Nice sprayer - get ready to remove and re-rig straps before use
We finally gave up on our hand held 2Gal sprayers and went with this one. Appears to be nicely constructed, and the manual details rebuilding steps as well as a parts list - so even if it breaks you'll be able to service it. I know it's petty, but I reduced this by one star because of the straps. Not because they are uncomfortable - they were attached COMPLETELY wrong. I spent half an hour trying to figure out what *I* was doing wrong since I figured there was no way something from the factory would be set up incorrectly. This one was. Be prepared to remove the straps from the various clips/etc and re-rig this when you get it. Set the sprayer on a table right side up with the shoulder strap connectors on the top of the tank closest to you (you should NOT be able to read 'Chapin') on the tank. The shoulder pads have a 'plain' side and a side with the strap sewn to the face. The PLAIN side should be facing the tank, the strap side faces towards you. Each shoulder strap has a couple of curves. From the top down, the first set of curves should be to the OUTSIDE edge of the sprayer. They should look like THIS: ( ). The second set of curves face INWARD. They should look like THIS: ) ( You know it is correct when the chest strap can go between the 2 shoulder straps and not twist anything. Next, look at the LUMBAR support. It has a flat edge and a curved edge. The curve faces UP. It too has a plain side and a side with straps sewn to it. in this case the PLAIN side is the side that will face you. Each side has a plastic clip. That clip attaches to the metal stand, just under the main pump rod. Clip them on so that they twist the least. If you disconnected the shoulder straps from the lumbar support, re-attach them without twists. NOW you can put it on. Put an arm from the middle of the tank through the shoulder strap. Grab the other side and put your arm through. It's just like a coat. Adjust the shoulder straps to carry the tank where it is comfortable on your back, then attach the chest strap from one side to the other. Adjust it so the shoulder straps don't wander around. Now grab the belt strap and wrap around your waist and attach it to the other side. Adjust as needed for a comfortable fit.

I have had no incidents such as the unit leaking or dripping fluid on the back of my legs like some of the reviews have mentione
Hello, I have had no incidents such as the unit leaking or dripping fluid on the back of my legs like some of the reviews have mentioned. I am new to using this style of pack but the instructions for assemble were very easy to follow. The handle pump can be easily assembled on the left or the right. I assembled on the left since the spray wand just feels more natural in my right hand The pack is not that heavy when full but it makes it alot easier to deal with if the pack is filled on a table or tailgate. I have an acre of property and weeds are throughout. I first used a ratio of 4 gallons of water to a 4 oz mixture of round up concentrate and only sprayed in a test area, while only mixing about 20 gallons of water & 20 oz of concentrate ( basically 4oz of solution to 4 gallons of water times 5 ). Although this is probably the weakest ratio I found it gets the job done in a guarantee 7 day window time frame. Since then I have upped the concentrate ratio to 8oz to 4 gallons of water and have improved my window time frame from 7 days to as little a 4 days. Now I know this sounds amazing and your thinking to yourself yeah but what type of weeds did he encounter. I have many types on my property everything from ragweed to dandelion to crabgrass to as stubborn as the Goathead thorn and many others not sure what there names are. With the lower concentrate solution I noticed a difference in as little as 2 days. The weeds were standing tall and proud before I sprayed them. In as little as 2 days I noticed the sag and drop of the most tallest stem. By the 3-4 day the weeds seemed to shrink in size and the brown color was starting to settle in. By day 5 all were sagging and looked smaller than normal. By day 6 all weeds were a distinctive brown color but some still had a little life left in them the outside was brown in color while the inside of the stem was still slightly green. By day 7 all weeds were brown and would almost crumble in your hand. Perfect for burning with a torch. As mentioned before I did a little tweaking of the concentrate formula to try to get the best results. While still using a 4 gallons of water to now 8oz of concentrate I noticed a significant difference. In as little as four days the weeds were ready for burning. I live in Arizona were it doesn't rain that often. Although this year we are seeing a significant down pour compared to previous years. My little experiment was done under a window of 7 days because it hadn't rained in that time frame. We then got some more rain and then another 6 day window of no rain that I tested the second method out on. By the first day the weeds had a sagging way about them. By day 2-3 that golden brown color had set in and by day 4 the weeds were ready to burn. I love my chapman backpack and would recommend this to those of you still using the handheld 1 gallon unit. I can now mix up to 4 gallons of solution and the pressure gauge gives me a continued steady spray. I hope this post helps you find what you are looking for.

