This thing REALLY works!
This thing really pulls up the crabgrass with ease. I used it the first time and just couldn't stop pulling up more and more crabgrass. It seemed it became some kind of contest. It was very satisfying to get those nasty things up out of the yard and gone. I don't like spraying them and having a bunch of dead clumps in the yard so this thing is awesome! Very sturdy.

Great but not perfect
It's hard to fault this tool when you take into account what it is being used for. This tool makes it very easy to pull CERTAIN types of weeds from your lawn. The best weeds to pull, I imagine, would be those similar to dandelions. The thicker the root the better. I've pulled out intact roots in excess of seven inches long. It's light and easy to use. It does take a little practice though. If you don't get the claw centered over the root you may end up pulling chunks of healthy grass. The only time this tool ever becomes a hassle is not due to the tool at all. It's due to the random nature of weeds and roots themselves. At times I've found that some dandelion roots will actually go sideways through my lawn rather than straight down or even at any decent angle. When grabbing weeds with these types of roots I found myself snapping the weed off very close to the surface. This was usually followed by me getting on the ground and digging out, by hand, as much of the root as possible. This is NOT a fault of the tool though. You won't be pulling the entire root out most of the time. Most of the time, however, you will be pulling out enough that what is left in the ground will eventually die. Roots far enough underground will die. This isn't a replacement for chemical based weed control. It is an extra tool to add to your arsenal. I think the only REAL downside of this tool is the length. If it were a little longer it'd be the perfect length. I'm 5'10" and I find myself sometimes bending over slightly when using this tool. If it were a little longer I, and probably most people, could get away without having to bend over at all. Over all this thing is great for pulling weeds with tap roots. It just works, period.

Not for dandelions with long roots
Unfortunately I have well established dandelions. The blades on this did not go deep enough to get all the root out. And if you don’t get the dandelion roots out they will be back soon! Also I had to bend down to carefully be sure I centered on the weed, so it defeated the purpose of a stand up Weeder. I really need a goid stand up Weeder. This isn’t it.

Effective for Long Roots and Easy on the Back
This weeder has been more useful than expected. The only place I have found where it won't work is in rocky areas. I makes sense that the claws can't grip if they try to close down on a rock. We have a few acres of land, so there are going to be plenty of weeds. I don't like using herbicides on the pastures even though the manufacturers say they are safe. I keep this weeder where I can easily grab it and take it out with me when going out and about. I have been surprised by the size of some roots this has been able to pull up. I find the center of the plant where the main root is located and put the claws around it before stepping on the foot. I then pry the root out using the leverage from the long handle and the foot. When the weed comes up, I slide the collar down to open the claws and eject the weed and it is ready for the next weed. Sometimes I miss and need to repeat. Sometimes the root breaks, but most come up. For our soil type, this works best when the ground has been watered recently. Before getting this Fiskars weeder, I used to take a shovel, loosen the soil and then pull. It was a lot more work . I like this better. I've taken out dandelions with foot-long main roots and mallow almost as big. It's nice not having to bend over and pull. The tool is light enough that it is easy to carry around, but I have never felt like it would bend or break. It seems really tough. I'm on my third season of using it.

Great for crabgrass!
This 3 claw will hold up better than the 4 claw because of the reinforced metal assembly at the bottom where the 4 claws tend to break (see pics for difference). I've already broke two of the 4 claw versions. However this model isn't as user friendly as the 4 claw model. It's not a huge deal, but with the 4 it was as easy as..,place the claws around center of weed (mostly crabgrass for me), step on foot pedal thing, push handle towards ground, pull root and weed out, and eject it. Then you repeat. With the 3 claw, there is a hangup between the ejection of the weed and repeat...the claws tend to stick together at the end. In order to separate them, you have to give the foot pedal a tap. Doesn't seem like a huge deal, but it gets on my nerves. This never happened with the four, but it breaks, at least on crabgrass. Crabgrass is not a light weight weed though, so if it's your issue, grab this one. The 3 claw will last longer. If it's a weak weed, grab the 4, and just be kinda gentle. They both work really well though...if you use them wisely.

Fun tool
I looked everywhere for one of these. I saw videos of them on Youtube and I had to have one. Every single store in our area was sold out of them. The only way to get one was through Amazon. It is a fun gadget. I don't allow my husband to use it because he is accident prone and I don't want it broken, or him to do something to hurt himself. As far as weeds, yes, it pulls them. Does it pull everything? No. We have horrible nut sedge grass right now, after so much flooding, and I don't think dynamite could get rid of that nightmare of a weed. But this tool will loosen it up so that I can get it out easier. It has grown up under my fruit trees and if I don't get it out, the trees die. I lost about 14 trees this year from nut sedge and flooding. This tool can reach up really close, and go between the roots and loosen up the clump so I can reach in with the skinny weed tool and be more delicate with the tree roots. It helps me out where it would not be a good idea to use a shovel

Its meant mainly for loose top soil, like what you may have below a lawn in a front or back yard. I bought it for my farm which has sandy loamy soil and compacted soil, it does not work for that type of heavy duty weeding. But the tool is great for what it is intended, i.e. removing weeds without bending, as along as the soil condition is as above.

Looks sturdier than the older previous model
Looks sturdier than the older previous model I had. Does the job. One does need to pay attention to get the weed just right

Fiskars don’t make a sound when they start up
Pulls weeds, mostly plastic but does the job well, expect to replace in 3-5 years like the last one
