Good value for light use

This die stock worked well for the small machine screw threading I needed to do, die retaining screw threads are quite loose, was concerned they may strip out in use, but they held up fine. Maybe wouldn't do as well with heavy or steady use, but worked good for me.

Good Tool, but Wrong Photo

I like this 2" die stock and would buy it again. However, here's some things other shoppers might want to know if they are considering this purchase. First, the photo doesn't match the tool I received. In fact, I like the one they sent better than the one in the photo. I've attached 3 photos. There are 4 threaded holes (not 3), with 5/16-18 screws. Only one has a protruding knurled head, the others are flush set screws. All 4 are slotted for a flat screwdriver. The screw with the knurled head is pointed at the other end. All 3 set screws are rounded at the business end and the rounded tip seems to fit well into the 2" dies that I have. Unfortunately the holes are not tapped at right angles to the die body. I screwed a longer bolt into one hole and took a photo so you can see the hole is clearly at an angle. The angle is not consistent in the 4 holes, so I don't believe this has any design purpose, but rather, an indication of poor quality. Other than the angle of the holes it appears to be good quality tool. The overall length is 15.5 inches and the handles are about 9/16" diameter.

Nice quality die stock for the money

Construction is as follows: The center portion is a non-ferrous cast metal and the handles are chrome plated steel with a nice knurl on the end for gripping. The die fits nicely in the center portion and has three knurled, slotted thumbscrews for securing the die into the die stock. I used mine to chase some 7/8-14 threads and it worked very well. The die stock is too short for cutting new threads in big diameter material, but would be fine for new threading up to 1/2". Overall it's a really nice tool for the money.

Does the job

Three screw, 1.5 inch stock matches pictures & descriptions & does what it needs to, at least for the one project for which I purchased it. Seems sturdy enough to last through many future projects if needed, but probably not frequent or industrial use. I accidentally ordered two & Amazon refunded me for one & told me to keep it, so that's cool I guess. Don't really need 2 laying around, but at least I don't have to bother with packing & shipping one back.

Body is cast white metal. It may not hold up.

The steel handles are nice. The body that holds the die is made of cast white metal. It may hold up to chasing threads. The stress on the screws will likely not hold up to much hard use.

Weak

The handles are made of steel but the body is white metal. It is questionable of how long it will last. The holding screws are not located correctly and therefore do not lineup with the locating holes in the die. I may be sending it back.

Cheap and works

Good quality tap handle for large style outside tapping dies, definitely not up to the standard of high end Starrett US made handles, but for an emergency job with a non-standard tap it did the job
