Superior Wood Toilet Seat
As the case with many household products today, there are lots of choices for replacing toilet seats. We ordered this one back in 2009, and just replaced it with the newest version, now made in China. We have been delighted with the quality of both. These are not cheap seats, but they are worth it, and they stand far above the seats found in Home Depot and elsewhere. The wood is solid oak, the finish is a high gloss that is easy to clean, and the hinges are also of high quality brushed nickel in the version we ordered. The oak is a little lighter than used to be the case, and also lighter than what the photo on Amazon's site shows. However, the color is close enough to fit well with bathroom trim and cabinets. I should add that the packaging was very solid and protective of the seat, so there should be little risk of damage from shipment.

Seat split along glue line
Bought this back in January for a holiday home and only got around to opening it 4 months later. There is a defect in manufacturing as the seat has split along the glue line. It is still in it's original sealed wrapping and I will contact the manufacturer to see if their 1 year warranty holds up. Otherwise it looks good. Fingers crossed on warranty.

Not a good design
A few years ago I installed some high-end American Standard units (the ones that can flush a bucket of golf balls). They've been great but I've stuggled in finding some nice high quality oak toilet seats for them. The cheap ones from Lowes and Home Depot look OK, but they're thin and not comfortable to sit on. These seats seemed like the answer. I ordered 2 and was initially thrilled when they arrived. They are thick and durable with a laquer finish - very elegant. After installing them, however, 2 serious issues have come to light: 1. On the web page description it says "You just need to tap the seat and it slowly closes". This is FALSE. It was also previously reported in a review from over a year ago (which I didn't read thoroughly apparently) and has not been fixed. 2. The hinges are not aligned properly so the seat actually sits at an angle with the rear "legs" hovering about 1/8" off the toilet bowl rim. This means when you sit on the seat all that weight is being put on the hinge assembly and will likely lead to cracking the wood around the hinges or possibly the toilet bowl around the bolts. Both seats have this same issue so it's not just a one off defect. All of the inexpensive seats I've had over the years always sat flush on the rim and I had no fear of them breaking. I'm going to contact Amazon and/or the manufacturer about this and will likely return the seats. So much for more money equalling better overall quality. EDIT: I contacted the manufacturer and #2 may not be as big of a deal as I thought. After reinstalling the old seats (just for testing) 2 things surfaced: 1 of the seats has no rear legs, and the other does sit slightly off the rim (much less than these new seats, but it's still not flush like I thought). I'm going to keep the seats for now and I've bumped up the stars to OK.

One Nice Seat
I would have to say that toilet seats aren't really my thing, but this seat is well worth a review. We have gone through many an oak wood toilet seat through the years and this particular one is in a class of it's own. As soon as you open the box, you will be impressed with the beautiful, smooth "piano" finish. Some reviews claim this to be cheap looking, while I'm thinking just the opposite. Most of the cheap seats get one thin coat of clear then they are force dried and stuffed in a box. That's why they have a dull, rough finish with the wood grain showing through. Unless the factory has some super duper clear coat I have never seen, in order to get the "slick as glass" finish this seat has, I would assume they probably had to shoot a thick coat of clear, let it dry fully, sand it smooth and shoot it again. The hardware is first rate, and most importantly the bottom of the seat has 4 heavy duty bumpers instead of the 2 chintzy bumpers all the cheap oak seats have. You know how the hinges are always loosening up on the cheap seats? This is why.... The extra bumpers allow the weight to be carried by the bumpers in the rear instead of the hinges. A huge plus for heavy loads. As someone else noted in another review, I also wish the seat was a little longer in the front. It's just a touch too short. It fails to cover about the last 1/4" of my Toto brand bowl. It still looks OK, it's nothing hideous, and it's not anything to worry over, but if not for that I would call it perfect.

Very nice seat
I love this seat. I did have to add rubber bumpers to the bottom to make it stop shifting. It's perfect now

Too Many Disappointments - Do Not Recommend
The media could not be loaded. First off, I ordered this back in October. I waited for a couple weeks and didn't hear anything, so I went looking for my order and couldn't find it at first. I stumbled across it in "Cancelled Orders" -- apparently it had been cancelled by the seller. I found the product again and voila, it was listed but at a higher price. I should have run then, but I didn't want to start over looking. So I placed the order and this time it arrived. All was fine in the packaging, but there were three things I found disappointing. 1) the sheen is ultra high gloss -- like the thick coating that you find on a pub bar. Therefore you lose the impression that it is real oak. I've had oak seats for a couple decades (replacing as they wore out) and I've never seen one like this. May be what some want, but not me and not what I expected. Perhaps I didn't read far enough into the reviews. 2) the finished look is not very clean as the bolt heads are small and don't cover the plastic washers, so you see a ring of white plastic around the bolts heads that don't really seat well into the toilet holes. 3) The hinge is extremely sloppy, causing the seat to wiggle left to right as much as 3/4". Disconcerting when you first sit down. Check out the video. Overall a bad experience from first order through use, but it's in a rental property so I'm leaving it for now.
