the best media
I have about 8 gallons in my 200 gallon mixed reef. I have over 23 fish, i feed 3-5 times a day. This stuff controls the excess nutrients and algae has stopped growing in the main display. DO NOT BE CHEAP, BUY AS MUCH AS YOUR SYSTEM CAN HANDLE. still got algae? Your main display is consuming more nutrients than your filter, simple as that.

Okay MarinePure...lets see if you have what it takes!!!
Okay, bought this media because the very few videos and reviews I have found available on the Web made it sound like this media is the filter media God would use if he was an aquarist. I do like the fact you can buy large blocks(that could be cut to size) of this material and cubes too. This has already got my imagination in overdrive of all the possible custom uses for this material especially in Marine Reef sump setups. I will update this review several times and adjust rating accordingly. To start this media is going into a Fluval fx6 filtering a ridiculously overstocked tank. I am going to use only one media tray to contain the MarinePure. It's big stuff. 1.5" per sphere. I don't know why they felt it had to be so large bur I have my suspicions that they did so because this material is like INSANELY porus. As in I took one of the balls that did not make it into the filter and blew air through it with my mouth and was really "blown" away (blown...blew....get it?.......whatever) about how much water this sphere retained after sitting around 3 days after rinsing. If you live in an area prone to power outage I do not think you would ever have to worry about your BB bacteria population suffering even the slightest from the media drying out. BUT... with that being said it would be very hard for a material this VERY porus to develop an Anaerobic(oxygen depleted) environment for Anaerobic bacteria populations to proliferate at the medias(spheres) center. So turning Ammonia into Nitrite and Nitrite into Nitrate I see no problem whatsoever.....BUT....and that is one big BUT....if it does an absolute terrible job at the far more difficult task of reducing Nitrates, then I predict a lot more water changes in my future! YUCK!!!!! So back to my suspicions......I am thinking they made the spheres huge to counteract some of that insane porosity and to help encourage an Anaerobic environment deep within the sphere to facilitate Nitrate reduction. Only thing I can think of...so I will throw it at the wall and see if it sticks. So that's what I have for you so far. I added a little of my old media to give the MarinePure a head start on bacterial colonization other than that this stuff is on its own. Only time will tell now. OOPS Guess I should mention... I will also be using Microbe-Lit products to shorten proper cycling time by many weeks. Read my review about Microbe-Lift. This companies stuff is worth twice what you pay for it as well as all their products work.

They Work
These are great! I have seen some people say that they COMPLETELY break down into small particles or are a threat to ruin aquarium equipment, this has not been the case for me. Of course overtime there will be pieces that break off (as it is ceramic) but they fall right to the bottom and can be siphoned out easily. I have had 2 "gallons" worth in the "chaeto" section of my sump of my 140 gallon reef tank for over 2 years. My ammonia, nitrate and nitrite is 0 and has never raised above 0 on any tests. I do perform weekly 10% water changes religiously and do only have 9 medium-large size fish in my system but I feed like crazy both the corals and my fish. Obviously they work in conversion of Ammonia. I can't sit here and say I'm a marine biologist and blast the product but from a long time reefer with long time perfect parameters I can tell you these work well. Add these while taking the time to maintain your tank with filter pad/water changes and you can run a successful aquarium.

These are the best bio media
These are awesome, and they actually lower my nitrates. This is the only bio media I will use now

Definitely an upgrade on plastic bioballs.
Nitrate/Nitrite/Ammonia have been at an undetectable 0 since using these but I will say I used considerably more than needed for my 185g. Phosphate has not seen any decrease from these, in my experience, but I also have a lot of tangs I feed seaweed to daily. I scattered these around in empty space in my overflows and sump, they hold up well and haven't deteriorated after more tha a year and are all just big enough that you don't have to worry about them getting stuck in most places or pumps - they do clog if used without a filter sock in between them and the flow, however they unclog in just a second by simply holding them in a bucket of used tank water and shaking/swishing them around one-by-one (when I'm doing a water change) - it takes about 20 minutes to do this with 2 boxes and I do it about 2x a year but otherwise they are easy and maintainence free.

Best Addition to my Reef
I would have to say that these work as advertised. I have read that you cannot have too much bio-filtration and I use this model in my reef tank. I have the spheres in my last compartment with the return pump and the MarinePure large cube in the first chamber. I have 0 nitrates and 0 phosphates and all I do is bi-weekly water changes. I have taken my GFO and carbon offline. I also am using the middle chamber as a refugium, but I think this is competing the nuisance algae as well. My tank is much healthier overall since about 6-8 weeks after adding all of the MarinePure into my system. I can't necessarily explain just how, but everything about my system appears healthier from the fish to the corals. I finally have one of "those" tanks that I think is beginning to look like the ones on so many forums.

AMAZING!
This filter media is absolutely amazing! It works sooooooo much better than regular bio-balls, some people may think that it’s expensive, but this media has much more surface area than other types of media, I have one marine pure block and one box of sphere and some bio-balls in my 300 gallon tank, the tank was heavily loaded, before I add in the block and the shpere, the water was always a little cloudy, after I add those in, the water cleared overnight. Personally I think the block works better than the shpere, because the block can help to reduce nitrate, it won’t eliminate nitrate, but at least you don’t have to do water changes that often, nitrate won’t be ridiculously high between water changes(you still need to do water changes, at least once every two weeks)
