Simple to use, easy to read
The large display is easy to see, and the non-programmable thermostat is easy to use. I bought a house with a programmable one that liked to crank the heat up to 84 degrees when it thought I looked chilly. I only had to hook up three wires and now I have a thermostat that does what I tell it to. Hooray!

Very Basic, Works Fine, Easy to Read
We just had 2 installed in our home, one for a gas HVAC unit and one for an electric HVAC unit. We replaced two existing thermostats, one old and one new, because they were so darned hard to read! Too dark, especially at night. Had to keep flashlights handy just to read the screens, which were both way too small. These Emersons have large screens that light up briefly when you adjust the temp, but you can also light them up (briefly) via a button at the very top of the unit. You can also keep them lit if you have a certain wire configuration, which I'm not sure we have, but it is an option on the installer menu (need to read the user guide to learn how to access that menu; it's pretty simple). I don't think we would want them lit all the time since the screens are so big and the backlight is so bright. We had a plumber who was onsite to change a faucet install both thermostats. I watched him do it and am glad I didn't try it myself. It took him less than 15 minutes to do each one. I did point out to him, as I was reading the user guide to myself while he installed, that there was a separate setting for gas or electric. Since we had one of each, he made sure he set it correctly, so I'm glad I looked at the instructions. It has occurred to us that, with these new thermostats, we are having to adjust the temp less often. Seems like we were always getting up from whatever we were doing and adjusting the heat or air up or down. It was a way of life, so now that we don't have to do that, we realize the thermostat is regulating the temp and not just a mechanism to turn it on and off. Duh! I would recommend this thermostat if you want a very basic, adjust up or down, select heat or air, be able to read the screen in any type of light unit. No wi-fi or app or voice guide or remote access, just basic manual control.

Decent thermostat.
The media could not be loaded. I’ve bought a few of these. And they keep coming in unpadded bags. And they are coming out of their boxes inside of the bag. Aren’t we aware that these are electronic devices?

Simple, clean, user-friendly design
Sometimes technology gets in the way. I was looking to replace an old, unreadable and difficult to program thermostat with a Nest or other learning thermostat. Then I asked myself: why spend an inordinate amount of money on a device that is dependent on WiFi or the internet in order to function? All that additional complexity (and more points of failure) so that I can save the five seconds a day it takes to set a thermostat when I leave home, come home, or go to bed? And what happens when, inevitably, internet or WiFi connections go down? No thanks. This thermostat keeps it as simple as possible. It has a clean minimalist design which is enhanced by the optional back-plate (buy it; it looks much nicer with it). Update: I've had it for about six months now and it has been working perfectly. It's a beautifully designed, simple device that you don't have to think about; it just works. And that's what appropriate technology is all about.

beats all others hands down
easy to install instructions were easy to understand , All I had to change was the switch from gas to electric system. I like that the display is large and easy to read , nice large buttons , easy to adjust temps . seems accurate , heat shuts off just 1 deg above set temp, and never drops below set temp, ac temps are dead on, What I really like is the battery meter as You can see in the pick . no more guessing battery state good back lighting . wiring was a snap and this one does have the blue common wire To date I have been thru 3 thermostats, one a white rodgers that was getting just old and the buttons were wore out, went thru a couple of honey wells that worked for a year then just failed . I highly recomend this if you want a basic thermostat for a 1 heat and 1 cool system a LUX tstat that just had too much temp swing.

Works great, terminal block is awful
As others have pointed out the thermostat works great however it has a cheap terminal block which makes the install challenging. Wire needs to be dead center or it can be pulled out. The menu button location is not an issue because it has to be held down for 8 seconds to get into the program menu. However if the menu button is pushed momentarily followed by an arrow it will toggle between fahrenheit and celsius. I just had my mom accidently changed it to celsius and called panicking that it was 20 degrees in the house...

Seems to work properly, but...
Bought this to replace an intermittently failing unit. Selected this primarily for its size as best covering the hole in the wallpaper left when the old one was removed. NOTE: the overall size of the unit is 6" wide, but the backplate that attaches to the wall is more like 5.5" (or a little smaller). Also, the instructions say that, for a non-heatpump installation, leave the jumper between RC and RH. This is necessary to provide power from the red wire to both the heating and cooling circuits. My unit did not come with that jumper, so I had to create one. That was no problem as I had suitable wire and tools to create one. Also, to install the wires, a small jeweler's screwdriver is required to tighten the lugs to complete the connections to the block. Again I had the right tool. The supplied manual has no detailed instructions for installation. I was fortunate to have done a couple installations before and had the tools and materials from electronics work I've done and with a little research on the Internet, did the installation rather easily. This may not be the case for every customer who buys this unit.

Easy to read
I like it. It’s easy to read and nothing fancy. My other one was set on Celsius but I’m finding that I like the Fahrenheit better. You can change it if you want to.
