11 years going strong
Almost exactly eleven years ago I bought this in anticipation of an upcoming surgery. It's worked amazingly well for me. Well, here I am again, buying the same exact grabber for yet another upcoming surgery. What happened to the old one? My husband stole it. He figured out that this was the perfect piece of equipment for fetching the pencil that rolled under his workbench. And for gently placing rodent traps in hard-to-reach areas. And (lately) for snake wrangling. I've given up. I'm never getting my grabber back. (Honestly, after all the things it's been through, I really don't think I want that one back. lol) This little gadget wasn't just helpful post-op. Turned out that this was the thing I'd been missing all of my short life. I pulled light vases off the top shelf in the kitchen, fetched a knife that had fallen off the hanger behind the range, fetched a book off the high shelf in my library, and a thousand and one other little tasks. I loved this thing. I did purchase another brand after my husband stole mine last year, but it didn't work half as well. Turns out that one is not as good as any other. Ignore the wonky picture. It's longer and works amazingly well. (I gave it one star for 'suction' because it has never suctioned. It doesn't have to. The tips of the cups can pick up a dime off the floor - yes, I actually did that as a test - and it doesn't need any kind of suction to do any of it. The cups hold fast with friction alone.)

Very sturdy and light weight
This is the first reacher grabber I had and I found it to be most helpful in reaching items on the middle shelf of my cabinets. I can pick up just about everything (coins ,keys, etc). I also liked the swivel feature and the suction cup tips and the locking feature .

Received the Wrong Size; Limited Use
I ordered the 32" grabber to replace one that had a cracked wrist guard. I didn't measure it or even the one I received until today. All I knew was that it is far too short to help with my laundry, which is why I bought it. I figured I must have ordered the wrong size, so I would go back and order the right one later. Today when I was on Amazon.com, I checked to see what I had ordered so I could correct my "mistake." It turns out I did order the one I wanted. So I measured both of the reachers today. The old was 32 inches long. The new one was not even 24 inches--it was about 22 inches. I think you'd have to fudge a lot to get 24 inches out of it, and that's the other size of this reacher. I don't know if I will get the right one if I order it again, so I'll probably look for a new seller. I could not have returned it anyway; it was in a box that was so big it broke open with the reacher and a light duster in it. I have used the old one and just left the wrist guard open to prevent cutting my palm. I have had great luck with the old one. Yes it did freeze closed at times, but a little pressure caused it to open, and then it continued to work. It is strong enough to transfer laundry from the basket to washer and dryer.

Not near as good as they used to be!
I have used these for over a decade. However, in the recent years, they are not near as good as they used to be. Whereas in the past I would give them a 5, now I call them a 3 at best. Too bad, as I truly liked these. The reasons the change of opinion follows. They are not as sturdy and prone to breakage when compared to the past versions. Usually the attachment point of the cable to the lever breaks. Sometimes other parts break and snap. Whereas they used to be able to lift a red brick or sizable rock with ease, now they can't as they have less holding power. Not that I do that often, but it used to be able to do that. Not anymore. The suction cups used to always close at the lower part first, thereby making it easier to pick small items or soft shaped items such as dog poop. NOW however, virtually everyone I have bought has the suction cups open at the end, or bottom. Sometimes I can adjust this to reduce it, but it can never be adjusted to properly close anymore. Therefore, its versatility is vastly reduced. The wrist support is absolutely grand. Currently and in the past! If all you need it for is picking up a tissue or cereal box, YOU WILL FIND THIS ONE FINE. It looks pretty too. Don't expect to pick up coins, nuts, bolts, drill bits, and so on. Good luck on your decision.

Great tool for post-surgery.
I needed this after having back surgery as you are not allowed to bend over. You don't realize how much you bend until you can't. I have dropped small pills on the floor and was able to pick them up with this. Very helpful item to have.

Wonderful tool for someone who never thought they would need one...
I can't say enough about this reaching tool! I'm 32, and certainly didn't think I would need something like this at my age...then a dreaded herniated disk struck me a few months ago, and it became an essential item for me to have around the house. I just recently had surgery to correct the problem and bending to pick things up is a big no-no for a while, so this item is perfect for sticking to my restrictions. I originally bought the 26-inch version for my grandma after all the ones (of a different brand) that she had broke at the joint in the middle, but it was a little too short for me to pick things up from the floor, so I tried this longer version, and it is just the right length for me. The only thing bad about it is that the clear wrist support is kinda delicate (the other one broke off), so I would recommend leaving it out all the time unless it bothers you to do so. I've been using it for 3 months, and it seems to be pretty durable overall. I am definitely going back for a couple more to keep in different rooms of the house.
