American made quality.

The Century brand is well known for its quality. Made in Green Bay, WI. I just used this today to tap a pre-drilled hole on my Benelli M4 shotgun. It cut nice clean threads. I used thread cutting oil (of course). Highly recommended!

Worked well for me!

Needed the tap to repair a goof up. The tap worked well with some cutting oil and repaired the threads nicely inside a shaft. Only needed it once, but the tap and a new bolt saved me lots of money.

Superior Japanese Tap!

In my experience, tooling made in Japan FAR EXCEED the quality and durability of those from India, China, and even Taiwan. Price for Century's tooling is composable to those with "USA" in their name but offer a Value line import product. I have moved Century Drill & Tool to the top of my list.

Used to clean up some existing threads, it did that and a little more by tapping a bit deeper. It felt sturdy.

Purchased As A Replacement

I'm a professional Mechanic (retired) I don't like incomplete or damaged tool sets and replace items as needed. If you don't do that, in a short amount of time you have junk.

Much better than expected

I bought this tap almost 5 years ago, but Amazon recently suggested it to me. So here's an update: My original tap is still working fine, and I still recommend it. However I do not recommend you order this only with a boxed set of DVDs because then everything may be shipped in a cardboard box that contains 2 rectangular holes (for your convenience) large enough to let the tap and its packaging slip out, as happened with my shipment. Amazon quickly replaced the missing product, but then for about a month they kept asking me to return the one I never received. My original review from 2013: Due to the low price of this product, I was expecting something made in China, but instead I received a product made in Japan, and it's much more like my US-made taps instead of the few Chinese ones I bought at a certain freight place down at the harbor. The steel is noticeably harder. I needed this tap to remove a stuck Moen faucet cartridge, and the much more expensive "professional" removal tool rarely works for this. Pull out the inner part of the cartridge, then use the tap to cut into the remaining part, and insert a 2" length of 3/8" - 7/16" wooden dowel. Screw in a 1/2" - 13 bolt (safest to get grade 5) to push against the dowel to pull the cartridge out.

Is what it is and it works

It is a tap, and it taps aluminum plate and cleans steel lugs well. Can't say how it would stand up against thick steel in a press, but then I would expect to pay alot more to expect it to do well.

Mislabeled part!

DOUBLE CHECK YOUR TAPS BEFORE USING THEM! Ordered 9/16-12, tapped a hole and went to install insert but it didn't line up. Went back to check packaging. Label says 9/16-12 but part says 9/16-18!!! Quality control fail.
