remember to thoroughly dry it and oil it so it doesn't get rusty. Highly recommend this quality item and I would buy it again

Quality, versatile, product
After reading and watching many, many reviews on Dutch Ovens, I decided on the Camp Chef 10" Deluxe DO. I was initially leaning towards the 12" version, but after seeing a comparison to a similar sized pot I had at home, I chose the 10". I'm glad I did since the 12" would have been a lot larger than we needed for a family of 3. The quality of construction is quite good considering the price point. While it's not as smooth as enamelware, or more expensive brands, I didn't have any issues with items sticking to it right out of the box, including fried eggs. Although the lid doesn't sit perfectly square on the oven, it's not so far off that it causes any issues. The pot does come pre-seasoned. There were a few spots on the lid and inside the oven that could have been better, but again it was in line with the price point. Cook in it a few times, wipe it down with lard and it's a non-issue. There are a LOT of cast iron DO's out there, but since this is primarily going to be used when we go camping in our Boler, I wanted one that could be placed on the fire, over coals, and had a flat skillet lid that could do the same. The feet on the oven and lid allow you to put coals under either one if you choose to go that way. The lip on the lid allows you to place coals on the top and not have them slide off. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that the lid and the oven both fit onto my Coleman propane camp stove without hitting the burner. This allowed me to ease into DO cooking since I've never used one for longer sessions like making a stew at camp. I made camp nachos on our first night out camping. I had tried charcoal for a heat source, but didn't have enough to effectively heat the oven. Part way through I placed it on the grate of our campfire and we were eating shortly after. I lined the DO with parchment paper so cleanup was a breeze. Cast iron is unparalleled in it's ability to sear and brown meat. I used the Camp Chef to make beef bourguignon on our second night of camping. The nights are getting a bit cooler, so having a hot meal is a very welcomed addition. The pot was large enough to feed 4 adults and 3 children. Only a small serving was left over. This is where the propane stove really simplified the process because I didn't have to constantly monitor the heat and add coals over the course of an hour. I also used the oven to make two loaves of bread over charcoal at home. The first one was a little burned because I put too many coals on the top and bottom. I reduced the amount of coals and the second loaf was spot on. You do get a lid lifter with the pot. It does what it's supposed to do, but I did find that the lid tilts a little bit when you pick it up. This caused a bit of ash to fall into the dish the first time I used it. I find that I have to use a stick to push on one side of the lid while picking it up with the lifter in order to keep it level. This is not a problem if you aren't using coals on the lid. There is a slot for a meat thermometer in the pot should you be doing a roast etc. I have also picked up a stand to hang the pot over a fire, but I haven't used it yet so I can't comment on that. I would buy again, but I can't see any reason why this pot would fail me over the course of my life.

great for hunting camp
I used it on my last hunting trip and it worked great for making breakfast , bread and dinner .Used it with hard wood coals as well as on top of the wood stove. Will be using it on every hunting trip from now on. Good to know there is always fresh bread on camp

Best I've tried
I've used some posh cast iron, and I prefer this one. Smooth handle allows easy tying to a tripod (coiled handles are no good in my world). Use it a lot, and it will season up perfectly. We've baked bread, stews, deep fried, you name it. Oh - and the lid is a workable pan. Pack in one unit, and you have a pot and a pan. That's really important.
