Great product horrible directions
The breakout tabs are the wider portions between the thicker sections. Not clear from the directions but these pop out easily once you realize it.

I don't like that this takes up so much space at the bottom of the tank. That plus the however many pounds of gravel on top means there are 4.5 gallons filling my 5.5 gallon tank up all the way to the top. Less swimming space for the fish, and less water in general. That being said, my plants are all doing marvelously. I assume it's because the warm water coming off the heater gets circulated through the substrate. Also, my water parameters continue to look good. I love that the water flow doesn't toss the fish around like a waterfall filter does, even small ones (I have a betta and for him the struggle is very real). It also makes more sense logically to have the dissolved ammonia and nitrite pass over the surfaces where the nitrobacteria live. My dad has had a custom vertical 20 gallon tank with a built in permanent undergravel filter and 4" of gravel for at least 35 years. His neon tetras and albino catfish (that's all he's ever stocked it with) live for about 10 years, and he changes the water maybe once a month. I realize that it's only one sample, but I've never seen a waterfall filter with that kind of life expectancy. I originally bought this for my Tetra 3 gallon Cube aquarium. The product comes in two halves and one half fits perfectly into the bottom of the Cube. It also fits perfectly (with enough room so gravel hides it from view on the front and sides) into an Aqueon 5.5 gallon tank. I bought this with a Tetra Whisper 10 air pump. Works great, but you'll need a gang valve to make the airflow even between the two water uptake pipes. I bought the Jardin Fishing Two Way Air Pump Manifold on Amazon. It fits the tubing that comes with the pump and the tubing you can buy at Petco.

Better than expected
This product was difficult to find when searching for the exact size. Some retailers listed this filter size as advertised then when you read the product description it wasn't the correct size. I am amazed at the quality of this filter. I didn't expect too much due to it's low price but I will always order from this retailer when they have the products I seek. Fast efficient ordering and shipping was quick. If you are looking for a filter of this dimension, buy this one! Yon won't be disappointed.

Two-Plate under gravel filter
The two-plate under gravel filter fit without problems in a 5.5gal tank. Unable to connect the two plates with the provided rubber connectors but the plates don't move in the tank especially with the gravel on top. Otherwise easy to assemble.

a must have to help keep smaller fish tanks clean however it was not as adjustable as i thought and could only use one half of the whole product as my daughters fish tank has a slight curve to it

This filter works well as extra filtration. It looks great in the tank. I think it adds to the tanks decor.
