Decent woodworking vise for the money
It racks quite a bit under a side load. And the jaws were not parallel after mounting. Had to shim the wooden insert for the front jaw. Still - I'm happy with it. It's not a $400 vise after all.

Heavy duty and tight
The media could not be loaded. This was a great by for the money spent. it is sturdy, precision ground faces and easy to operate. I love the quick release on it, super quick, super easy to operate and the thing installed so easily. Mym mistake however was not mortising the bottom into the bench to drive hte jaws all the way to the top edge of my bench resulting in the extension dog to be usable. I can easily fix this by just milling a new dog for the jaw and extend it up 3/4", all solved and easy fix.

Good Vise
I bought two of these vises to retrofit a hard maple workbench my father-in-law gave me. I put one vise on the end of the bench, and one on the side. The legs were connected via a cross brace, so I had to drill through that to put the end vise in. The vise came apart easily and I drilled a hole for the screw and the rods. I drilled slightly larger than needed for clearance, but as I unwound the vise, one of the rods barely touched the cross brace. If there was ANY resistance on the rod, the quick release gave and the vise would stop opening. Also, the website and instruction manual says the vise fits 2-1/4" benches, but my bench is exactly 2-1/4" and the vise didn't fit by 1/4". I put in a 1/2" shim so that the vise sits 1/4" below the top of the bench. I did this so I can still plane down the top without nicking the vise if I need to. None of these are big issues, and easily fixed with a little bit of elbow grease. Otherwise, the vise works great. I gave four stars instead of 5 because the paint chips very easily. Otherwise, its a great value.

Very heavy, get someone to help or place a small table under your bench to give you support.
The product is well made, well packaged, well greased and comes with clear mounting instructions. I used a piece of wood to increase the thickness of my workbench butcher block and used carriage bolts to secure the vise from the top. I hid the bolts using 7/8” pipe round dowels. This vise will enhance the functionality of your workbench and it looks great.

Avoid this vise AND Does not fit 2-1/4" benches without a shim
Both the product description and the manual say that this vise will fit a workbench 2-1/4" thick without a shim. This is wrong. I did a test fit and saw that it wouldn't sit flush with my 2-1/4" benchtop, so I tried it with a 1/4" shim and it looked good. I installed it with that shim and it's STILL proud by about 1/32". Since the back face of the vise requires wood screws to install, I can't just throw a small shim under it and reinstall it unless I move it or fill the holes. I'm going to have to file the vise down if I keep it. The quick-release mechanism intermittently skips as well. Mind you, I installed this vise minutes ago. This skipping makes it impossible to open/close the vise until the mechanism decides to catch. With my limited experience, it appears if you tighten the vise "too much", the quick-release will skip, preventing you from opening the vise. And you HAVE to tighten it "too much" to hold work securely because the jaws aren't parallel. You can fix this by adding pads to it and make the pads parallel, but you shouldn't have to. The vise can only be described as "crusty". The entire vise, screw and all, are covered in a thick grease (for rust protection) that is full of metal and paint chips. I haven't had a chance to look because I'm so frustrated, but I assume that's what's causing the quick-release to not seat properly. It was either used when I got it or the packaging is abysmal. The box had fallen apart completely. One corner had a hole in it so large I could stick my hand in it. The screw was poking out the back and the box was more tape than cardboard. All that was in the box was the vise in a plastic bag, the manual and a thin piece of corrugated cardboard. The vise is 25 pounds, give or take. It needs more than just an empty box for shipping! If I didn't just spend the last 2 hours putting this on by myself and hadn't bought all the hardware to install it, and hadn't drilled holes all over my workbench, I'd return it... if I had a box to return it in.

Quality built even for a China built tool
Well made looks like US quality, not China junk. Excellent price very sturdy and heavy duty.

Get a grip.
This vise rocks. I was able to install it on my own, but I disassembled it first so I could handle the part that fixes to my workbench more easily. If you try this yourself, be sure to carefully note how the quick-release mechanism functions so you can reassemble the parts correctly. It could be tricky getting the parts back together otherwise, I believe. I took some photos of the fully-extended rig, using my iPad camera, before I took it apart. It works quite well, as advertised, and I feel I made a very good choice. Very nice price, and the engineering is good.

works terrific in the wood shop
works very good. unfortunately mine arrived with a large piece broken out of the front casting on the right where the hole is drilled to mount "padding" stock. I could not wait for return/inspection and re-shipping because of job on the go. I wish I had waited. The replacement is the 7 inch opening model. It does have a fair bit of "racking" wich is not desirable for what I do. If this can land un-damaged, you will not be disappointed. Packing was atrocious on this shipment, I'm sure that's what messed up a great deal. Unless of course someone in amazon warehouse thought that break was cosmetic.

Pretty good for the price.
Vise works good but face plates dont line up parellel, the tilt towards top though and may be meant to be like that? Dont see it being a huge issue and quick release is nice so pretty solid for the price.

Ok not perfect
This vise is heavy duty , the castings are a bit rough and finishing could be better . I found the quick release mechanism not that smooth . Compared to my brother's Record which he has had for about 15 years his quick release is as smooth as butter. My expectations where not all met, though I am sure I will get to love it in time once I put it to work
