Only reason for 4*…
I would have 5 stars if they were just a little less flimsy. Work fine, have bottled a slew of wine out of these so far…clean easy, no worries about busted glass. If you have the space and money, glass is great, but for the rest of us, these will do

Light weight and work just fine
As a home wine maker, I have always used the glass which is super heavy without the wine. I was a little leery about using plastic but needed and additional carboy and it worked perfectly. It did have a larger top opening so had to purchase larger bung. It does dent easly when not full. Good value for the cost.

Airlocks shown as possible additional purchases are wrong size
The carboy itself appears to be fine. However, I ordered airlocks that were shown as an additional purchase for this carboy, and they are much too small. You need a #10 size airlock for this carboy. Fortunately, Amazon came through and refunded my money for the airlocks, even though they show as non-returnable.

Nice.
Like most people, I have a bit of an aversion to plastic. I bought several of these with the intention of using them only to transport grape juice, but they are so darn easy to work with that I ended up using some of them for fermentation too. They are very lightweight. They can be crumpled or deformed if you treat them harshly, but if you're reasonably careful they will be more than strong enough to transport or hold whatever liquid you put in them. My only word of caution is regarding the width of the mouth and the right size stopper. The ones Amazon suggests to go with these do NOT fit. They are too small. You'll want #10 stoppers. I ordered the "Drilled Rubber Stopper #10 Set of 3" from Home Brew Ohio and they fit perfectly. One other thing to note is that because the plastic sides bend and deform, you will not be able to use any type of vacuum pump with these. I tried using a vacuum pump to degas CO2 and didn't get very far. The side walls began to squeeze inward and I almost sucked wine into the pump.

Weight factor sold me
I like these as they are so much lighter than glass carboys, which is why I bought them. Glass may last longer, but I don't have to worry about breaking these as I clean them or handle them.

I prefer these to the competition
I have several of these now and also have a number of Better Bottles and Bubbler carboys. I prefer these to the other 2 brands in the 5 and 6 gallon size because of the smooth sides. While the others catch sediment when using them as a secondary these don't because of the smooth sides. In addition to not catching sediment it is also easier to use a plastic siphon hose in these because the lip on the other sometimes catch the plastic hose when inserting it to the bottom and with these you don't have that problem. They are equally as strong as the others. I will order more.

Economical and works great!
I have four of the Vintage carboys now - three 6-gallon and one 5-gallon. Besides the price what I like best about these PET carboys is how light weight they are. However, since they are soft-sided I had to invest in a carry strap to make it easier to move the carboys out of the kitchen when they are full of must. The only drawback I've encountered starting my must in a carboy is that it's difficult to stir because of the small opening. So for starting my must I use a 6.5 gallon bucket and then siphon directly into the carboy. A little extra work but sealing a carboy is much simpler than sealing a bucket.

Slightly misleading
This product is advertised as a 6 gal carboy, but the 5 gallon size was sent. It does not include cork or stopper, but this is minor. It is lightweight and solid, but it loses stars for the error in size and poor communication from customer service.
