This worked perfectly in my situation.

My front door was originally installed in 1939 with an antique corbin mortise lock. The cylinder that was in the door when I bought my house was original and some of the pins inside broke. My key would not insert fully into the cylinder and thus I could not lock the door. First, I tried all the big box stores to no avail. Then I tried local, family owned hardware stores, and nothing. Finally, I went to a locksmith who gave me three options. He could rekey the cylinder at a rate of 100$ per hour labor, he could give me a new cylinder which would take three weeks and cost 75$ or he offered to replace the entire mortise lock with a new, equivalent product for 400$!!! Needless to say I thought it was worth a shot to buy this product for about $11. Before this happened I literally knew nothing about locksmithing, but lucky for you dear reader, I have done the research for you. I went to my local library and checked out some 65+ year old books. Read up on locksmithing, checked all of the internet forums, and finally found out how easy this procedure actually was. First, I had to take the old cylinder out of the lock, this required unscrewing the set pin, which is located on the front plate of the lock itself. After that, all I had to do was unscrew the old cylinder and the entire thing came out. Then I had to take the cam (this is the little toggle that actually turns when you turn your key) off of the back of the old one because it was a unique size and put that cam onto this new cylinder which I bought from amazon. Then I screwed in the new cylinder and voila! The lock works perfectly and I have new house keys which function much better and are much less worn down than my original keys from 1939. This was an excellent investment and saved me between $65-400. If you think it might work for you, take the chance, it may be worth it.

Great replacement lock.

Great replacement for my old lock system. Seems to be solid brass which is very good (some are just coated). Installed in the 1950s location and works well. Thanks!

It fits!

The mortise lock for my front door dates from the middle of the last century but essential elements of the design have not changed. I removed the old cylinder and measured its diameter and length with a micrometer. Looking for a replacement on Amazon, I found that only the description of this Defender product provided the important dimensions. The replacement arrived within a couple of days of placing the order. It is made of solid brass and it appears to be virtually identical to the old cylinder, except that the cam is about 1/8 inch longer. The thread on the new cylinder matched my antique lock and it easily screwed into place. It was actually a better fit than the original because, when it was screwed in tight, the key slot was vertical and at the bottom, while the old cylinder had to be backed off a quarter turn to align the key slot correctly. I had to swap out the cam from the old cylinder to get the new one to function correctly in the lock, but it fitted perfectly and only required a few minutes work. Getting an antique lock renewed for around $12 is a bargain that would be difficult to beat!

A Great Deal For The Price, You Get More Than You Pay For

It's a standard 5 pin mortise cylinder, nothing fancy just the basics. The lock mechanism itself contains 5 pins, and it came with 2 keys. For you locksmiths or lock picking hobbyists like myself, this is a good beginner lock to put in your vice and start picking because it has no security pins (no spools or serrated pins). For what it is, (a very basic mortise cylinder), it's a great buy at $9 to $11. The only thing I was disappointed with is the fact that if you want to re-pin it, it doesn't look easy compared to some of the other brands (like Corbin Russwin or Schlage).I took 1 star off for that. However, if you just need a mortise cylinder for normal purposes (to use as an actual lock in a door), this is a great buy. You literally cannot go wrong if you consider the price tag of other name brand mortise cylinders (anywhere from $40 up to $120).

Perfect fit

I had a very old door with one key that no local locksmith or big box store could duplicate (No one still had the blanks for my key). Saw this, and easily installed to solve the problem. Perfect fit, attractive appearance, and feels like a heavy duty well made cylinder, especially for a very reasonable price. A definite win.
