Please see update .... (Fixed)THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR OWN PRODUCT.
<> For some reason (maybe my rant) they reached out and sent me the replacement part at no charge. Thank you very much. I touched on the quality of the engineering below, but it is actually amazing. It's a simple object, but every detail is top notch and an engineer's delight. I hope their customer service can keep up with the design team. BOTTOM LINE: I'd buy another one, it's so nice, but I'd also pray that I did not have to deal with "Customer Service" again. THEY DO NOT SUPPORT THEIR OWN PRODUCT. This is a nice little piece of engineering and the birds like it. HOWEVER, a little perch broke on one of my two Onyx feeders and when I tried to get a replacement part, which I'd be happy to buy, I had an UNACCEPTABLE response. First I filled out a form on their website and never heard back. Then I called during business hours and was pleasantly and politely told that I was on my own. I was told to find some vendor who would order the part for me. Really? I bought it here on Amazon, I thought from them. Personally I find it offensive when I buy an expensive, top-tier product and the company stiffs me.

Classic Birdfeeder - Updated
This is a replacement Droll Yankees feeder for medium size birds. In the picture you can see a couple of finches going at special finch seed. Better than my original (which a bear managed to destroy with some effort) in that it is easy to clean (the bottom unscrews) and the top pops open easily (spring loaded). One slight drawback is that it contains only 4 feeding stations and they are all in the bottom 2/3 of the feeder height.

Birds love it, so I ordered a second one!
Initially I worried about there being no perches on this feeder, because our local finches were accustomed to the three plastic tube feeders hanging in our yard, each of which had four to six perches. Within an hour, however, several of them figured out how to land on the screen of this feeder, and since that time it has been crowded with birds. They quickly got the hang of walking up and down the sides, and some of them prefer to eat in a head-down position, which I had heard about, but it still surprised me. I have noticed several positive features: (1) With my older perch feeders, the birds sometimes got into fights over getting a position on the perches, but with this feeder they don't squabble very much at all. (2) The seed dries quickly after it rains, and I have not detected any mold growing in this feeder like it does in tube feeders. (3) It holds almost twice the amount of seed compared to tube feeders, so I don't have to refill it as often. I am sold on this feeder, but there is one thing I want to warn you about that has to do with an accessory. With my first order I received a seed tray that I had not ordered, and as advertised it does catch seeds the birds dislodge or drop. Moreover, a few of my finches did eat seed that collected there. However, a pigeon also noticed it and began landing on the tray to eat the dropped seed. The heavy bird started the feeder swinging wildly and upset the finches, all of whom sat on nearby limbs or went elsewhere while the pigeon was feeding. I thus removed the tray, and I'm glad I did not order or pay extra for it. Still, I think it likely is a worthwhile accessory if you don't have pigeons around your place. By the way, ours still eat seed dropped on the ground underneath the feeder, but this does not disturb the feeding finches.

Great bird feeder, reliable, easy to refill, kids love it
Not much to say about this other than it's a great bird feeder. We have had it in our back yard, hung on a shephard's hook for a few months now. It's easy to refill (my young kids and I refill it ever few days) and the birds seem to love it. In our area, we have male and female cardinals quite a bit, and a variety of other birds as well. I've actually downloaded an app to identify birds called "The Cornell Lab Merlin" app. It's great...you can give some descriptions of the birds you see, it'll help you narrow them down, and then you can log which birds you've seen in the app, where, and when. I'm sure they use it for research of some kind, but for users it's a useful app and it wouldn't' be possible without a quality bird feeder drawing in the birds. It took several days, and some bird seed spread throughout the yard, to get the birds to come, but now that they're here, we have definite repeat customers. If you're in doubt of what kind of bird feeder to get, and this seems to be one you'd enjoy, buy it without a second thought. It's great. I got bird seed at Costco to fill it, which should last me several months.

UPDATE - be patient and birds will figure it out
Update: It took over a month but it seems the finches have finally figured this out and were flocking to my feeder beginning a few days ago so my advice to others is give it more time and hopefully they will come. I'm upgrading to 5 stars as I really do like the appearance and construction of the feeder and now that it is finally seeing good activity I am happy. Original review: I have had many Droll Yankee finch feeders over the years but this is the first one of this design I have tried and unfortunately like many other poor reviews seen here the birds have shown VERY little interest after a month and my yard is very busy with birds as I have another feeder just 8 feet away frequented by gold finches regularly (as well as titmice, nuthatches, chickadees, cardinals and woodpeckers). The holes appear to be too small to allow the thistle seed to be easily accessed. I haven't explored whether it's possible to find smaller seed but right now I feel I have wasted $45.

Much easier to clean than other feeders
Previously I've owned bird feeders that are a total fiddle to clean properly. The usual rule of thumb is that you need a socket set, crosshead screw driver and nimble fingers in order to remove the base for cleaning purposes, and even more fiddle to put it all back together again. Unfortunately the consequence of all that fiddle is that the feeders didn't get cleaned as often as they should. This feeder can be cleaned without any tools or any other fiddling. Just a single fourty five degree turn of the base with your fingers is all that's needed to remove it. The rest of the cleaning is easy. I'm happy, and the birds are happy too.

Great product
These are more robust than cheaper alternatives. They come with a lifetime guarantee, with free replacement - even if damage is due to other wildlife e.g. squirrels - but you will have to pay postage for the parts for that type of damage. I particularly like the ring pull version - it makes it so m much easier for cleaning. The ports look as though they will need a small Allan key to take them out, which is fine. The base comes away with a just twist. Ideal for cleaning. The additional 'saucer' stops the area under the feeder getting messy with bird seed - but does allow larger birds to feed from the lower ports.

Heavy duty, good value feeder
Sturdy, well constructed and heavy duty. I don't think there's any need for the tray that clips on underneath, this should do the job on its own. It seems as if anything could be said to be squirrel proof this might be it although of course there are no guarantees when dealing with the bushy-tailed chaps.

Awful - Up for entire summer, doesn't attract birds.
This feeder worked absolutely terribly and birds will not eat from it. Ignore the marketing, the design is terrible and any cheap plastic finch feeder will work better than this product. It was put up from May until end September. The feeder was put up at a bird feeder station that had frequent chickadee and house finches visiting daily to a previous non-specialised feeder, alongside a peanut feeder. Those birds stopped coming, and some of them didn't come back despite pleas from the manufacturer on similar dissatisfied reviews that sometimes this feeder takes more time. I had never bought a Droll Yankee feeder before, and I'm going to remember how much I paid for an expensive, clever looking piece of trash.
