I use this as a soil amendment in place of orchid bark for my indoor plants. The bark is in various sized pieces, and definitely not tiny ¼" particles that I was hoping for, but that was a risk I knew was a possibility, and I'm ok with that. My one complaint is with packaging. The bark poked numerous holes into it's bag, so a lot of dirt or bark particles are all over in the shipping bag. I ended up having to leave it in the shipping bag in order to avoid the mess spreading to whatever surface it is placed on. They really should either box it, or at the very least use a padded bag. I would still purchase it again, but I'm planning to buy a container just for storing it since I don't want the mess

Loaded with mites!
I bought this fir bark to add to my soil mix for my very expensive hoya plants. At 1st I really liked it, the chunks were a good size for what I needed it for and it was very affordable. A week after I mixed this stuff into my soil mix and repotted my hoya plants I noticed thousands of mites everywhere! They were in the soil and crawling on all of my plants. I cant even begin to tell you how upset I was, anyone that is a serious collector of hoyas will understand because they know how much some of these plants cost. I cant imagine that mites are good for reptiles either so I definitely would not recommend using this stuff for plants or reptiles. If you are going to go ahead and purchase this product anyway, cuz really the price is great, I would recommend soaking the bark in water and then baking it in the oven on 225-250 for 45 minutes or so before using it.

Berry nice for moisture control
I absolutely LOVE this! I have a tortoise and have been using this for about a year and a half and it is absolutely wonderful for moisture control. He loves the texture of, but he also loves burrowing so my recommendation is to put more bark towards the top and have it be more dirt towards the bottom.

Bought this to repot my orchid mainly because the price difference between this and actual orchid bark was mad. It's doing a good job so far!

Good size and clean bark
I use it as an add-on to aroid soil and have seen a positive turnaround with some of my pickier indoor plants. It is also a very good top dressing that helps keep fungus gnats at bay and prevents some water-loving plants from drying out too quickly. This is much more economical than the bark that you can find at garden centers and plant stores as well. The pieces are about 1.5 cm to 2cm size, my batch was clean, without any dust or bigger sticks.

Works great for my tortoise
I use this repti-bark for my baby Hermann’s tortoise enclosure. The size is perfect, it’s affordable, looks awesome, smells nice and it’s not messy. I actually use about 4 inches of peat moss on the bottom and then a couple inches of this bark layered on top. There’s the odd longer stick in there that I’ll pull out, but this is a great product. My tortoise was 3 months old and weighed only 24 ounces when I started using this and he had no problem getting around or burrowing down into it. I keep the humidity fairly high and spray down his enclosure twice a day with warm water and have never had a problem with mould. This is the first kind of reptile bark product I tried and there’s no reason for me to try anything else. I highly recommend it.

Wood slivers in my hands!
The price of the bag as an add on, the aesthetic of the red cedar and the moister retention makes this seem like a good choice for bedding and it is.....except for the 60 slivers and counting that I got from using this product. Shaking it into my snakes enclosure I ran my hand over it to spread it around and got at least ten slivers in my palm and fingers, it was jarring and unpleasant. Even after setting up the tank, when I try to get the water bowl out or pick up my snake I end up getting slivers in my knuckles or fingers. This is a problem :( I won't be buying again because of that but if the problem was fixed I'd be willing to come back because it is a good bedding otherwise.