An Upgrade
As promised, here is the actual review of the sprayer's performance: great! Very smooth and easy to pump. Can get some serious pressure going, which made for a very fine spray that was easy to direct and seemed to wet the surfaces very well. Still holding out a "star" in the rating for the laziness on the part of the manufacturer, which results in a completely avoidable hassle-factor for the purchaser/user. Perhaps the CEO's otherwise-unemployable nephew calculated that by NOT fully attaching the harness to the sprayer/frame they could save 25.7 cents per unit in labor costs? IDK, but it is really annoying when the product comes NOT FULLY ASSEMBLED. Dudes! Step up! Doing your best is a moral imperative. Right?

I thought this was a good sprayer for my needs (2/3 acre lot)
I was reluctant to support Chapin a second time as my last sprayer (a pro model) was disappointing. However, I couldn't find a better value sprayer for my needs (2/3 acre lot). First time use... this sprayer is easy to use, so much easier than the regular hand sprayers. It sits comfortably on my back, and pumps easily without any loss of pressure. The straps required re-alignment, however that was minimal. I tried the 21 psi CF valve might be best served with a lower output spray valve, we will see. Update after a few uses. I find the 21 CF valve too much pressure to maintain, going back to original nozzle or perhaps try the 14 psi yellow CF valve. The harness strap that attaches to the base constantly comes off when loading the pack, very annoying as when this happens you must take the pack off re-connect and lift to your back once again. The pump grip on mine is already slipping, works its way off the tube, again annoying as you must stop, push it on and restart. Update Jun 18, I ordered a 14 CF Valve, I prefer this over the 21PSI, easier to keep pumped up, and consistent flow at spray end. Low cost extra. One disappointment though is the angled spray end stripped its threads on the metal wand. I will have to look for a replacement - somewhat understandable as you are using nylon against metal threads. Not nice when the unit is only 2 months old. I will send Chapin a note.

Don’t ask me any questions....& I won’t tell you any lies!
I have used this unit for a month now. Used my old one for 4 years that cost me 30bucks.....the pump was giving me issues lately, so bought this based on reviews. I am 6’2”& 210lbs.....my complaints are.... it is very uncomfortable to wear because of the shape of the tank & the strapping is not adjustable enough. The hose from the tank to handle needs to be one foot longer The wand, from control to spray end needs to be one foot longer The pump handle is not in the correct position so it only allows a partial pressure stroke! My “El Cheepo” unit had a handle that had an octagon shape for both the handle & pump making it VERY adjustable....this unit has one configuration only to mount the pump handle & it does not work for someone of my stature! My final say is that the pump had better last 20 years or I will rate this as a POS!

Pump Arm Shear off
-UPDATE- was sent replacement arms for all pumps, amazing and fast customer service. Great company These are amazing pumps, we have been using several of them for professional lawn care applications. Then grips on all of them have stayed put, the pressure has been great, the backpack harness is very comfortable for all day wear. 4 of them have become unusable since having the handle shear at the same spot. like clockwork one after another after about the same amount of use the handles have broken in the same spot. This is a common problem with other sprayers we have used, though these are by far the longest lasting. I have not sent in a warranty claim yet but would update this to 5 stars if this issue was resolved.

Great spray pattern
I have just received and used this sprayer once so I cant comment on longevity. I have had a hand held sprayer for years and this one is just tops compared to it. It has a great spray pattern and also puts the chemicals down so everything gets soaked instead of just misted. I would recommend this unit. It is a little heavy to put on the back but a simple solution if you find this is just load up less chemicals in it
