Nice pocket watch - excellent gift!
The pictures make this look a little too "shinny" and almost "fake" in real life the gold tone and design is much more handsome for sure. I purchased this for my 7 year old son to teach him about timepieces and how to tell the time on an analog watch (and a little about how to respect and care for things). I wasn't expecting to find such a nice timepiece but have been really impressed I think I'll buy once (perhaps one in silver and gold). I'm not too sure what the reserve time is but would expect it to be less than a day but who knows perhaps one could go longer without winding it. The plating seems to be of nice quality and is polished to a nice sheen. The double "hunter" covers are what he wanted and both open with a consecutive push of the crown. For less than half this watch's cost I'd imagine you could get a real basic manual watch but would also end up with a gaudy/ugly watch - this one is very nice looking and tasteful. I doubt that this will ever become an heirloom but would make a nice statement compared to a $20 timex wristwatch or no watch at all - which seems to be the trend with cell phones receiving time off network. At the price I'd say this is a "buy" for sure. You may be able to find a 100 year old watch for about double this one's cost but it would probably require work to get it or keep it going - this piece may lack a bit of the antique's "charm" or "history" but you'll actually get to use this one (not continually be back at the watch shop) and also not feel guilty about putting it in your pocket day after day.

Not great but works for now.
More than anything know this, the crystal is PLASTIC. In the description I believe it is referred to as being “mineral crystal” or something equally non-descriptive. Don’t be fooled. It’s just plain ol’ run of the mill plastic.

A Classic Timepiece crafted with care and detail...
As a young boy I remember admiring the pocket watch my father had. It was European made in pewter and gold with great care to detail. This Charles-Hubert watch is crafted in that same spirit. The mechanism is held in an elogant gold casing with traditional roman numerals on the clock face. It has watch covers on the front and back - both of which are beatifully accented with a spiral reveal that is hard to take your eyes off of. The front face gives you a glimpse of the moving clock parts but you can see almost the entire movement through the back face. Over the years I have owned three pocket watches and looked at hundreds more via on-line sites and retail stores. This watch has by far the nicest appearance and best quality for the money. I have liked showing my grandson how to tell analog time with the watch - a lost art amongst young people in a growing digital age. We have enjoyed the classic look and feel of this timepiece and agreed he will inherit the watch. Along with the hour/minute hands is a seconds sweep hand. The time is easily set by pulling up on the stem ( I still meet people today who have no idea how to set the time on an analog timepiece). This would make a wonderful gift for a young man or that person in your life who has an eye for detail and a love of craftsmanship. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

so far very good
I ordered the watch as my first pocket watch. Im using it as a first piece to see if I want to invest in an antique one. So far I'm pretty happy with the watch. Its a pretty good size (I think about the diameter of a golf ball) and feels decently heavy. The watch looks nice in person. The only downside so far is that the hands are a bit hard to read from a distance against the skeleton background, but I guess thats the price you pay for the nice aesthetics. It didn't seem to keep accurate time at first but I think I didn't push the crown back into place after setting the time. After I reset it and made sure the crown was in all the way its been running perfect for a few hours so far. If the accuracy keeps up then I'd say its a pretty good buy...

Absolutely stunning
I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my suitor. When it arrived I inspected it, and was amazed at the sheer beauty of every single detail. The works are magnificent to view, the heft of the weight is marvelous, the colour, the face.... I rather adore this watch, to the point that it would've been a shame to give it to anyone other than the object of my affections! In addition to the sheer elegance of the product, the packaging was excellent as well. The box and pouch for the watch are very nice, and the chain is excellent so far. He hasn't been able to carry it around as much yet, so I do not know how it will hold up to wear, but I expect it to stand the test of time.

Looks nice, but does it work?
I bought this watch with the expectation that it would keep accurate time. i followed the instructions enclosed, which were minimal, and set the watch for the current time. i wound it 25 half-winds (instructions say 30 to 50 and warned not to overwind)n, checked it several times during the day.and it was reasonably accurate. However, by evening, it had stopped running. My question is whether it needs winding twice a day, or should i wind it more at the beginning of each day? i am going to experiment by increasing the winds a few each day until it runs a full 24 hours. If that doesn't fix the problem, i am returning it and will resume using my $18.00 wrist watch which keeps perfect time.

Beautiful decorative timepiece .
This is beautiful decorative timepiece but not the greatest at keeping accurate time. The first one I received lost almost 10 minutes every 8 hours. I returned it for a replacement and the new one loses about 3 minutes every 24 hours.
