Not worth the money
This lamp was exactly what I wanted…right size, right color and worked beautifully for about three weeks. It then would not turn on at all. I changed the light bulb thinking the bulb may have been defective. Checked the cord for defects. All to no avail. The lamp is now sitting in a lamp repair shop in my local city waiting to be repaired. I paid almost $150 for that lamp. It most certainly should have lasted more than three weeks! This is one customer you will not see again.

Design is great, performs well... low quality implementation for a fantastic design
I would really give 3.5 Stars but it's not an option. I wanted to LOVE this lamp and if I had, would have purchased at least one more. It is a great concept but with a poor quality implementation. I chose to keep it as for $104.95 including shipping, it was worth it to me to keep but not for the original purpose in my formal living room: It is in the den now. However, if I could find a better quality implementation of the same/similar design, I would buy that in a minute! The height adjustment with the horizontal manual rotation of the lamp head give the perfect set of options for anyone of any height trying to read sitting up, laying down or any position in between. ++++++++ Pros ++++++++++++ + Design is great, vertical adjustment is a great idea but not implemented well (it bows and does not line up as well as it should) + having the cord come directly from the lighted piece rather than the floor piece allows it to sit flat on the floor (image does not indicate that the power cord is from the bottom of the adjustable top bar) + Color of the finish is great (Quality is something else) ---------------- Cons ------------------------ - Finish quality is poor, a bit cheap looking in fact. This is not evident in the picture. It scratches easily from adjusting the vertical height. - poor quality sheet metal for the light housing head. The seems are uneven and that adds to the "cheap" feel of the lamp - base is cheap looking and with a different finish than what is on the rest of the lamp

Have had it for 7 years and still like it....
I purchased this lamp in 2012 and at the time I hesitated because I don't like to buy furnishings sight unseen. What appealed to me about this pharmacy lamp was the fact that it could take up to a 100 watt bulb and it had adjustable height. I wanted it for next to my reading chair. I remember how heavy the box was when the package arrived. The base of this lamp is seriously weighted. The shade can be adjusted to shut off glare from the bulb and the entire top of the lamp swivels. I use mine directly over the chair when reading and I nudge the shade away when using my iPad. The interior of the metal shade (at least on my lamp) has a shiny silver lining to reflect the light. The cord does come from the pole of the lamp rather than from the base, and that could be a turn off if your lamp is away from the wall, but mine is between a bookcase and the chair so I don't really notice the cord. I chose the bronze color and it blends into its environment with the bookcase behind it. Because I've had my lamp for seven years now - and use it daily, moving the shade back and forth as desired - I had to have the lamp rewired last year but it is a good product so I didn't mind the expense. I realize I purchased my lamp many years ago, and the product may have changed in the interim, but if you read the more current reviews - and if they are still good - then I think you will be pleased with this purchase.

Bought Two
The first lamp was wonderful so bought another several months later. The second lamp cannot be adjusted for height. Something is wrong with it and we know how to assemble it. It will not line up so we can adjust the height. It was not worth the trouble to repackage it and send it back so ended up just keeping it. We would have asked for another as it is a manufacturing problem but the hassle of having to package and mail the defective item was too much for us to handle. If we could have taken it to UPS where they package and ship it we would have. The packaging was too damaged to re use. First time we encountered this problem with one of our Amazon orders

Simple but elegant design
I liked this lamp so much I ordered a second one. It’s well made and is contemporary enough that’ll fit into any style living room.

Could be better for the price
If this lamp had a good finish quality, I would rate it much higher. But it is just OK. I like the style of it, it is pretty solid once you put it together, and it has a nice hefty weight. But the finish is poor. The "dark bronze" finish is a very thin coat over brighter metal, and mine arrived with numerous scratches in the finish coat. In particular, the metal shade (which is a very light tin-like metal) had big scratches showing bright metal below. The base is some kind of pot metal with a finish metal over top of it. That material doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the base on one side. There are circular ridges on the base that are meant to look decorative, with the ridges purposely ground down to show bright metal, but it gives it a cheap look. Also, the base doesn't sit perfectly flat and if you push on the pole you can rock it. Fortunately it is heavy enough it doesn't really matter. I would prefer it if the adjustable pole would go a couple inches lower to use as a reading lamp by the couch, with the lamp head a few inches below head level while seated. Given the workmanship, I would expect it to be in the $50 price range. That being said, I like it well enough to keep it. I'll try to find some bronze touch-up paint.
