A last ditch effort for an escape artist
Apologies for the very long review. Below you'll find a story of our trials with our dog and a bit of his story. I hope this serves as a kind reminder to owners looking for a solution to a "runner" that there is hope and to keep at it. With regards to the product, this is a top quality item and I've paired it with BV Pet BV-PE-STAKE-L Steel Dome Tie Out Stake For Large Dogs. ---- We adopted the most kind and obedient pup I've ever met almost six months ago now. His name is Kahn, and he's a 100lb Akbash. Originally purchased from a breeder, he cost his original owners $1,500, so because they gave him up at 14 months tells you just how bad his running habits are. Anyway, queue us adopting him because we do kitten fostering for the local humane society and they knew we had a dog pass of cancer a few months earlier that broke our hearts. Obviously we have to have a special kind of dog that works well with our fostering, and our foster contact knew this was the guy. They actually wanted to keep him at the shelter as a mediator dog because he would break up fights and in general just kept the other dogs in line. But, Kahn had other plans. Even his first home, a 40-acre mini ranch where he was being trained as a livestock guardian (what Akbash are bred for in Eastern Europe), he didn't have enough room to roam. He was hurting himself on the kennel fences, cutting up his muzzle and paws on the chain-link. So, of course we had to give this big guy a shot. We knew it wasn't going to be easy. We fostered him for a month, and in that time he escaped at least 20 times. He chewed through door frames, tore off handles, jumps our 6-foot cedar fence like it's a minor annoyance, and all the while I fell in love with him. But, we needed a solution for him. I was starting to get overwrought with fear he was going to get hit by a car, someone would steal him, or I was going to die of a heart attack. Behavioral issues aside -- he has severe separation anxiety -- we've been working closely with the humane society to find the right medication, training, and exercise for him, we still needed to take him out to potty without needing a leash every time. I could tell he was getting tired of that, and so were we. A stake and cable was our solution, and try as he might, he just can't pull this thing out of the ground. It's been about three months now and I think he quite likes the freedom the stake gives him. We don't have to watch him closely every time we let him in the backyard, I can have him in the garage with me when working on projects because his stake is near the door, and he's only gotten tangled up in it once.

Works well with my 110 lb German Shepard 4 year old!
So far this tie out cable has worked really well for my 110 pound German Shepard! I have had it a few weeks now and I wanted to wait to write a review because I wanted to be sure there were no product issues. I have had no issues and it’s sturdy and does not get all knotted up like the much thinner tie-out cable we purchase from the store for our pit bull who is half my GSD’s size. I am outside in the front yard working while I put him on this cable, I don’t leave him unattended just because. I also clip it to his harness so it won’t choke him. He is not very friendly to dogs he doesn’t know or some strangers and I feel completely okay having him on this cable because I really don’t think he will break it, trying to get at anything he feels is a threat. It’s pretty long so he can lay in the grass or stay in the garage on the couch. I added a thick carabiner to the end so I can loop it through and attach it to the loop in the cable just for my sanity. The clips on the end seem pretty strong but my baby is very very strong so the carabiner gives me peace of mind. He is older and hasn’t tried to chew through it, he doesn’t do that anymore he’s 4 now, he only chews on his squeaky toys and tennis balls. The price was much cheaper than any in the box stores so that of course is why I pretty much use Amazon for stuff like this. It came within one day with Prime as well. I tie it around a tree in the yard and double it up too because it’s long enough to do that and still give him room to play. It’s well made and I feel like we will get a decent amount of time out of this purchase. But I tie it always to his harness not a collar, I definitely recommend that. I also bring it inside when it’s not in use so it won’t rust but I did accidentally leave it outside and it wasn’t rusty at all. Anyway give it a try!

Great Tie Out
Keeps my German Shepherd secure while we are camping. She likes to chase squirrels and this is strong enough to hold her while still giving her the freedom to move around.

Great little cable
I've enjoyed using this cable. I was a little worried that it would be too thin for my strong husky-lab, but it's totally been up to the task. It's lightweight but strong. Small and portable compared to other cables. Would recommend.

