Good cover, don't get hung up on sizing...

I needed a cover for the spare tire on my 1998 Toyota RAV4. Although it was a bit confusing to determine the size I needed (from reading reviews), I just measured the diameter of the rear mounted spare tire and went about an inch onto the tread area since so many said the cover wasn't wide enough. It measured 28" so I purchased the 26.75"-29.75" size in black. It was frustrating that the description stated, "Tire sizes are listed on back of package so customers can determine sizing without measuring tires", but there was no view of this. Apparently you would need to order the item to see the package. *note: it seems they may have change the item description page from when I purchased because there's now photos showing what needs to be measured. In any event, I ordered the size stated above and it fit perfectly. There were brief instructions included which explained what the two hooks were for (for reviewers who didn't know what the hooks were for, it really does help to read enclosed materials). It's been on the car for just over a month, there's no problem staying on the tire and looks great. It's been through a few bad rain storms with high winds and there's been no slippage. I can see a potential problem with the cloth interior of cover if it gets wet and doesn't have the opportunity to dry. I just check it and if it's damp I remove it, turn it inside out and let dry in the sun. Overall, I am very happy with this cover. I'll have to see how it holds up in our snowy and icy winters, but it's secure and I don't anticipate problems. This is a good looking cover that was easy to install, has no issues with workmanship, and protects the tire well. The price was great, too. I would have given this 5 stars if the sizing information was clearer or more extensive at the time of purchase.

Works ok and looks good, but RAV4 owners: it's tricky to install!

This cover is inexpensive and fairly well built. I put it on a 2012 RAV4 which had a bare steel spare on the back. If you have a late-model RAV4, note the body-contour plasticwork that Toyota puts around the spare. It looks nice, but it makes installation of this cover quite tricky. Here's how I was able to install it: 1) Get the lug wrench out of the side compartment in the back of your RAV4 2) Note that your spare is mounted to the back door by three lug nuts. Use the lug wrench to completely remove the bottom lug nut, and loose as far as you can (without them coming off) the top two lug nuts. 3) Now you will be able to pull the spare out toward you, and tilt the bottom of the spare out. 4) With the cover angled so that the two hooks are at the top, cover the bottom of the spare with the cover. Make sure the elastic part gets behind the tire 5) Only pull the cover up half way - we still need to put the lug nuts back on! So do that now. Snug them up good so the spare is securely fastened to the back door again. 6) Now pull the sides over the tire, and up to the top. You may need to pull out on the bottom of the cover to get it evenly distributed on the tire. Once you do, the hooks will be at the top. 7) Hook them together, adjust for evenness, and you're done! It was not an easy install, but the end result looks good. My RAV4 is black, so it looks much better on there than the bare spare did. Only drawback is that I would have preferred to have the hook connectors on the bottom, but it would have been even more difficult to put the cover on that way, so I opted to just put the hooks at the top. Hope this helps the RAV4 owners out there!

Should last a few seasons

Just barely fits my 27" spare. One of the plastic retention hooks came off the bungee cord the moment I started stretching the cover over the wheel. The cord then retracted way inside of the cover like a drawstring does on a pair of sweatpants if the knot comes loose. It took almost 30 minutes to slowly and carefully thread the cord back through its channel and out into the open so I could reattach it to the hook. The knots that were used at the factory were far too simple and flimsy to hold the cord, so I untied them and made a figure 8 knot that can't slip back through the hole. I would therefore HIGHLY recommend that you do the same BEFORE trying to place this cover on your tire. Untie the knots from the hooks, thread the bungee cord through the hole and tie a simple figure 8 knot in the end of the cord. The resulting wad of a knot will then be too big to slip off of the hook and disappear into the cover. Aside from that design flaw (which is really less of a flaw in the design itself and more of a flaw in the execution), it seems relatively hefty and should survive for at least a few hail seasons here in Colorado. Once it finally shreds or succumbs to the intense UV radiation we get here in the summer, I'll just buy another (and fix the knot before I try to use it). One other note: If your tire fits flush up against the wall of your camper, as mine does, it will be a little difficult to get this cover around the back of the tire enough to keep it from coming off. You may have to keep repositioning the cover until it gets around the back of the tire enough to stay in place. It's really a better cover for a spare that sits well away from the vehicle, with easy access to the rear of the tire.

Lasted 3 years the test of time

The cover lasted less than 3 years (32 months) before the vinyl that was mostly exposed to the UV rays became brittle and cracked. I live in southern BC Canada so it's not like a review from Arizona. The ad claims UV resistance. I will let you think on that one. The concealed bungie cord strap and plastic hooks holds the cover on securely so no issue there. Fit was good I bought the small size. I parked my vehicle outdoors 24/7 so if you park indoors perhaps the cover will likely last longer. Maybe if you use a vinyl protectant spray every so often this cover will last longer. I didn't use anything. The manufacture has a three year warranty I will see if they are good for it.

Nice large tire cover

Needed a tire cover for my fj cruiser with the larger 265 70 r17 wheels, I could not find a unit that was this large locally, so I asked about the large size fitting this wheel and I got 2 responses in questions. It arrived quickly and it fit very snug and I knew it would be close! , it stretched slightly in the next few days so it is now tight as a drum. Thanks to the people who responded to my request. I am glad I found a good tire cover that was this size. The cover looks great!

Good value

Went on easy. The tire cover fit fairly well but slightly large so appearance was wrinkly. This possibly could ease after vinyl warms and installed for awhile. Overall great price.

Quality material, excellent fit

Quality vinyl. Stays flexible in all but the coldest weather. Roomy fit with good quality elastic cinching. Stays put at highway speeds without puffing out or flapping at highway speeds.
