So quiet!
My husband just installed this fan and I can’t believe how quiet it has s compared to the old one. I would definitely recommend!

SOOO QUIET
Fan was easy to install and is so quiet. It has a little green light that tells me it is running. My last bathroom fan sounded like someone hitting a can with a spoon. So this one is a dream. Sounds like a very very quiet fan. Peaceful!

Easy install in an ideal situation
If you have an ideal situation (attic access or flex duct connections for a room-side install) then this is easy to install and is pretty quiet. I wouldn't say silent, or whisper quiet, by my two installs involved 4" to 3" duct reducers which is known to increase the sound level of the unit, as well as flex-ducting over to the existing duct and putting turns in ducting also increases noise. I will say that I had it running in my bathroom and was standing in my bedroom and couldn't hear it over my washer's spin cycle three rooms away - I had to go into the bathroom to check that it was running. I bought this unit in particular because it was rated as being very quiet and the size was approximately the same size as the units I was replacing and I only had to do minor modifications to the gyp board ceiling for the install - enlarging the holes 1/2" on one side only. As for the install itself, wiring is easy (three connections), my units came with hanger bars that I didn't use, I just screwed the house directly to the stud, and the unit that I got (the basic, no frills, no lights, no humidity sensor, etc.) came with an operating light so when I turn it on in a dark bathroom I can see the light in the grille indicating that it's running. I definitely didn't have an ideal installation situation but my review is not based on my overall hassle, just on the actual unit's installation and operation.

Very Pleased So Far
Installation was a snap. This vent fan replaced a very old Nautilus fan we had in our bathroom ceiling that did more rattling than it did venting. The dimensions of the cutout in your ceiling should be close to 8" x 8.25". It can be a little bit larger as the plastic shroud is 10.75"x10.75". The vent tubing is 4" also. Some smaller vents are 3" so make sure you buy the right diameter vent tubing for this. There are brackets on the side of the chassis that allow you to screw it into a ceiling joist, and an electrical access panel with two slug cutouts which allow you to choose whether your electrical enters on the side or the top. Inside the electrical access panel is the standard black (hot), white (neutral), and green (ground) wires. The wires are 14 gauge twisted (not solid) core. The electrical access panel is held on by a single screw. Thats all there is to installation. Upon turning on the fan, it takes 3-4 seconds to spin up to full speed, and it is very quiet. Our old fan came with the house and was very old, so I cannot say with any level of certainty how many sones it had, but this thing is quiet. You can clearly tell its on when in the bathroom, but close the bathroom door, and take a couple of steps down the hall and you'd never know it is on. This is very important to us, because our baby's nursery is right next to the bathroom, and the fan cannot be heard in the next room. I also like the idea of the green LED that lets you know when its time to clean the fan. The plastic shroud is held on by tension clips, so it will be very easy to clean when the time comes. That's really all I can say about this fan. Installation was a snap, the build quality seems good, and the fan is as quiet of a bathroom as I've ever heard. Only time will tell how well it holds up, but I know Delta makes a lot of ventilation products. Their PC case fans are considered some of the best out there, so I have no concerns that I will continue to be pleased with this fan for years to come.

It's quiet, but not that quiet. Needs a little engineering fix to meet code, but overall not bad.
I'm a licensed General Contractor and have installed many, many exhaust fans. This one is nice. I like the DC motor for its efficiency and low noise level. I saw the reviews reporting some buzzing or humming, so after I connected the wiring but before I permanently installed it, I turned the power on to listen to it. There was no buzzing or humming. All I coud hear was the quiet whoosh of the fan moving air. If I had heard buzzing or humming after installation, I would have known that it was because of my installation, and not coming from the motor or fan assembly itself. As it turns out, all I could hear after installation was the quiet whoosh of the fan moving air. It wasn't so quiet that it needs a pilot light to let you know it's running, though. That seems like sales hyperbole to me. I used this fan-only unit as a wall fan, a use which the manufacturer approves. Installed as a wall fan, the little green LED pilot light will never be seen from behind the grille, anyway. There are two knock-out slugs in the removable cover for the electrical connection. When used as a wall fan, one of the knockouts would be at the bottom, one at the back. I opted to use the one on the back. I removed the knockout and installed a UL listed romex clamp in the hole, clamped the wire in, connected the three wire nuts and ran my test. Then I tried to re-install the cover, but it wouldn't go back on. I tried several times but it just wouldn't go. I had to un-do the wire nuts and take the fan back down so I could look at it. The inside of the wiring compartment has a diagonal sheet metal piece that interferes with the nut on the threaded UL listed romex clamp. There is no way you can use the code-required romex clamp in the back knockout. The cover will not fit back into the fan housing with it installed. This is an engineering problem that should be fixed with this fan. See attached photos showing how the threaded nut on the clamp would occupy the same space the sheet metal piece occupies. Fitting the fan into an existing wall requires the duct be attached before sliding the fan into the hole. That requires the hole to be about 3/4" taller than the fan box. Using the bottom knockout for the wiring would require notching out the wall so far that the grille wouldn't cover the notched-out hole. I ended up just running the bare romex through the back knockout hole, which would not pass an electrical code inspection. If the UL inspectors put a romex clamp in that back knockout and saw how the cover couldn't be installed, they'd pull their UL rating on this fan until that was fixed.
