Choose this model over the others, but make note of my suggestions
For ease of installation, I give this item 5 stars. Remove your standard toilet seat and bolts. Use the long bolts provided and sandwich this raiser between your own toilet seat and your toilet rim. *Note about this below! For ease of use, this model is superior - better than the rest because the size of the opening is ample, giving much better access for toileting, and it goes under a regular toilet seat, not on top of it, as many of these raisers do, so also, you can use your own toilet seat and close your toilet seat cover when not in use. *NOTE: Stability of this product is definitely an issue, but an easily remedied issue. Because the raiser is only secured to the toilet fixture using 2 long toilet seat bolts to replace your 2 regular toilet seat bolts, sandwiching the raiser between the toilet seat and the toilet rim, no matter how much you tighten the bolts, because they're at that farthest point at the back of the raiser and seat, both the raiser and the toilet seat will have a tendency to move from side to side at the front of the toilet. To remedy this, we applied a small length (2 or 3 inches) of 3M Dual-Lock Tape between the raiser and the toilet fixture's front rim to secure the raiser to the toilet rim. Now the raiser and toilet seat cannot move from side-to-side. The 3M Dual-Lock Tape is rather like Velcro, but instead of being cloth-like as Velcro is, 3M Dual-Lock is a two-part plastic locking tape with super-adhesive backing. It holds very firmly, but the two locked parts can be pulled apart for cleaning, and the tape itself, unlike Velcro, is non-porous plastic so it's easy to clean. This is installed in my friend's house, so I have never tried to clean her toilet using the seat-raiser, but I can't see any way to clean under the raiser or on the toilet rim without disassembling the whole thing, and that's where it will certainly need cleaning the most - under the raiser and on the toilet rim. This is a pretty fatal design flaw, in my opinion, but my friend needed something. I imagine something can be slipped between the raiser and the toilet rim to clean in between there, at least on a day-to-day basis, but I don't know what I'd use. Maybe a paint-stirring stick with a Clorox Disinfecting Wipe wrapped around the end, slipped between the raiser and toilet rim? Something like that could be tried. As for actually using the raiser, it serves its intended purpose very well. Once the front of the raiser is secured to the toilet fixture as I described with 3M Dual-Lock Tape, the seat is very secure and sturdy, the toilet seat is at a much more comfortable and accessible height, and the seat arms are very helpful. We tried the other toilet seat raiser that's available everywhere, and my friend couldn't use it because the opening wasn't large enough to give her the access she needed. My friend is very pleased to have this toilet seat raiser. It's not a "perfect" solution, but short of buying a higher toilet fixture, knowing what I know now, I wouldn't hesitate to choose this model again. I recommend it. Get some 3M Dual-Lock Tape, though. You'll need it!

good riser for disabilities
This product is great for people with hip or knee problems. The riser reduces the distance to lower or rise from the toilet reducing the stress on the hip and knees. The raised aspect is also great for tall people (like myself at 6'7" with a bad hip). I've had this for years now and it has held up very well. Now for the bad part. This riser is a bite to clean. Short of removing it every time, it does not raise up enough to clean between the riser and the toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Splash from waste and urine get between them at front and back mostly. The only way to clean it without disassembly is to floss it with a rag soak in cleaning solution., and that only cleans the front and sides. This one con doesn't outweigh the pros but when you have a hip or knee problem (and a wife with a sensitive nose) it is something to take into consideration when buying this product or one similar to this. The one I have is not damaged or unusable but I am replacing it just because of the cleaning consideration and the wife.

