Beautiful but doesn't clean well.

It's very pretty if one can say that for a slow cooker. It is a little longer than I would like but it cooks well. The biggest issues I have is that the lid doesn't lay flat on the inner lip. It gapes open in the front because of it. I just make a little foil shim and that takes care of it. I hate cleaning it though. I've owned 4 slow cookers before this one that usually cleaned up easily. This one does not. I can't just soak it and throw it in the dishwasher as I have in the past. There is always residue at the bottom and on the sides so I have to soak and scrub. It wasn't worth the trouble to return it but I'll probably replace it well before it dies.

Extra Large Slow Cooker

I'm very happy with this purchase. The slow cooker is 8.5 quarts, quite a bit larger than the 7 qt I used to use. I use it to prepare chilis and stews for the week. I can make a big batch and freeze portions for individual meals that can be heated up later. The Elite Gourmet Jumbo model works great and heats as expected. A bonus is the bright, cheerful red color that brightens up the kitchen.

Happy With My Slow Cooker & Amazon

I originally ordered a renewed model of this slow cooker. It arrived in good condition physically, however would not turn on. I called Amazon & they went out of their way to make things right. UPS picked it up the next day from my home & I went ahead and ordered a new one that day. I love it! I made a pot roast with veggies, cooked on low & it came out perfectly cooked. Yum! Yes, it does cook a tad faster than the old school slow cookers. Minor adjustments in your recipes & you should not have a problem. Reasonably priced & great capacity.

Good Size for Larger Gatherings, Low Cooks Much Faster Than Original (Old School) Models

In recent years, I find myself utilizing the crock pot for two things: (1) making double batches of chili for my elderly mom so she has plenty to freeze; and (2) making a double batch of a dish for the annual family reunion. With the traditional six quart size too small to do this in a single run, I found this size and color (8.5 quart, red) very appealing and work the relatively small investment. It arrived in time for my annual trip to the Midwest and I received compliments on the color from my cousins. Where I ran afoul is the 8-12 hours on the low setting ... by the time eight hours has elapsed (first thing in the morning), all the liquid had evaporated. I remember it was boiling pretty steady just after a couple of hours but really didn't think anything of it. Once I got it to the reunion site, I added a little apple cider vinegar and more BBQ sauce when reheating in hopes of getting some moisture back. I still have a Rival Crock Pot (Model 3060) which also cooked things on low faster than expected so I did some additional research and it seems the FDA (some time ago) required slow cookers to increase their preset temperature settings as those for much older models were deemed unsafe. This would definitely explain why older recipes calling for 8-10 on low are way overcooked. I find myself needing to make more chili for my mom so I am going to give 'er a go, with the knowledge that I need to cut the time in half and check it. Recipe calls for 2-3 hours on high, or 4-6 on low; will go low and check at 2-3 hours. I'm still trying to find the exact preset temperature settings for this as well as my smaller one; starting to think it's a secret more sacred than the 1963 Zapruder film. EdNote: I've added an additional star to the review and four pictures from the double batch of chili following the initial review, a recipe that is my mom's favorite. The recipe itself can be found on momtimeout.com and calls for 2-3 hours on high (4-6 on low); the final picture is after three hours on low and definitely ready to enjoy. :-) Bottom line ... plan to make adjustments to cooking times depending on how old the recipe is; failing all else, keep an instant thermometer handy for checking internal meat/poultry temperature to get a feel for the cooking time/speed.

Not like grandmas! Temperature difference.

The settings on newer crock pots are different than old slow cookers or most recipes!!!! Pay attention!! Grandmas crock pot had lower settings, so low actually cooked low and slow for 8 hours. NOT anymore on any new crock pots!! They run hotter as the food industry thought that the lower settings were to low and could cause food born illness. So the standard is higher now. Google it. I found out the hard way after having to replace an old old one. I was burning everything!!! Unless its digital you wont have the same experience of an old slow cooker. It cooks faster and thats not always good depending on the recipe. *** Note, most recipes still use old slow cookwr settings!!!! They are not compatible with todays slow cooker!!!! This was a kind ller purchase as I can fit a fat whole xhicken in it and 4 wracks of ribs easily!! Beautiful red color! Typical new settings.
