We love making pizza pockets with this!
We've used it to make pizza pockets so far over our stove. You don't need to be camping to use this, but it probably makes it much better. Brings back memories of my childhood!

I admit I agonized too long over which pie iron to get due to such conflicting reviews on so many of the listings...but i am SO happy i go this one!! its perfect. good quality product and its true heavy cast iorn. these made the most perfect cinnamon rolls over the fire place!! i do mean perfect! we just used small squares of cooking parchment paper to keep it from sticking, and they came out easily. JUST GET IT! we also made cookies fireside...cant wait to try other things on the next camping trip! so glad i got this

Absolutely perfect.
We took them camping with us the weekend after we recievedthem. They worked great. Good quality/well made. I'm very happy with this purchase. These are 10x better than the aluminum/crappy ones we bought at a big box store. These are heavier (cast iron obviously), & well made. The handles aren't exceptionally long, but I don't know of any others on the market that are longer. They're easy to use and there is a locking S hook that keeps the halves together while its in the fire. Our kiddos had fun making their own personal toasties. We made pizza mountain pies, grilled cheese, & toasted PB&Js. Clean up was a snap. After allowing them to cool, a quick wash with warm soapy water and they're all set for the next meal. They're absolutely perfect.

Worked as well as others I've used
I'm not sure what type of monstrous bread some of the people are using, but my standard white sandwich bread fits perfectly in this iron. It sealed the edges of the bread and there was very little crust to cut off from the outside. It's the perfect size if you ask me. Any bigger and the bread would not get sealed by the iron around the edges and your filling will ooze or fall out when you pick it up to eat it. I have used several other brands over the years as a moderately experienced camper, both square and round irons (always cast iron never aluminum). This is just as good so far.

Does the job!
Nice heavy cast iron, well seasoned. It's slower to warm up but also less likely to burn the pie than my other (aluminum) pie iron. A bit smaller than my other one too, but maybe that's by design, so that you can get nicely crimped edges. My only real complaint is that it's hard to latch closed.

Hinge Breaks Easily
I still have the set of pie irons my parents purchased 40 years ago, so in 2018 I purchased them for all of my children. I have been very disappointed that 3 of the 4 Camp Chef Pie Irons have broken off at the hinge. They are not strong enough to handle a child forcing s hook closed down by the iron it's self. Be careful that you always close gently, and slid the s hook down after it is latched up top where it is looser. I am now on the look out for another brand hoping to find something stronger, like they used to make them 40 years ago.

That was so much fun!
We bought these for an upcoming camping trip about a week ago and decided to try them over our fire pit in the back yard before we go. They were so much fun I immediately ordered 2 more of the double square irons so we can get them before our trip. We made cheese pizza pockets and they were super easy and very good. We also purchased the "Pie Iron Recipes Book" for some recipe suggestions but it turns out there were already several great recipes listed on the cardboard packing that came with the pie irons. They are on the small side but if you buy some "smaller" bread it can fit nicely and then crimp the edges shut to hold in the filling. Very good buy and a good price.