Better than all front lock type secure, but not perfect
This riser is about my 6th unit purchased for my Mother. The first type I tried was the type that has the securing mechanism on the front of the bowl and I'll tell you now that those kind are probably the most dangerous in my opinion. On the front lock type I used industrial grade Velcro from HD store and cleaned the bowls porcelain real good and placed it on both sides of the rear of the riser, and on the front locking mechanism I used a thin type of rubber that didn't slip on porcelain and glued it over the existing to make a more non-slip locking surface. On this riser it is getting more in the ball park of what I would call a bit more secure by designing it so 6" bolts that are supplied go through the molded plastic and attach the rear of the riser to the toilet where the seat would be attached. However it still leaves the front now not all that secure from twisting left or right because there's nothing there to secure it, so my trusty Velcro again and it is much better. This unit comes with two bolts that might work on most conventional style seats that have the seat the has two plastic bolts that come with the seat to attach to the toilet, but if you have a seat that comes with a mounting hinge that has the bolts already screwed into the hinge, generally a higher quality toilet seat, then you'll have to remove unscrew the seats existing bolts and go down to HD and purchase two new bolts, two washers, and two wing nuts and don't forget the industrial grade Velcro. As a retired contractor and very mechanically this is not much of a problem to figure out, but for others it could be on the scale of 1-5 maybe a three?? I am willing to guess that most toilet seats that have an (attached bolting system) that the bolt size will be an 18 metric, what you can do is unscrew the bolt that is attached to your existing seat and take it with you to HD or local hardware store and usually they'll have a sizing plate where you can see exactly what size this bolt will screw into. So size it and then buy 6" long what ever size it is along with the same size washers (2) and two wing nuts and now your ready. I had to cut the heads off the bolts so I ended up with just a size 18 threaded rod, which you could just buy the threaded right sized rod and cut two lengths at 6", you have to be able to screw one end into the seat hinge and then run it through the molded plastic riser and then place on a washer then wing nut and tighten, but first take your industrial grade Velcro and attach a piece to the front plastic and porcelain. Now it will be a lot more secure from a left to right movement. How to cut the heads off the bolts, well you can use a hack saw or I used an electric cutoff tool and then a small file to clean up the cut edge so I could screw on a wing nut. Hope this helps. Be creative, for me when it comes to Mom's safety I stop at nothing and safety is number one. By the way, I had to edit this review because the person who's opinion counts the most is my Mom's and she really likes it. One thing I could see when I had her sit down and stand up a few times was where the arm supports were at which was at the first locking hole, there are two holes to lock the arms in place, in close or out a bit. With it out a bit Mom seemed to be able to push up and stand easier than if they were in close to her hips and having to basically push straight down to stand, I hope this is understandable, but the bottom line was she loves it and it looks like I'll be buying another one because she loves the idea of having her own toilet seat with a lid and not having to sit on molded plastic, on the other risers I did modify them to accommodate a seat and lid but that gets kind of extensive so this design takes a lot of the attaching a seat and lid creative thinking out of the equation, she thinks I am so brilliant .... LOL OK I'll go along with that, ha. It is a lot nicer and I wouldn't want to sit on molded plastic either, so if Mom's safe and happy I am thrilled and feel as if I am doing a good job of taking care of my Mother. I think in my profile and I might be making a mistake her, but I think there is a link to email me and if it means doing a install correct and your loved one being safe, well I guess you can email me with any questions, I guess I just care. Maybe there's no link and I'm not going to look so there. ghbaumathotmaildotcom, best wishes, Gary

Toilet seat riser.
The media could not be loaded. The product itself is great. The only problem is over time it starts to collapse due to the toilet seat bumpers. Is there any remedy to this? Maybe changing the form of the riser to accomendate the bumpers and the hinges so that the toilet seat sets flush. What I was thinking is to remove the bumpers off the underside of the toilet seat so it sets flush on the riser to keep it from collapsing.

I should have returned it.
Too high! My physical therapist ordered it for me. I didn’t know until after it was installed.

Works as intended.
Just installed this for my aging parents. They find it a huge help. Pros - Easy to install. Did it in approx 20 min. - extra-long bolts with wing nuts are supplied with the seat. Cons - potential problem: It's too early but I'm concerned that the bolts and nuts will corrode since they are made of galvanized steel and not plastic like normal toilet seat bolts. Particularly because I expect the seat will have to be periodically removed for effective cleaning. This remains to be seen. - I had previously installed a bidet attachment. Now the seat arm rests foul with the bidet control so I've had to install this seat minus the arm rests. Wish Drive Medical will manufacture a raised seat incorporating a bidet attachment one day.

This seat riser is good for a female but for a male sitting on it a another question, the thing is the penis is push against the rim so it kind of tricky to urinate will sitting on the seat riser.
