Superior Quality
No need to wait until instal to review. This is a rock solid rod holder and extension. For those who have complained about the break in period because 360 pull/push is hard to orientate...you absolutely want it to be hard to pop out. It's a tabbed recess so it won't get yanked out by Walter. Excellent product Update: Install was super easy and I deffinatly wanted to use my hardware of choice for my application. You have a life long customer Cannon and I am speaking about the life of the rod holders not mine. I ordered two more right after I installed the first two. No brainer...

Excellent rod holders with some undeserved negative reviews!
I don't write many reviews on Amazon but I've used these rod holders for a few years and just ordered 2 brand new ones for the new kayak sitting in my garage. I just happened to look at the rating and noted a few fairly low reviews couldn't help but look at them as I was dumbfounded by what people would really ding these for. I would like to start by giving my $.02 with regard to the most common complaint folks have for these; lack of mounting hardware. I haven't bought another brand of rod holder in a long time and can't honestly remember if any others I bought came with hardware or not. That said, these are made to accommodate multiple mounting options. I personally have sockets mounted horizontally and vertically on my old aluminum boat with wooden gunnels and a small plywood deck on the back. I also have them already mounted on a custom Lexan "dashboard" I built on a kayak I've converted for fishing and through plastic plywood kayak decks and cockpit combing on that 'yak and another. Now, if anyone knows a single type of mounting hardware that will cover all of those situations and would fit in the box with these, please contact me. I want to not only purchase a large supply, but possibly invest in the company that makes it! Ok, off my soapbox about that. Here's how I see these in a nutshell: PROS: Very versatile: Like most of these, the provided socket can be mounted flat or vertically to handle many applications. There are also a few other optional mounts available if the provided one doesn't work for you. The shape of the holder itself is very well thought out. I use them for both my trolling rods with baitcasting reels and spinning outfits with different rod butt lengths and they work great for all. Durable: I have about 8 of these, several of which have "lived" on the aforementioned aluminum boat for 2-3 years. I am far too lazy to take them off the boat when not using and the boat is almost never under cover. Translation, they've been beaten to death by California UV rays, and other than some discoloration, are still holding up very well. CONS (few products are without some): Price: Without a doubt, these are not cheap. Several other manufacturers make functional versions for notably less. When younger and poorer I used several of them with mixed results. "Fit and finish" on the extended stems. I bought a pair of these for one of my 'yaks. They work but are VERY tight to get in the sockets. They seem to be SLOWLY wearing in but this is the big reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. No standard replacement post available that I'm aware off. This probably isn't huge for most folks but I like to use rod holder sockets to mount other fishing accessories, such as camera mounts. It would be nice if Cannon offered just the posts, like their chief competitor does (HINT: Beam me up...) I hope my review "kept it real" and is of help for anyone considering these.

Simply the best
The media could not be loaded. I have bought 4 of these at different times, can't say how much I love it. I use it for jigging as well as trolling. Particularly, when I mount it on a Jigger, I needed to be able to move the rod forward or backward based on rod and lure weight, this holder has 3 positions that allows me to do exactly that. Positives: 3 places to put the rod, which allows you to adjust your rod forward to back according to needs. 3 way to mount the base angle of the hold easily adjustable Sturdy yet not cumbersome Reasonable price Negatives: NONE.

Canon Rod Holder
These are a Godsend! Don't waste your time and money on those "cheap" clamp-on rod holders that will inevitably fail. Installed correctly (it would be helpful if they provided instructions), these are rock-solid rod holders that work with most fishing poles and reels. They do work best with longer handle fishing rods, but you can improvise by affixing the reel in the "up position" or adding some PVC piping to the end of shorter rod handles. I installed 4 of these HORIZONTALLY (2 in back, 2 in front) on my 14 foot, deep-V aluminum boat as follows: 1. Use 2-one and one-eighth inch, 1/4-20, stainless steel hex bolts (INBOARD) for EACH holder, utilizing the TOP 2 MOUNTING HOLES. No need to use all 4 mounting holes unless you're fishing for tuna! Your length may vary depending on the thickness of your gunwales. I set my holders 1/2" below the gunwales to ENSURE CLEARANCE OF THE ADJUSTMENT KNOB. **Double-check clearance of knob BEFORE drilling 1/4" holes!!! 2. Use stainless 1/4" flat-washers (behind hex nut heads) inboard (inside boat), and outboard (outside of boat) of brackets (squirt silicone BEHIND OUTBOARD flat-washer, then add stainless 1/4" lock-washer, and finally, a 1/4" lock-nut. **Snug tightly, but NOT TOO TIGHTLY! You'll risk cracking the nylon brackets. No need to "reef" down the hardware with gorilla force! Just make sure the brackets are secure when you try to move them manually. 3. Wipe off excess silicone with a paper towel. Will never leak once cured. **WARNING** Make sure you mount the brackets so the TOP rod-holder, when PULLED UP TO LOOSEN, comes off INBOARD!!! This is crucial, otherwise you risk losing your fishing pole and rod-holder if a big fish hits and you haven't pushed down and "LOCKED" the holder!! Experiment before fastening hardware and you'll see what I mean. **The TOP rod-holder MUST come OFF facing the INSIDE of your boat when adjusting the holder position. The brackets really should've been marked with "top". Hope this helps!

To Big
The holder seems to be very durable and old be very hard to break. Although I bought this for my kayak, not knowing how big it really is. The holder couldn't properly secure my rod because it is just a small spinning reel. As a heads up to others this holder is quite large and made for much bigger rods. This one I use is mostly for catching small bass and pike.