Made well, but need to watch pet!
I used these for camping. I liked that these were durable. I have a small pitbull mix (35lbs) but she is very strong! I looped the cord around a sturdy tree branch and her collar. My dog also likes to chew her leash. She tried that on this but wasn't able to chew through it. I would NOT recommend leaving any pet unattended with this. I would recommend it using harness with cord attaching to a spot on the dogs' back. She does have some irration where her collar is from pulling on the cord. I know better next time! *Keep location in mind...There were lots of small bushes where we were camping and unfortunately she kept getting tangled and needed help. Again I wouldn't recommend leaving pet unattended. I wish I would have went with a shorter cord (either 10ft or 15 ft). The 25ft would have probably been better at a different location where she didn't have obstacles to get tangled in.

Good Dog Cables For The Bucks
I never trust dog leashes or cables, having had several break over my lifetime with a pet running loose in the yard. So I now use two at a time, and these are perfect, light weight enough that they don't weigh down my 22 pound dog, so I can tie him out for a few minutes for his "business", giving him some freedom and I don't have to worry about his safety. And they are lightweight enough for me to pull them back up onto the porch when he comes back in the house. Just ordered a second set to use in the back yard. Great value for the money, and if you worry about safety, you can try the double method. It works.

What a sturdy cable this is !!! (edit: removed 1 star)
Its so strong that it could prove to be harmful or even fatal if not supervised ! Therefore, supervision is required at all times and caution is strongly advised ! (edit: removed 1 star) The reason: The clip-on hooks at the end of the cable have started to rust after being exposed to just 3 rains in the past few days. Disappointed to know that the hooks are not rust-proof, considering this is a "Tie-Out" cable, that is intended to be used outdoors, and it has been just one week since i have bought this product. These hooks totally contradict the amazing quality of the cable, therefore if i had to suggest, i would ask of amazon to replace these cheap quality hooks with rust proofed ones. Meanwhile, ill just try to find a way to remove them and replace them with some heavy duty rust proof carabiner hooks.

excellent
I have a 10 month old Rottweiler who is extremely active and very strong!. We needed something so she had a bit of freedom around the caravan when we went on holiday this year.. The lead is a good long length and we found she could go way past the road outside our van so we looped it around the bowl of the toilet and so she had freedom inside and outside the caravan and this way the lead reached just to the very edge of the road outside but not far enough for her to get into the road which was perfect! haha. She is a bit of a chewer and did try a couple of times but with no success so very relieved on that front she could not escape to meet the neighbours.. I can highly recommend this lead, if it holds my dog it'l hold most if not all other dogs in my opinion. great price and arrived quickly and adequately packaged in a bag. The pics are of when we first arrived and as you can see she is soo not impressed with not being able to escape lol, the first one shows her with her usual lead attached to the tie cable but we realised we didn't need this due to the tie being so long. Excellent.

Amazing Buy
This is exactly what you need if you want to let you pet play out in the an open garden. Its long enough to allow him/her to move around, play and look for those strange places they keep sniffing. The cable is strong, very strong, very very strong atleast for my beagle who finally gave up on breaking it and chewing it. Verdict - Must buy. Philosophy - “we all are tied to some invisible tie-out cable like this, but unlike this one, we can break it and move farther, only if we want to”

Durability Issues
This dog leash seemed like good quality, but did not survive Canadian winter. Where the tie-out was outside, the plastic around the internal cable came off in many places and the cable rusted. Last week (we’ve used it for 4 months), the dog ran to the end of the lead and it snapped completely as you can see. Decent for the price, but the durability quality is very poor.

Great product, but BE AWARE OF THIS!!!
This product is really great, however, we've encountered a problem that we didn't anticipate. We live in the foothills of Alberta, so naturally we get some very cold weather and very deep snow. We strung one cable high up between two trees, then used the other as a line between our dog and the suspended cable. It allows our dog to explore a very large area of the backyard. However, as winter has started we noticed that the plastic coating on the cable began cracking in a few places. As the cracks widened and exposed the wire, our dog's fur began tangling and sticking to the cable. It was very painful for him as we had to cut his fur off of the cable. So, this is perfect for nicer weather, but we need to find something else for the winter.
