Poor workmanship
Workmanship was terrible. Two of the four holes were way off center so i wont be able to use those. There are no alignment mark so its hard to tell if it is actually centering. Very expensive to have these kind of flaws!

Works great
This thing works great. Came damaged with a corner bent (wasn’t thrilled about that) however it centered to about 1/32 out of the box with no adjustment. Really tightens down to prohibit movement while drilling. I saw some others having trouble with this but just remember to mark the “outside” of the board across the joint and align from this and if a side overhangs use a scrap piece of the same thickness on the overhanging side of the jig. Make sure you take your time laying out your lines and make them as precise as possible. I also used a cheaper drill bit so it didn’t oval out the guide holes. You don’t need a $40 bit to drill through wood.

Awesome for half the job...Meh for face holes.
Honestly I am a bit frustrated at how difficult it is to find an 'All in one' hole jig that doesn't cost 300 bucks. I see them all over in the metric market but no SAE types. So we are stuck with having half the kit and pretty much guessing for the other part. This is great for drilling holes into the ends or sides of boards. Not so much for the face so when you go to make your holes for the face of the board so you can say, make a box (90 degree angle), happy times fussing with the little points you use to mark the location of the holes. Not as precise as I would like but it works. I get the same result measuring out the locations of each hole on the face so I don't even use the little pointy things you stick into your dowel holes to mark the locations anymore. Awesome jig for half the job though.

Works well, good value, but not perfect
For the price and performance, this jig is a good value. It's solidy built and does a good job of aligning dowel holes in the edges of your workpiece. The center piece, guide pins and screw are steel, and the side jaws are aluminum. The drill bushings are correctly sized for the indicated drill bit size and guide the bit without binding. For reference, the two holes with interchangable busings (1/4", 5/16", and 3/8") are spaced 3/4" on center. The 7/16" and 1/2" holes are in the other side of the jig, and are drilled directly in the housing. There are little centering marks that can be viewed through windows on the handle side to align the jig with the intended hole location. They're grooved and painted white to contrast the black steel, which is a nice feature. The only criticism I have is more of an aspect of this type of jig, not a quality issue with this model. The screw that adjusts and clamps the jig onto the workpiece is located above the workpiece, so as you tighten it, it causes the threads to bind. This makes it hard to loosen by hand. This is no different than any screw-type vise, but the small handle doesn't give much leverage. I've discovered using a pliers to loosen it is a good idea. Bottom line, this is a great little tool, just remember that it isn't quite as slick as it looks. I would definitely purchase it again.

Good Value, but doesn't center
This Jig is good for hobbyists, like myself, but definitely not self-centering. I bought it after reading the other reviews that complained about being off center (you get what you pay for). For my basic needs, I was able to use the jig and complete my project. I recommend this product, provided you're okay with manually centering or with holes slightly off center. When I opened the box, I used a piece of scrap wood to test the jig. At first attempt, the holes were off by 1/16 inch off center. Using a socket wrench, you can manually adjust one side of the jig. It took me 5 tries and about 30 minutes before getting holes centered. I've only used for one project, but I would guess it needs to be manually adjusted before each project, based upon its design and tendency for one side of the jig to open before the other.

Slightly off center out of the box, but easy to adjust
Nicely made. I didn't use it for doweling. I used it to drill a hole into the edge of some thin boards that I was preparing for use in floating shelves. Out of the box, it wasn't very well centered. At its widest, it was barely noticeable. At its tightest, it was slightly off center. The instructions showed how to correct the difference. Stayed reliable and repeatable after adjusting. Awesome buy. Next level up would have tripled the price.

worked like a charm on a DIY kitchen remodel to connect the cabinets together.
I used this in a kitchen remodel project. I put together the new cabinets myself, and I was very afraid of missing the center of the posts in the front of each cabinet. You have to drill long screws (2.5" or 3") in the front of each cabinet. Maybe the pros can hit the center all the time, but I had no faith in myself. So I bought this jig and used it on every hole. The one downside was that it didn't come with a small enough (whatever those things are called that you screw in). I needed that piece to snugly fit the drill bit. So I bought a short piece of copper tubing, cut it shorted, and hammered it into place. The project had enough cabinets and holes that I eventually widened the inside of the copper tube, but I just knocked out the old one, and put in a new piece. While it seems that I screwed up every other task on this DIY remodel, at no point did a screw that was connecting the cabinets together fall out of place. (Like come out through the front of the cabinet - didn't happen.)

Jiggy
With any jig, take your time to set it up and pay attention to the layout and which side of the board you are using as the reference/ measurements. Align and drill from the same "side" and the holes shouldn't be off. I found that if I tightened the jig using the screw, the bottom flanges would flair out. While drilling, it was easy for the jig to pop up off off the board as well. Easily remedied by using a clamp (the pads fit perfectly in space) so the jig is squared to the board. After doing that, the jig didnt pop up or move. The jig didnt leave any compression marks on the wood. I cut my knuckle up pretty bad on the guide post trying to loosen the jig. Would be nice if they designed it to also accept an allen key or socket. I still like it though and it will be used to make a few doweling T-squares.

OK for the price
The hole mark line of this jig is not on the same level as the mark you would make on your wood; that means the jig has some potentially perspective error if you couldn't keep your view angle consistently. Besides, the mark line on the jig is quite bold, so a mark knife(or pencil with small tip) would cause error too. My best practice is use pencil with bold tip to mark the hole I want to drill ( I started at the center, then draw additional two lines on both side of the center line), and try my best to look at the jig from the top (perpendicular to the working surface).

Alignment issues
The most important feature is the line indicator. After layout you need to align your Marlins with this tool... the tool centre lines are 1/8” wide. How the hell are you able to align anything with that?! Save yourself the money and buy the jig from Task. This tool is useless.

Buy something better. You'll regret this.
The main threaded screw is held on with a couple of nuts and a flimsy washer. Should have gotten something mm ore solid

Decent purchase.
The unit has worked well on the project I purchased it for, no problems with alignment of the dowels. The one concern I had with it is that the alignment marks are not even with the surface of the lumber when trying to align it with the dowel marks, so you have to be pretty careful when aligning it to drill the holes. Very sturdily built, and it appears that it would be hard to damage the drill guides. Overall appears to be a good purchase.

Solid and simple to use
This is a great jig! Solid metal build, super simple to use, and makes perfectly centered dowel holes (in my case for gluing up boards).
