FIVE STAR ELEGANGE

This is actually my second set. The first one I gave to my ex as a Christmas gift but when he was shown the door he took it with him. So I wanted to get another one for myself. It's stunning and definitely is a conversation piece when company comes over. The price of this set has definitely increased since I purchased the original one in 2013. I purchased it from Wayfair and I paid about $140. I was shocked to see the price doubled for the same set BUT I had to take the "L" because there is just NOTHING like the beauty, elegange and the enormous size of the pieces anywhere else online that I could find and I searched for weeks. I am in love with this set. I read another reviewer stating his dog was caught chewing on one of the pieces and therefore it was durable. I agree to a point. I remember with my original set, my cleaning lady dropped one of the pieces on the tile floor and it broke in half. But luckily it was a fairly clean break and nothing a little super glue couldn't repair. It wasn't perfect after gluing it back but it was barely noticeable. So all in all I would definitely recommend this set if you don't mind shelling out $300. Look at it as a part of your home decor that's truely usable ????

Nice set but not a masterpiece

For the anount of money, I expected better. Sure it's nice but the pieces are resin. From the pictures, I'd expect better material. The board is made from cheap wood. For the price, I expect nicer wood, hardwood even. The bigger pieces are fine but I find it hard to distinguish the king from the knight if you don't pay close attention. Staring at the back of their heads, all you see is their hair. At least the bishop is wearing headress to make them different. Oh, and yest, the pieces are tall and they block the pieces in front of them. Tall can be a good thing, but not when they're bunched up and you can't see all your pieces. The pawns fall over. Too easily. The base is small and they are top-heavy. I bought some 1.5" wood biscuits and felt and added them as bases.

Beautiful and Tough...will handle kids and dogs with chew addictions like they are puny gods

This set is beautiful! We love playing with it and it's a major center piece in my living room. The most surprising part about it. Ine day I walk in and I see my 75 lbs mastiff pitbull gnawing on a knight. I am devastated. I spent a pretty penny on this. I grab the piece out of his ginormous mouth and what, the piece is fine. I mean, the felt on the bottom is gone and there are a few scratches and some of the more intricate details are gone; but you can't see if unless you look for it. I sigh with relief and go to out the piece back on the board when I notice a rook is gone. Just gone. No where to be seen. I spend hours and hours (okay, maybe 20 min) looking for it and yep, dog must have eaten it. I start trying to figure out if I can just buy one piece when my husband walks in from outside with, you guess it, my Rook in his hands! The dog buried it with his other toys. After cleaning it up, again the felt was gone, but other than that, near perfect condition. These are some solid pieces

LOOVEE!!!

My jaw hit the floor when I opened this. Simply beautiful. I wanted to teach people about philosophy of life using these characters but unfortunately had to return this due to financial difficulties. Will definitely reach out to the company in near future about something I'm working on. Once again, even if you dont play chess this would be a thing of beauty to have on a shelf.

The board is nothing special. It's just a standard chess board of good quality. The pieces themselves are beautiful. Detailed, and well made. They won't break too easily. My only complaint about how they are made is that the pawns are a little top heavy so a light bump and they will fall over. Not a big deal. The pieces do not come with a carrying case of any kind. You will not be able to transport them unless you get your own carrying case. Not a big deal if you plan on keeping them in one spot. Excellent chess set all in all.

It is a beautiful chess set. And if you are not playing chess too much, it is a nice decoration. We regret buying this chess set. The pieces are not balanced very well. Also, due to the height of them it is very hard to see the game.

the pieces are better than I thought! large board, and the pieces are very distinct so you know what piece you are grabbing! makes a great center piece for the dining room table, well you're going to need a larger table with this set

Where to begin.. I love chess, Ive played it since I was a kid. Now, I play it with my son, who is becoming interested in it. When I saw this set I loved it and had to get it. I knew it would be the set Id own and use until the end of my days. Perfect "Heirloom" set. It's extremely big! covers a side table easily. The king stands at a whopping 6.5 ''. It's a little awkward moving it around due to the size, so I recommend you have a semi-permanent home for this one. The board I received isnt spackled with dry glue under the varnish, as other buyers had described. But there are gouges in the board from the planing/ sanding done on it. But hardly noticeable, and still very beautiful. It came very carefully packaged, you could drop kick the box and I doubt anything wouldve broken! It also came delivered to my door before it said it would. Very happy with this set and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good set to add to a good home.

Chessboard is a piece of crap!!!

The chess pieces are beautiful, but the chessboard absolutely sucks. There are sloppy white dried glue streaks all around the perimeter of the chess board, & drips of the same white stuff on the surface of the board before it was lacquered, so that you cannot remove the white drips & streaks no matter what you do.. And apparently it is on every chessboard of this set, since I exchanged it with Amazon, & the replacement board they set me had all of the same glue streaks around the sides, & dripped sloppily on the surface as well. The board flaws greatly distract from the beauty of the set. This board is NOT the same quality as the pieces, & is NOT worth the money at all..

Misleading?

While the set is good, I think the advertising is a little misleading, eg: Hand-cast using real crushed stone bonded with high-quality designer resin Each piece is individually hand-finished by our artisans On the bottom of each piece says "Made in China" ... Which takes away the "Hand - cast, individual hand-finished" allure, rather, seems more like mass-produced, and if it was advertised as such not sure that would even be a problem. Just seems a little misleading. The pieces do appear to have been painted in varying ways, so that is likley what it means by "Hand-finished", paint marks differ on the pieces. So maybe, made in China, hand painted by ....

Très bel article

Rien à dire sur l'objet. Tout est parfait. Le plateau mériterait d'être un tiers plus grand pour accueillir et mettre en valeur ces pièces magnifiques et permettre de mieux les déplacer. Je suis avant tout sous le charme.
