I love popcorn. Air-popped, stove popped, even microwave in a pinch, but most of all, I love movie theater popcorn. I go to the movies, not to sit next to strangers coughing and talking, but because that is where I can get the best popcorn. Then I discovered that Disney World sells it, and you can buy a reuseable bucket for $10, and refill it with delicious movie theater style popcorn for $1.50 forever after. We live in central Florida and have passes, so bye-bye movie theaters as I could now get my fix at Disney almost weekly! Then....Covid-19 arrived, and months have gone by with no end in sight to my craving for crunchy, salty, tasty movie theater popcorn. Ugh! So I began to think that there must be something I can do about this. Thank goodness for Amazon! With a little bit of research, my dilemma was solved, crisis averted, and I can now sit at home getting happily fat on as much movie theater popcorn as my heart desires! Check out my other reviews for the future Keto bars and shakes I'll be living on once I get my fill of popcorn! Ha! Seriously, I hunted around looking for what would be the best system for achieving perfect results and flavor for specifically movie theater style popcorn. I already own 2 air poppers, which I love, but it's a completely different result. I looked at several types of popping devices and decided on this one because it looked like good quality, being stainless steel and heavier than the aluminum ones. I don't like burned popcorn. This popper is heavy, sturdy, and pops perfect popcorn without any burning. It is extremely easy to clean, just wipe it out after using (and cooling down) with a cloth and it's good to go. It has 3 places on the lid where it snaps on to the pot securely, and this is fantastic because as soon as the popcorn is finished, you can pick up the pot by the wood handle without needing potholders, and with the one unsecured flap on the top, you can dump the fresh, hot popcorn into a bowl. The top also has 4 little vents that face in toward the center of the pot so that as steam and little droplets of oil escape, it is kept to a minimum and doesn't spray out onto the stove, or the person making the popcorn. The top also has all metal gears, and a stirring mechanism for the bottom of the pot to stir the popcorn around as it pops so that you can avoid burning it. This works great for moving the popcorn. I have made popcorn 3 times in 2 days, and every time I get almost every kernal popped, and no burning at all. So, here is my perfect recipe for popcorn that tastes even better than movie theater popcorn. Better because of the quality of the actual popcorn with no hulls attaching to your teeth, and in my case probably a bit more oil than normal because I have no pump for adding extra oil on after finishing, so it's all with the popped corn - but trust me, it's the perfect amount! I'm not saying it won't kill you eventually, but if you have to go, death by carb loaded fatty popcorn is my choice! Anyway... 3 TBSP Butter Flavored Coconut Oil - I bought Golden Barrel Butter Flavored Coconut Oil ($9.97/amazon) scant 1/2 tsp Flavacol Popcorn Salt - This is necessary and the secret to perfect flavor - ($7.80/Amazon) 1/4 cup good quality popcorn - I bought Amish Country 2-2lb bags Purple Popcorn Kernals ($12.99/Amazon) Turn stove on high, add oil, salt and popcorn. When it starts popping, slowly turn the crank to move popcorn around and when the popping slows to just a couple still popping, remove and keep stirring for about 20-30 seconds to make sure you get as many popped as possible, then carefully pour into a bowl and enjoy. 1/4 cup of popcorn makes a perfect amount for 2 people (or exactly enough for me). The pot makes 1/2 cup at a time and the instructions will tell you that, and to make it along with 3 tbsp oil. I did that the first time and it was a LOT of popcorn! Good for a family of 4 (but yeah, I did eat it all but it took me about an hour and a half, lol). the next time I decided to cut the popcorn amount in half but keep the 3 tbsp oil, and it is the perfect combination. Happy popping everyone!
