Sheds lots of carpet mess but the cat loves it
It's decently made structurally but it sheds carpet pile like mad. Our cat goes nuts scratching it and likes sitting on top.

My cats super love them
It has been a known fact to me that cats love sisal scratching post more than anything else. I have had a standalone post at home but it's worn and the rope unwound. My cats didn't make a big use of it for a long time. Unfortunately my sofa, bed sheet and even window net fell victims. After my tom cat scratched the net badly on a newly install bay window, I decided to look for a solution seriously. I have turned down all possible web researched approaches -- de-claw: it's a bad recipe. It's not only cruel to cats, it also changes their personality. - Soft-claws: sounds promising but takes time to put them on cat's claws. They fall in a few months anyway. They are also expensive. - orange/lemon spay: Cats hate this smell and run away. But they will return. Nothing permanently give off the orange smell around sofa, bed, linens, window nets, etc. If there is it will annoy human beings too. - Sticky paper: Never tried it but can imagine cats will stay away because the feeling of the stickiness is really bad for them. But I can't place these sticky papers everywhere. - Spay of water: This is the easiest method. It's effective at least for the scene. But you need to constantly watch out for cats - how practical is it to keep an eye on cats all the time? Eventually I discovered my own solution - place a sisal post near wherever cats tend to do scratches, by window, bed, sofa, etc. I have witnessed my cats prefer scratches on these posts a lot more often and they rarely attacked my valuables. The only drawback may be that you have to place quite a few of them around the house, and they probably appear not a perfect match to your décor. Personally I'm ok with this and anyone visiting my house should understand that cats' posts are as common as their mobile phones - at least they are not as messy as those cable wires. I haven't had them for long enough to add another star. I'll see how durable the strings turn out to be. But so far they are money well spent (I have purchased and returned a multi layer terrace with many scratching posts at $150 but my cats almost ignored it).

Nicely made, cat likes it
This review is for the angled scratcher. I like that it’s not too big and doesn’t take up too much space, but is still a good size for my cat so she uses it. I’ve tried horizontal scratchers, which she never used, and well as vertical scratchers and finally angled scratchers. She definitely prefers the angled scratcher, but all cats are different so your mileage may vary. This is actually the second one exactly like this I’ve purchased (last one was from a different store but was exactly the same item). It lasted a few years and eventually the rope started fraying and was eventually cut all the way through after a few years (about 3 years) of use, which I consider to be very good lifespan for something that is scratched with very sharp nails on a daily basis. My cat uses it virtually every single day. She gets excited when I come home from work and scratches it extra in her excitement. Mine came with a white pom-pom on the top rather than the 2-tone red/green shown in the picture but that is fine and actually preferred. I will purchase again in another few years if/when the rope on this one eventually wears out. Highly recommend.

A true furniture saver!!!
If you buy scratch posts and your cat still tears up furniture then try this product!!! Learn about your cat! Cats tend to fall solidly into one of two categories: the “horizontal” scratcher or the “vertical” scratcher. But at least 80% of scratch posts for cats are vertical, and those are what most people buy for their precious, furry scissorhand companions. The first two to three years of “Mogi’s” life I tried many different products and gave him every option I could find, yet he still loved to scratch up the furniture as much as any vertical post I gave him. Two years ago I happened across a mirror image of this product at Big Lots and decided to give it a chance. (Full disclosure, I don’t think that first one was a North American Pet scratch post but I am not absolutely certain of that). It turned out to be the miracle I had hoped for! It became his security blanket and his favorite thing in the world to play in, use and scratch, hideout, …everything! I never again had any issues with him scratching the woodwork in the house or the furniture. The issue came about a year and a half later when, after constant use and abuse, the original “scratchy” (as I came to call it) had started to near the end of its life. Not because of bad quality, but because of dedicated use. Since it had come from Big Lots I was not sure where to find a new one just like it, and it turned out to be a massive undertaking to find one just like the original. After two days, and more than 4 hours of searching, I FINALLY came across this product from North American Pet. Thank goodness!!! This “whistle-shaped” scratchy is the one and only that I have found that is exactly like that first one that I bought. I ordered “Mogi” a new one at the beginning of this year, and not a single time have I had to get on him for scratching at anything in the house that he was not supposed to. I am now about to order him a brand new one for Christmas and I am extremely grateful and happy that I saved the link to this product several months ago. It really is one of a kind anymore, and it is a miracle product for my baby. I’m not saying it will work the same for all cats, but if you have purchased several scratch post versions and still have a furniture problem then this is very likely the answer you have been looking for! Give it a try! And… please don’t be a butcher by having a cat declawed! If you have thought about that as an option please read up on how bad it is for them first!

Pretty short but good construction
I was surprised my big house cats like this because it is so short & small. They have to use it a certain way or they start dragging it around the floor. Still they use it. If all the other similar (bigger) items didn't cost so much, I would have bought one of them. But my cats don't seem to care that much. They like this short, small, tilty, well-constructed scratcher.
