The kit did its job, but instructions were sparse.

I used this kit to rebuild a 1990s era Delta shower valve. Since I've had some experience with DIY plumbing I was able to complete the job in about 20 minutes and the end result was a leak-free shower - but the instructions were a bit vague and referred mostly to sink faucets.

I only used the cups and springs

My faucet is a delta but the ball and plastic piece are different than what is in this package. the plastic piece had a bit more of a triangle opening on mine for adjusting hot and cold. I only used the small cups and springs to fix my leak.

Perfect Fit

If you’re trying to figure out if this is the correct replacement for your dripping shower, see attached pictures. If the parts look the same, this is the kit to buy. Perfect fit for the 600 series Delta shower. Takes about 10 minutes to install with simple hand tools (screwdriver and needle nose pliers). Make sure you apply silicon lubricant to the rubber.

Revised design works better than the original

I bought this because the twenty-year-old bathroom faucet's seals had given out, so it was either try to fix it or replace the whole faucet with a new one. I had already disassembled the faucet, so I felt alright in trying a repair. The faucet kit arrived promptly, and the same evening I set about applying it. I thought perhaps I would need to look online for instructions, but I found an instruction guide was printed with the package label. I looked over the parts, and was momentarily wondering whether I had ordered the right kit, but the instructions mentioned that the part design had changed. They also specified removing the adjustment ring that had the job of keeping enough pressure on gaskets so that they did not leak. I replaced the two small rubber sleeved seals for the supplies and their springs, after doing the recommended cleaning of the ports with a soft cloth. The new ball's post went through the gasket assembly, and all that went into the faucet barrel. I removed the no-longer-needed adjustment ring from the barrel cover, then tightened down the barrel cover. I positioned the handle to midway and slowly turned on the supply lines in turn, verifying no leakage was happening where it shouldn't, then bringing the handle to the closed position and seeing that there was no flow there. That all took me about thirty minutes, and I was being slow and making sure I read the directions because of the parts change. Next time, I think a changeover would take me maybe twenty minutes from starting disassembly to putting the decorative handle cover back on. The newly repaired faucet handle moves more freely, yet does not have any leakage. This is one time where the newly re-engineered solution succeeds brilliantly. It is easier to put together, has fewer adjustments that have to happen, and works better than the original ever did. Congratulations to the product designers.

Use this kit when updating to Delta kit RP54870

Hello, I used this kit in conjunction with the Delta Faucet Shower Handle Renovation Repair Trim Kit for Delta 600 Series Tub and Shower Trim Kits, Chrome RP54870. You need to buy both kits because the two O-rings are not included with the handle conversion (which seal the skirt) and the mixing ball included with the handle conversion REVERSES the Hot / Cold delivery. DANGER, DANGER!!! The service kit for the faucet provides a brand-new mixing ball (#212). If you compare the mixing ball that comes with the handle conversion, you will see that the holes do not line-up properly with the valve body inlets and using it will create a safety hazard. The replacement mixing ball (#212) in the service kit (also in Danco kit #86971) was identical to the old valve which worked as it should. To reinforce the stem I screwed-in and soldered a brass screw (#10-24) and rounded the stem of the replacement mixing ball. I ground a flat spot against which the set screw will tighten. Another reviewer did essentially the same thing I did (Bravo, Ron Zuschin!). I opened the hole in the handle with a 15/64" bit. It works just like before, logical temperature adjustments without flow restriction. It is great to breath new life into an old fixture! Rick

New life to an old faucet

Did just what I needed. Stopped an old leaky Delta faucet from dripping without needing to do any major work or replace the whole thing. Used on a single knob bath/shower diverter faucet and the job was done in 10m.
