Leaf mulch review
Last fall I mulched my beds with mostly leaf mulch so I’m offering a bit of an alternative review. I sprayed multiple beds and since some of my plants were starting to emerge, I ended up with lots of overspray. I followed with immediately spraying my plants with my hose to wash off any overspray and it seems to have worked really well. The dye still stayed in the beds. It’s definitely messy and stains, so just be careful. I did cover some foliage with pots, but found it easier to just spray after.

I was shocked it works! Kinda a pain to do but it works!
For the past 10 years I spend the whole month of May pretty much in the yard. I order 15 yards of mulch. Cart it around the yard and spread it to about an inch thick. The downside to this process is that after a few years you have to scoop up some of the "spent" stuff that looks bad before applying the new stuff. I wanted to speed that process up a bit and since I had a good amount of mulch down already it was just a matter of raking any leaves and debris away, mixing up the stuff that was stuck together and re spreading it out to look good. Mixing this stuff up is pretty simple 4oz. to a gallon of water, shake well and your ready to go. My spreader does not have a very long wand so spraying meant bending over. That took its toll on my old back pretty quick and since its a slow process of sweeping the wand back and fourth to get proper coverage i felt it was best to kneel and spray that way. Coverage seems pretty good I actually got pretty far (half the front yard) on my first gallon so I'm figuring that the whole yard will only take up about 16oz (the container is 32oz). Color is a nice deep brown, I would actually call it a VERY dark brown. So far so good I will update the review if something goes wrong or when I get around to touching it back up. If you have a question or comment just post it. I usually respond within 24 hours. I took 1 star off for a couple of reasons, I felt the smell of the product was kinda nasty, its really thick, almost like a tar.and while cleanup is with water its kinda a pain in the butt. *** UPDATE It is possible to cover very large areas quickly by adjusting your nozzle to "super soak" the area. Results are very good when you do this as long as you do not have to do any edging (near bricks or walkways). HOWEVER the amount of spray you go through is ASTOUNDING! When I took my time and sprayed slowly i wasted much less material but it took me 4 times as long to do it. So shoot it down fast and thick and your done in 5 minutes. Or take your time save some $$$ but takes 30 minutes to do. Lastly I did have some of the mix )gum) up my sprayer so I'd recommend cleaning it after you use it before the stuff solidifies.

Easy to use!
The media could not be loaded. Makes a huge difference for hardly any money. I did two flower beds with 3oz per gallon of water. I will update to see if it fades or washes away. I am expecting rain in 3 rains.

I’ve got quite a bit of mulch around my house and generally think it’s a lot of work to maintain all of it. I put down quite a bit of mulch last spring and since then, almost all of the color has sun bleached out, but the mulch is still in good shape. I had read somewhere about mulch dye and thought this could help get me though another year without buying new mulch. I originally had a medium brown color so i was looking for dye to match. I picked this Cocoa Brown color to try to spruce up my mulch. Then comes the issues. The first shipment was damaged before it got to me so Amazon stopped the deliver and cancelled my order. Not this products fault, but could have been because of the packaging. Then I ordered another and the instructions say 3-4 ounces per gallon of water. Some kind of measuring device would have been pretty handy. The color was much, much darker than the brown I was expecting. My 3 year old son kept calling it black because it is so dark. I added 3 drops of baby shampoo to each batch because it will act as a surfactant and help the much absorb the dye better. The problem with such a dark dye on such light mulch is I had to be very thorough, which meant I put on a bit more than I anticipated to get even coverage. Ultimately this bottle did not cover 2400 sq feet of much, probably closer to about 1400 sq ft. The dye did its job and will extend the life of my mulch. It did not cover what it says it should. No measuring device. Much darker than expected. If you have 1,000 sq ft or less and need a dark dye, this could definitely work for you.

A little darker than expected, but good!
Buying mulch every six months is expensive, never mind exhausting to spread. I thought I was a genius in thinking about “inventing” mulch spray, but a quick google search taught me I was behind the 8 ball. Anyways, directions were simple. I used a week spray pump and powered through the front yard in about 30 minutes. It does stain the concrete, so you’ll want to be mindful. When I was done I felt like a forest fire charred my front yard due to the color, but once I churned them mulch and brought some of the underlying color up too it looked good. If I purchased again (which I won’t need to because it’s a concentrate) I would buy a lighter color.

This stuff is incredible
I cant believe how this stuff brought life back to my dull sun faded mulch.
