Great filters

I use these filters all the time for the drinking water in my home. Says 6 months change but I do it at 3 and I see how much dirt and nasty stuff it filters out from nyc tap water.

Excellent but pricey

Update: 1-6-15 I have this piped to a dedicated faucet on my sink for drinking and cooking pasta and the like so it lasts a long time. I change it every six months regardless to avoid bacteria build-up. When I got to this page, I saw this old review of mine. The price seemed high and after reading reviews from the rest of you guys, I went to my email where I save all of my Amazon receipts and discovered that in May of 2013 I paid 15 dollars for this same filter. Purchased two and got free shipping to boot. I found a comparable .5 micron filter on Amazon and I'll be purchasing these instead at 13.14 each. I'm sure the taste will be excellent. You can't beat this filter for the money. My water tastes great. It removed the chlorine taste and smell. Our water is safe to drink in my town so I don't need super micro filtration for organisms, lead or other contaminants. But the back of the label states this unit filters down to .5 microns which is as good as many high-priced filters out there(not 5 microns like most cheapo filters). This filter does the trick and the volume is good too. It doesn't restrict water flow hardly at all. People who buy spring water or filtered water at the store are spending hundreds of dollars a year when all they need is a filter like this one. I could put this water into a Poland Spring bottle and no one would be the wiser. My "spring" water costs a couple of cents per gallon. I have it piped into my fridge as well for my ice maker. Write the expiration date on the label and tape it to your filter housing. Replace at 6 months or earlier depending on flow.

Great product the Easiest I’ve ever installed!!

This product is wonderful I’ve been waiting for my husband for months to change the water filter and I was like ya know what screw it iam going to get under the sink and see what I could do so I looked at it got the brand name and the number of the product I went on amazon and typed it in and bam there it was the filter I needed I ordered it and the price was crazy great!!! So I get the filter in a day later and that I was ???? it, so I get under the sink I’am like I can do this well at first I forgot to turn off the water and got drenched but the GREAT NEWS was that the filter was the easiest thing ever to instal I couldn’t even believe it Myself really cause nothing ever goes smooth for me ...! So ladies and gentleman that are not the handy man this filter is sooo easy to instal seriously!!!! And thank you again Amazon for making my life these days that much easier !!!!

Very good Filter

This filters out the most contamination from the water. Actual GE brand is why it costs a little bit more, but you get what you pay for. Cheap is just that... Cheap! Fits the std. size housing like the others.

Good product, but no GE Appliances support

For several years, I have been ordering my GE water filters from Amazon without any issues. I keep filters in inventory so that I can quickly replace the filter every 6 months. When I removed the cellophane from my last replacement filter, I found that the end-cap was broken (see photo). This breakage wasn't visible when the cellophane was holding the broken cap in place. I called GE Appliances at the support number linked on the Amazon website, and GE Appliances said that they can't offer damage/defect replacement for filters ordered through Amazon.

I like this filter. Water tastes great after using this filter. I wish the filter had a lower pressure drop so that the flow of filtered water could be increased.

I bought the filter to remove chlorine taste from city water, which it does very well. However, it leaves the water a little tasteless. Not as much as reverse osmosis water, but more than I'd like. I'm going to try the FXUTC and FXULC next for comparison.
