Loved it until the brush seized-up 6 months later
I have some great things to say, so stay tuned, but I'm currently so disappointed that the brush seized and the replacement part costs more than half of the entire cost of the vacuum that I'm torn on what to do. How useful is a great vacuum that only lasts 6 months? I bought this vacuum to replace my old/original Dyson which simply wasn't working anymore (lasted probably 13 or 14 years). I took a chance on a more affordable vacuum. The Razor was very impressive. Very light and easy to maneuver and had so much suction power that you could feel it sucking to the carpet and trying to crawl away from you. The size would be great for an apartment or second floor. The cord is pretty short and it's challenging to get through my large open floorplan home, but it was a small price to pay. It did the job, and did the job very well, especially for such a compact upright. There are a couple of slightly annoying design flaws. I don't consider any of them deal-breakers, but you may want to know about them when you're making a decision. * The latch to release the dirt from the canister is at the bottom. It requires you to hold the canister handle with one hand and use the other hand to open it. It's not easy to do and remain clean. Also, the two-handed operation can make it difficult if you also have to hold up a can lid. * The pet attachment mounts to the top of the wand when not in use. When you pull the wand out, that unused pet attachment is stuck to the top of the wand, making it nearly impossible to use. I ended up unclipping the pet attachment and leaving it in my laundry room. This also means that I almost never use it since it's not attached to the vacuum. *The hose for the wand is external. I like to use my wand as I'm vacuuming to get under and behind things. I like an easy transition between pushing and using the wand without a lot of fuss. By cleaning in this way, the hose is wobbling around behind the vacuum as I push. There are two clips where the hose can be secured, but it's not worth fussing with it in the middle of cleaning. I secure the hose when I'm done and, if I just want to do a quick run, that's the only time the hose stays out of the way. Some things you may want to know that I don't consider design flaws... * The brushes are very powerful and the head is very low profile. It's tried to eat my slightly soft unbacked small rugs. It does just fine on my larger solid area rugs. I do not have any long carpet so I don't know what the impact would be on that. * The pile height is not adjustable. * The vacuum is small and seems best suited for small spaces or small tasks. I was not surprised that it wasn't very steady and that it has a short hose. That seemed appropriate for its size. Best of luck to you if you're trying to vacuum the tops of bookshelves or refrigerator. * The pivot head feels like it could break if treated roughly. I've treated it with care and it's been fine so far. Some things I love... * Have I mentioned how powerful it is? I love going one swipe over a black area rug and watching it whisk the cat hair off in one swipe. * You can turn the brush off from the top of the vacuum. You don't have to bend over and adjust it on the head. This is great for quick uh-oh moments when it catches a favorite cat toy or the edge of bed sheet. It also makes switching from rug to floor a seamless operation. * It does fairly well with brushes either on or off on hard floors. There's a - not sure what to call it - splash guard-type-thing at the back of the head that keeps things from flying backward. It's not perfect but it does a pretty darn good job. I'm also pretty impressed at how well the head still works without the brushes. Uprights get most of their power from the brushes. * The narrow head makes it easy to get around furniture, under chairs, etc. I have a lot of furniture so this is a plus for me. If you have a lot of open space, you might prefer something with a wider head. * It's pretty easy to disassemble to clean and the filters are rinsable. Now, get out your tiny violins because here's why I'm so disappointed. The bearings in the roller seized up. I don't know how. I was just doing in my thing and I saw it stop. I turned it off, pulled it all apart, tested the belt and the motor - all good. One side was spinning and the other was not. Once I fully decided it was broken I tried to take it apart to see what happened. It won't budge. Checked online for parts and the design is pretty specific. There are no generics available and the OEM part is more than $50. Can you be heartbroken over the death of a vacuum? How can I justify paying that for a vacuum that I paid $79 dollars for? (I see now the price is $95.)

Wow
I could not believe the amount of debris, dust, cat fur, picked up in just one vacuum of my bedroom rug. So, I ran it again and an area rug. The amount rose over the fill line! The suction is amazing. I can't wait to do the rest of the house now! Had a bit of a moment on how to release the dirt cup, but it turns out it's easy and the clip to dump the dirt, easy as well. Very happy with this product.

