Softens but smells weird

It works!
I've used several other "softeners" but was unsatisfied with the results and I also was constantly scratching my beard which seemed like a brillo pad. Cremo does work. I use it daily and leave it on my beard and mustache for 60 seconds (not 30 as recommended) . The itching is gone and the bear is softer and much better controlled. The product does have a smell that is not as great as others have described but that is not important to me.

Expectation was low, results were high
I have been growing a beard and mustache for about 5 years now. I keep my mustache at about 1/2" and my beard at about 1.5". My mustache hairs at the top of my mustache seem to want to grow straight out, not bending down. I bought this product to calm my mustache cowlick. I was first unsatisfied, as I put this in my mustache, washed it out in a minute, and those top mustache hairs still stuck out the same amount. I re-read the instructions for use, and I see this product is not really a "relaxer" instead it is a conditioner (much less harsh). I have since started using this product daily in the shower. I wash my beard with beard wash, I wash my face, then I rinse both and apply about a 1/2" dollop of this conditioner all over my beard and mustache. I then wash my body and then rinse everything off... this means this conditioner stays in my beard and mustache for maybe 2-3 minutes. (longer than the 30 sec recommendation) My mustache hairs are now looking good, laying down a bit as I prefer. My beard is also becoming more manageable. The smell is great, love the cedar. This is a good product, and I will purchase again.

Bizarre scent but it works
PROS: • Beard is noticeably softer after using for a short time • Well-designed packaging, like everything else from Cremo CONS: • Funky smell DETAILS: The fragrance used in this product is a bit off-putting. I believe another reviewer described it as "wet ashes." That's pretty accurate. The good news is the smell completely rinses out after the application is done. You only really smell it while using it. The product itself works pretty well. I've used it once a day during showers for about a week and definitely notice my beard is softer to the touch. My routine is shampoo beard, rinse, then apply a healthy-sized dollop of the Cremo for about 45-60 seconds despite the instructions for only 30 seconds. My beard is pretty full, so I feel the longer application time can only help. It takes awhile to fully rinse out, similar to any other hair conditioner. It also leaves a slimy-feeling residue on the skin after rinsing it out of the beard, so make sure to use this first if applying while showering. Overall 4/5.

Very low expectations, shockingly impressed
I’ve tried a lot of beard products to deal with a very coarse beard. Beard washes and conditioners, leave in conditioners, straighteners, hair masks, you name it. All have been pretty much the same - nothing special. I had extremely low expectations of this, I think in large part because I had seen the brand in a drug store and just expected it to be nothing special. When first rubbing it in, my expectations dropped. Unlike most other products which feel really soft and like it’s actually conditioning the hair, this product feels odd when you put it on. And when you rinse it off, it almost feels like the beard has been stripped of its normal oils. Yet unlike other products which feel great when they’re in your beard then have little to no effect after, this actually made my beard noticeably softer afterwards. I was shocked to say the least. Is it magic? No, but after years and hundreds of dollars spent on products that don’t do anything at all this was a very pleasant surprise!

Works well and not too strong
I like the smell of this product since they reformulated it about a year ago. The old formula smelled like being hit in the face with a pine tree; this one is much more light. It seems to work well as a conditioner. It doesn't strip oil out of your beard which is good if the hair in your beard tends to be more dry.
