This is for 1/4 inch collets
So looking at the picture you would assume this is a 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch collet centering cone. But like me, you would be wrong. I'm not sure what the large diameter is but it is NOT 1/2. So I will use this on my trim router. Be forewarned if you are wanting to use a 1/2 inch collet.

Don't change plates without it if you use bushings.
If you don't align the plate and use a template bushing you can easily damage your bit, the bushing or your project.

Should Be Included with the Router
The DeWalt Router Baseplate Centering Tool works well enough to center base plates and jigs on my 3 DeWalt routers. Apparently this tool was designed for the smaller trim router, but it also seems to work fine with my larger plunge router and the DW618's 1/2" collet. However, as mentioned in previous reviews, DeWalt may have better demonstrated their performance and quality brand standards to have included it with their routers (eg the DW618). NOTE: Apparently Home Depot now includes the tool in the DeWalt 1 3/4 HP router bundle, but not their larger (or smaller) tools.

Has some play, cone is too small for base plates with wider openings
I bought this centering cone to use with my Bosch 1617 router based on the advertised dimensions (4.6 x 3.2 x 0.3 inches), Amazon's repeated recommendations (which, in turn, were based on my purchase history), and based on other Bosch 1617 owners' reviews which said they were using this centering cone with the same full-sized router. Although the product description does say it's for a fixed-base compact router, I thought I was safe based on all these other factors (in particular, the dimensions). As it turns out, the cone is about 1-3/4" in diameter and the pin is 1/4"on one end and 3/8" on the other end. Unfortunately, the cone is too small for the base plates that come with Bosch's 1617 router and the pin cannot be used with a 1/2" collet. The other reviewers who said they used this with their full-sized Bosch routers must be using aftermarket baseplates and forgot to mention it in their reviews. Not a big deal, I suppose, because you can just use your router and chamfering bit to make your own bigger cone from wood or plastic. But it's still a hassle, considering that it couldn't have cost Dewalt much more to make the cone just a little bigger. I was also disappointed with the amount of play with the included plastic cone. It wobbles enough that you need to wrap a few layers of Scotch tape or a layer of electrical tape around the pin to actually get the base plate centered. I ended up sending it back because of the size issue and imprecision. If you have a trim router or if your subbase hole is small, this centering cone will probably work fine; but you may have to wrap some tape around the pin.

A necessity for using bushings
I purchased an additional base for my DeWalt DW611 router (the base which came with the router does not accept bushings). I was able to use this centering cone to place my new base exactly in the center aligned with the router bit. I am confident I can, now, use my bushings knowing I am in line with the router bit. In my opinion, it would be impossible to correctly line up a router base to the router bit without using a centering cone. I suppose the centering cone would, also, be necessary in other applications -- if you have a jig, the bit could be further from one side than the other if the bit were not aligned in the middle. Bottom line -- if you are going to replace the router base, you should use a centering cone; this one works perfectly.

Very helpful
Very useful when you need to change the base plate. Also works for routers with a 1/4" collet other than DeWalt. If not included with the router, should be offered as part of a kit with an optional base plate and/or the edge guide instead of requiring customers to buy the individual parts for their router.

Useless with bushings
I got this for centering my router baseplate while using bushings (templates). It is completely USELESS, since the base of the cone is much too large and cannot get into small bushing opening. Had to return it ... and made some wood centering cones with my wood lathe, so that they fit with bushings and do what it is supposed to do.

Centers well
Essential for re-centering your router subplate if you take it off (like when you're using a circle jig). Simple and works well but I feel like Dewalt should include these with their routers not make you buy it separately.

Very easy to set up
Very easy to set up and quality is good.A tad overprice compared to the all metal versions though.Tolerance is spot on.