Great solution for our hard floor cat friendly home
TLDR: A maneuverable light weight vacuum with helpful tools for all around the house especially my hard floors and furniture. The suction is solid compared to its' weight, basic filtration nothing special would probably want better if your allergies are REALLY bad. More of a 4.5 star than a four but can't give it a full 5. I had a very specific wish list when shopping for a vacuum: Swivels for maneuverability Attachments for crevices and furniture Lightweight Brushroll switch since there is no carpet in my house except for a bath mat Detachable brushroll in case it does need to be used and thus cleaned Easily accessible hose/wand for tight spots out of the floor heads reach Rinsable filter Under $200usd This vacuum checked every single one of those boxes. It was a toss up between this and the shark navigator but it didn't come with a furniture attachment and couldn't beat the price of this one. At my time of purchase it was under $100! I sacrificed the nice HEPA sealed filter and probably a little bit of suction power but have absolutely no regrets so far since I saved about $90. So far I've been pleasantly surprised and pleased with this vacuum. It has been perfect for the daily kitty messes that include her shed fur, litter kicked out of the box, dropped food, and the feathers or cardboard flakes from whatever toy/scratcher she's destroyed that day. It's light, gets nice and close to the edges, goes under and around the furniture easily, and the wand pops right off with the crevice tool right there for the awkward corners and gaps. I bought the vacuum primarily for cleaning the floors since I hate sweeping with a broom and dustpan, but this thing has also proven its' self for my furniture cushions and places normally out of reach for me. The dust brush tool picked up dust from places the swiffer duster and air duster couldn't like my tv's sound bar which was an awesome surprise. The brush end makes dusting the blinds and even shelves a breeze, any surface you can press the brush straight onto it cleans. We can even run it over the game consoles or keyboards instead of having the air duster just blow it around. I noticed the suction was lacking when trying to clean the ceiling fan, it got the underside of the blades just fine when I could push the brush firmly against it, but when I tried to do the top side it wasn't strong enough so I had to get the manual duster out. It is a little annoying when I need the crevice tool on its own to reach a tight space the brush is in my way but you are able to pop it off with a little effort. There's a tiny round dent that locks the brush in place but press it in firmly and you can pull the brush off and get where you need to go. Don't forget to put it back on though or else you're guaranteed to lose it. I did notice some stray cat hair was stuck in the "paw" attachment after vacuuming the cat tree and couch so I know I'm going to have to unscrew it and clean it eventually but doesn't seem too inaccessible for when the time comes. All in all I'm looking forward to using this vacuum to keep the floors and more under control and hope it lasts for years to come.

Powerful vacuum, untimely demise
I purchased this vacuum cleaner end of June 2022 and saw the end of its run in April 2023. Like the previous reviews I too loved the powerful clean that this vacuum provided. I have a medium hair cat and a long hair dog and this vacuum was perfect for us. Now my brushroll bearings on one side won’t turn and I can’t open it to clean it since the plastic looks to have melted. I can’t get the part replaced either since they don’t make it anymore, and even if they did - I don’t want to pay $50-$80 I’d rather buy a new and better vacuum. Several other people have detailed this same problem. So, it’s up to you upon purchasing. This vacuum is seeming to last people around 6-10 months before it breaks down beyond repair. An unfortunate outcome seeing how much I loved it before the breakdown… I still don’t know which vacuum cleaner to get but I don’t think it will be a dirt devil this time…

Great Upright Vacuum
Bought this vacuum to replace a Hoover that died, and am generally very happy with it. it is much lighter than my old upright, far easier to carry up to a second floor, head is more streamline - swivels & moves really well, and will fit under edge of sofa, works well on carpet & bare floors ( with power bar off) . Cleans well at walls edge, great suction, easy bin to clean out. I would have given 5 stars except it lacks in a couple of areas: 1) poorly weighted, falls over easily especially when using extension hose, and 2) this extension hose & attachments are a bit short, I will use longer crevice tool I have on hand. 3) I wished it had a light on vacuum head. All in all a very compact powerful vacuum, amazing suction & easy handling makes it a great overall upright vacuum

