Good fermentation nutrition

Essential nutrients for a balanced mead
Mead is a finicky fermenting drink. Honey and water is notoriously lacking in nutrients that are essential for yeast, including nitrogen and phosphate. As a results, yeast can become stress and output unpleasant flavors and fusel alcohols, which taste like you'd imagine jet fuel to taste like. Fermaid O seeks to remedy this by providing the proper nutrients for happy yeast. A few tips... 1) I add a few grams at yeast pitch into the must. This allows the yeast enough nutrition to get started. 2) For even fermenting and happy yeast, common recommendations are to have a "staggered" nutrient addition schedule. I like to add complementary nutrients -- diammonium phosphate (DAP) and Fermaid K -- at the 24, 48, and 72 hour mark. This, when paired with Fermaid O, allows for steady fermentation and a reduced likelihood of bad or "off" flavors. 3) Fermaid O is a little different than Fermaid K. It is an organic source of nutrients, rather than chemical. Overall, I think Fermaid O is necessary for making top-tier meads. I would recommend it for intermediate mead makers.

Seems to work
Survived the trip and seems to do its job. I wish it came in some sort of resealable packaging though.

Used for mead making
I use this for making mead and helping the ferment. The local shops stopped carrying it (and Fermaid K) because folks around my area are more into making beer than wine / mead. So I was happy to find it on Amazon. No issues. Item worked well. I weighed the package and verified the quantity was correct. Would buy again.

Keep Away From Cats
This arrived just fine, in a tearable bag inside a resealable bag. I left it on the counter overnight, and my cat destroyed it before I put it away properly. Learn from my mistake and keep this out of reach of your cats when it arrives. Apparently they can smell it through the double bags, unlike me. As to the product itself, I can't say yet. I've used Fermaid K before to great effect, and wanted to try this with TOSNA. The color and consistency is as shown in thr picture, with directions on the bag that support what I've learned elsewhere. In a few months I may know how this works out compared to my other meads, but that will have to wait for my new bag to arrive (which I will protect from the cat!)
