Classic and strong
My dad had one of these and I saw one in a hardware store a couple of years ago at twice the price. Saw this one and took a chance. It is strong and does all I remember my dad’s doing. Less destructive than nail bars and the jaws get a solid hold on the nail heads. The slap hammer makes it easy to get the tail started.

Good piece of kit but has limitations
I used this for removing staples from 4 inch round fence posts. It was very good especially when extended. It was quite difficult to use when staple wasn’t nailed in the correct angle preventing leverage. Well made and the jaws held up well. Delivery was excellent.

Great product
But I returned it because it doesn’t work on T111 or anything hard. I would say this is strictly to be used on Pine.

works great
I'm replacing ring shank nails (which are impossible to get out) on my shed roof with screws and this nail puller is the only tool that can make that happen. It works great. It is a lot of work but, it makes it cheaper than replacing the whole roof with new metal or tearing it all up with a flat bar and claw hammer. I wouldn't have believed it unless I got to see it in action first, so I took a chance with this nail puller and I'm glad I did. I used a flat bar for leverage to put on the roof, claws up and it kept from damaging the roof as I pulled the ring shank nails out.

A specialized tool for special circumstances.
Do not buy this to pull nails from pallets. The spiral nails hold too tight and this tool cuts or breaks off the heads of the nails. Otherwise this tool is a good concept - the harder you pull, the tighter it grips the nail. This should work fine for removing common nails, even large ones. The handle is longer than a claw hammer, providing more leverage. The surfaces that grip the nail are narrow, so you have to take care in placing it on the nail, and it can slip off the nail if it's not centered in the grips. As a result, a claw hammer would be much faster if you need to pull a lot of nails. The surfaces that grip the nails are pointed so they can be driven into the wood to get nails that are not protruding above the wood. This is accomplished with a sleeve on the handle that can slide up and down, providing impact. The tool is made of cast iron or cast steel and the tolerances are loose, especially with the sliding sleeve. This does not inspire a lot of confidence, but once the nail is engaged and you are pulling, it feels solid. Overall, I would try a claw hammer first. If that fails, then this tool may succeed.

This is a nail puller.
Now this is old school. If you are doing real renovation work, or deconstructing a well made structure, this is the tool that's been around for a century. This one is made in Taiwan, but what the heck? It works.

Takes some getting used to.
If you're like me, you might be thinking this is exactly the tool I've been looking for. In some ways it and in some ways it definitely isn't. I recycle old pallets for wood projects. The worst of that process is removing nails. When I saw this product, I thought my dreams had come true. Not so much! You must have at least 1/4 inch of nail to get ahold of. Then when you use the tool as described, it simply pinches off the top of the nail leaving you with nothing to grab onto. You have the option of driving the device down into the wood which works remarkably well. But then you pinch off the top of the nail below the surface. The litany of curse words you will use will both Alarm anyone around you and also cause an overwhelming desire to throw the tool into the trash. I developed a work around that has restored my love for this tool. First, grind off a small portion of the teeth to create a flatter work surface. Next, use a drill to drill a small hole up against the nail to be removed. This gives the nail room to move. Lastly, use the tool as described and nail comes out smoothly. This works for me but may not for you. Slight design flaws in the tool do not render it useless. You just have to find the best way to make it work. Good luck.

Best solution for tricky nails
Brilliant piece of kit which I used to extract about 500 ancient floorboard nails. I thought these pullers were a thing of the past so I was delighted to find this. Rather pricy and not the best piece of casting I've seen but the jaws seem incredibly tough and the whole thing is well up to a tough job. Essential if you have a lot of nails - or a few tricky ones - to extract. Far better than just bashing them flat.

Brilliant for removing clout nails from plasterboard panels prior to removal of panel.
Well built, heavy tool with longevity in mind. Care should be taken in use, as no guard down the percussion end could cause serious injury to hand between thumb and forefinger ! Brilliant for removing clout nails from plasterboard panels prior to removal of panel.

Glad that they still make this tool (not available at Home Depot)
I purchased a similar product in 1969 as part of the carpentry apprenticeship list of tools that was necessary in the trade at that time. I had the nail puller in my possession until a couple of years ago and now am unable to locate it so saw this one on Amazon and made the purchase. Since I have been using this type of nail puller for over 50 years it was not something that I need to be familiar with in order to use it. When I first used this tool some 50 years ago, it did provide some injury to the left hand if you didn't keep your hand away from the base of the slide hammer but after a few mishaps you get use to what not to do. This particular tool that I purchased from Amazon is excellent to use and leaves a very small blemish on the wood when care is taken on fitting the jaws of the puller around the head of the nail being pulled. The current use of this tool is to remove nails from exterior cedar siding in order to install replacement windows in a residence where the siding is being reused once the new windows are installed. Works great.

One of the best nail pullers ever made
Arrived on time but packaging was broken open. Used one of these nail pullers when I was 18 years old, now in my 60's and using them again. Quality has not changed in 40 plus years and are just as solid now as they were then. Best nail puller I have ever used and without causing too much damage to the surrounding wood. They pull nails of any size, shape and even without heads. I have a deck to repair this spring and have to pull a lot of nails, but with the price of lumber right now, I have to save as many 2 X 6 X 8 boards as I can and this definitely will do the job with no issues. Well worth the money spent and would definitely recommend to anyone.

This Should Be the First Tool you Buy!
This is a game changer when it comes to removing nails during renovation! Almost effortless nail removal in softwoods and not much effort in hardwoods. Wish I had bought it 30 years ago.