I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT WEEK SO I CAN VACUUM AGAIN
I don't normally write reivews, but I absolutely had to for this. OKAY. So I just got this bad boy. L I T E R A L L Y just got it like 20 minutes ago. My friend had lent me her vacuum when I moved in to my place back in April since it had carpet and I was super broke, and I contented myself with it because hey! its a vacuum I can use. It was kinda hard to use, and it kept spitting all the garbage back out the minute I'd even try to lift it a little and it was annoying, but I dealt with it. Fast forward some months, and I'm super sick and tired of strategizing my vacuumming to always end at the kitchen so I can sweep whatever the thing spat out, and so I go looking for some cheap options, and I find this little dude. I'm still on a tight budget, but I thought heck lets go for it. Everyone seems to like it, maybe it'll be worth spending a little more on a unit but waayyy below the $400+ Dysons. WELL. As of right now, I'm SUPER impressed. I'm both disgusted at what came out of my carpet and absolutely satisfied. There was stuff in the cannister I didn't even realized existed in my carpet, which then leads me to shudder at the thought of my lying down on it from time to time since it was in fact EXTREMELY polluted and might explain why it always felt so stuffy in here. Needless to say: I hated vacumming before, but I got excited to do so immediately when I cracked the box open. First off, it moves like a dream. You wouldn't think a vacuum could move so smoothly, but it does. I even started dancing with it a little as I had my music playing, which I could still here even over the sound of the vacuum. Its by no means quiet but it was enough that it didn't make my hamster freak out like the old one did. The suction is intense; I don't even have a pet (yet) that sheds but I got it with that in mind for the future and I can definitely see this thing haul pet hair like a pro. I mean it got all of mine, and I didn't even realize there was any hair laying around. That photo is from the first pass. That's nothing compared to what the old vacuum would pick up. In fact, that's actually more than the 6 months combined and I kid you not, because I still haven't thrown that cannister out cause it never sucked anything up! I showed my friend and she doesn't even want her own vacuum back LOL!!! My favorite part though, was the dumping of the gross. One button that opend up the cannister at the bottom. Didn't have to get my hands dirty, didn't have to touch anything or wrestle it out or shake it, just open and it all comes out. A++ design. Super into it. Anyway. I'll update this if it changes, but for now, I'm absolutely in love with this vacuum!!!

Loving it so far
I bought this to replace a Bissell whose roller brush melted after 7 months of admittedly light use. Bissell’s warranty was like “lol that’s your problem” so I decided to go with a Dirt Devil instead. Wow am I impressed with this vacuum! It’s a bit heavier and clunkier than our old one was, but the suction power is amazing. And it has a much bigger compartment, which is super easy to empty because you literally just open it and let the stuff fall into the garbage. You don’t have to wrestle any weird filter pieces out to empty it out, getting dust and crap everywhere in the process. We’ve only had this a couple months or so, so I suppose there’s still time for it to melt or something. But so far we’re okay. Will update this review if anything goes amiss, but I really like this vacuum so I hope it doesn’t.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME - RIPPED OFF BY DIRT DEVIL (UPDATED JULY 16, 2020)
My husband and I purchased this vacuum from Amazon on June 2nd and it arrived approx. 2 days later with Prime shipping (great - yay Amazon!). The first three times we used the vacuum it was good (although it's quite heavy and can be a little tricky to move around... it will also just randomly fall over when you stand it upright because of the swivel design). However, the forth time we used it, it started making groaning and grinding sounds. Turns out the plastic end on the right hand side of the beater bar had melted into the piece that allows it to spin freely...so it ceased to work. It was annoying but I figured I would call up Dirt Devil and ask for a replacement piece. This is where it all got weird. Instead of simply sending me a new beater bar for the machine, they insisted that they send me a new vacuum. Ok... I won't decline a new vacuum, maybe they thought the model would have additional problems after this?? Who knows. BUT, in order to send me a new vacuum, they also insisted that we cut the cord off the old machine with the broken beater bar (I guess so we don't resell it - fair) and to send a photo as proof and then they would confirm and send a new vacuum. Long process but ok! We cut the cord off, send the photo, get confirmation that they will send another vacuum and then we wait....and wait...and wait. It took them 3 weeks to SEND the new vacuum to us (just got it in the mail today) and GUESS WHAT. It's not the same freaking vacuum. Instead of sending us the model that we spent $200 for (retails on their American site for $129.99 - so $175 CAD which is what we paid through Amazon with shipping added on afterwards) they sent us a model that retails for $73 USD (or $99 CAD). To add insult to injury, the new vacuum sucks (and not in the good way). I am EXTREMELY disappointed in Dirt Devil as a company and will be phoning their customer service the minute it's open tomorrow for a refund. Long story short, I would avoid buying Dirt Devil products if I were you... UPDATE: July 16, 2020 I called Dirt Devil the next day to ask why we went sent a lesser model and their response was that the warranty allow you to be sent a new version of the same model or one of comparable value. When I pointed out that the model they sent us was $75 cheaper and asked where our money went she did not have an answer for me and asked if I wanted to take another warranty out. She mentioned that we could get the vacuum that we had bought originally with that warranty but we would have to wait until September because they were backordered. When I asked for a refund they refused and said to take it up with Amazon. I called Amazon immediately after and explained the situation. I didn't get the name of who I called but she was fantastic - so kind, patient, and understanding. I believe it was a one-time thing but she allowed us to return the original vacuum (with the cord cut off) for a full refund. I am SO thankful that this has been solved BUT I still would not recommend a Dirt Devil vacuum to anyone I know (which is why the 1 star will stay the same)
