Sturdy

Better than playing cards.

Better than homemade.

I bought these to replace my homemade playing card tablets. Mine are wafer thin and tend to dog-ear easily with heavy use and I was ready to try something else. These are definitely heavier than playing cards, but not by much! They are nice and slippery since they have a plastic laminated finish and are nice and smooth. I would have liked them numbered, but that's fine, I can # them myself. Same goes for color coding the edges so I can see easily if any cards have slipped out of position. That was easy too by griping the pack and using a bright colored Sharpie pen on the edges (careful to let them dry before handling the deck.) The next set will be wooden, like the period Viking weavers used.

Not what I expected...

But this is not a bad thing. These are smaller than the cards I got with my tablet weaving book and thinner but feel reasonably sturdy for as thin as they are. These will travel better with a belt loom in a small drawstring bag. That is a portability plus. The thickness is a bit more than a playing card from a good Bicycle card deck and a bit stiffer than a fresh card. Both sides are smooth. The edges are slightly fuzzy. Well marked in the corners. I'll need to use them to see how they behave. If these perform well, I may just have to get myself another 2 packs of these.

Sturdy yet flexible

I am very pleased with these smaller-sized plastic cards for my tablet weaving. They are sturdy but also flexible, and perfect if you're working on a design which requires cards to be flipped on the vertical axis. The only drawback is that the plastic will not retain permanent-marker ink on the edges for any length of time. I prefer to mark the A/D edge for a quick reference to "home" position. That said, I simply re-mark then after each project is completed.

The Best

The Lacis tablets are the best I have found. they are Light weight, very thin, and easy to turn. The only thing that is not positive is that some permanent markers, and in particular orange will rub off of warp threads. Non clorine bleach will take off the tablets, but did not remove it entirely from a white merserized cotton warp. I haven't tried the blue range. The tablets are awesome in themselves, I own 150 of them. I would recommend them to long time tablet weavers as well as novices. They are sure to please every present time weaver.

count your cards

I like the small size and center hole for helping to secure them when you release tension from the loom. However, one of my packs was short on cards. So if you are cutting it close on how many you need, order an extra pack!

I used to make my own weaving cards out of "upcycled" gift cards, but after killing two hole punchers I decided it would be worth it to break down and order some. These are slightly larger than what I would have made, and square instead of the rectangular ones I would have made.
