sturdiness is not the best
my biggest fear is sturdiness I only have two plant as of now because I am scared it will flip and drop them it swings a bit doesn't seem sturdy so I am in between good and bad.

Love the planter
I really loved my planters, made my porch/balcony look great. They are full of flowers and plants and welcome my visitors to my apartment home.

Good product for the price
Was looking for planter like this. All were $$, found and purchased this as it was cheaper. I am highly satisfied.

BiG FaN of these STURDY flower troughs!
These are a wonderful find, especially for the price. Before ordering these from Amazon I'd gone to my local Home Depot to look for these. I had a bit of sticker shock. So I came home empty handed and decided to check out Amazon. These were about $7.50 less for each one. I read the reviews and decided to try them despite some of the unhappier opinions. I ordered 3 for my back deck, assembled them and then decided that due to my procrastination I'd only fill one. (It was mid July by the time I got around to working with them. I'm a big "get the most bang for your buck" kind of gal.) Now, my mom had a green thumb. Actually, every one of her fingers was green and there wasn't anything she couldn't grow, even living in MA! She loved these window troughs and would fill them with ivy, geraniums, and anything else that suited her at the moment. So I thought I'd do the same. I filled the trough with good potting soil and several plants. When I was done, that trough was so heavy that I was afraid the brackets would snap. The brackets barely hung onto the porch rail. I knew I did something wrong, as mom's never did this. I went to Lowe's this time and looked for what she might have used to fill the trough. When I saw the bag, it rang a strong memory bell! Sphagnum Moss! I called my sisters and pieced together what she did to fill them. Following that pattern I filled my trough 3/4 of the way with Sphagnum Peat Moss. It's very light stuff that retains moisture well. I made an indent (hole, well, etc) for each plant and added about 1 cup of potting soil per plant. After I added the plants I covered them with about an inch of potting soil, added a layer of the Sphagnum then a thin layer of mulch. And the planter was 1/2 the weight, even well watered! It's hanging well and I'm excited to do them all next year. I didn't have to tweek the trough's bracket design or bend the brackets or wire them in place as others have had to do. Hope this helps! A side note... I bought a large bag of plain Sphagnum Peat Moss. Some people may not want that large a bag. The only smaller bag available at both Lowe's and Home Depot was the Miracle Grow Sphagnum Peat Moss. If you choose to use this, just be aware that it contains fertilizer so there's no need to use Miracle Grow on top of this. (I'm a big fan of Miracle Grow!) And a HUGE fan of these troughs! UPDATE: It's now 2021 and these troughs are STILL as sturdy as ever! This will be their 5th summer in the Virginia sun! (Obviously, I use new liners each year.) One of the troughs had an area where the black covering was beginning to separate from the metal underneath. Since it was on the backside, I wrapped it with electrical tape and you can't even tell. Still using sphagnum peat moss as the main filler to keep it light. My neighbor does the same thing thing I do with the sphagnum moss but tops her trough with dried moss (versus mulch) to help keep it light, which I may try this year. I'd love to add my finished troughs but... they're not finished! I wait to hang my troughs til a day or 2 before Mother's Day. Living in SW Virginia, out last frost is usually between the last week of April to May 8th. And because the troughs are suspended, I add a few more days to ensure the flowers will thrive. Wonder if I can get 6 years out of these troughs? Still a BIG fan!

Flimsy
Did not like the brackets for this window box and did not hang straight.

Works fine Not great quality
I have this up on my deck railing and they look very nice. However, as some other reviews indicated they are not great quality and one arrived with one of the slats unglued and had to glue it. I used the advice of one reviewer and put mostly peat moss with added potting soil to reduce the weight. So far, they are holding up and working well, but would not reorder them

Low quality but I'll live with it
I like the product's sustainability, that it doesn't use much plastic (except for the nuts that tighten the bolts), and its looks. Pretty sure that it didn't come with recyclable plastic wrapping, though. And I don't like that it is pretty flimsy and the metal is kind of warped, so that it doesn't fit so great on my railing. One of the plastic nuts even stripped its threads when I tried to tighten it enough to keep the metal claw that grips my railing from slipping, which it does pretty easily. I'm pretty worried that this thing will fall off, to be honest. So, I think you have to really upgrade the nuts on this thing to metal nuts from a hardware store, and I also think it would be very wise to purchase some screws and washers to attach this planter more securely to your railing, as I plan to do. Nevertheless, despite these quality issues, I actually like the look of this planter a lot, and I do appreciate its sustainability. It is cheap compared to other planters for a good reason, though. This isn't exactly high quality stuff. Be prepared to shell out three or four bucks for some better mounting hardware -- then I think you will be satisfied with this product.

Fits Over Deck Railing
After browsing a gazillion of these over-the-railing-type planters, I settled on these. They were fairly easy to install, once you undid all the screws that it came with, which all came attached in such a way that they had to be removed before it would work. I did also cut myself on one plastic piece, which was a bummer, but I survived to write this review. ;) The metal planter part fit over my deck railing using the adjustable screw design, and the planters sit pretty flush to the side, although I've noticed that they do seem to tip a bit forward. I won't know if the metal holds up over time until they've gone through a few seasons, but I do have some concern about the fiber insert, which seems thin and a bit flimsy. Fortunately I've discovered that those can be replaced pretty reasonably. I do like that these will drain after watering, which helps to prevent over-watering and mold. I was able to fit about five mini-petunia plants into each of the two planters I bought, and they look lovely! I also discovered that while these are technically the perfect height for a deer buffet - and petunias are not 100% deer-proof - something about putting my plants into these planters has so far deterred the deer. Bonus!

A little flimsy. But a great cost benefit here!
The metal is very thin which make the whole thing prone to bend a little . But it holds a loth of weight before doing that, and the price is fair. I recommend it for flowers and not very heavy plants! =D

As described. I use to hold teddy bears on wall so not sure how it holds up outside but for my needs it’s great
