Don't over-tighten screws, use construction glue for best results
I was a bit leery about buying this item after reading the bad reviews, but after buying and assembling the desk, 2 drawer file cabinet, and 2 door cabinet with the bottom file drawer, I'm happy so far. I think most of the complaints are due to faulty assembly techniques - I did not have any problems other than a sore hand from screwing tons of screws into these units. Here are my suggestions which explains/solves the complaints: 1. Use a medium size screwdriver, the largest that will fit the screw properly so you don't strip out the head. 2. Make sure the screw goes STRAIGHT into the pre-drilled hole. Don't force it in - just place the screw in the hole, keep your screwdriver straight up, and start turning with minimal pressure. The screws are designed to be self-drilling and will go straight in without force until the last 1/8" or so. WARNING: if you don't get the screw straight-in on the drawer slides, the drawer may catch on the protruding screw head and the drawer will "bang" when opened and/or closed, so be extra careful there to get the head well seated. 3. Use a thin bead of fast grabbing construction glue between all wood joints, then wipe away the excess after screwing the parts together or tightening the cam locks. I used less than a caulking gun tube of "Loctite 0-second grab" for all 3 units which is white, water based (so the excess wipes clean with a damp paper towel), and is workable for 15 minutes. Do not glue down the tops of the desk (only) or 2 cabinets on the ends of the desk to the 2 horizontal supports that join in the corner - else you will not be able to un-assemble the desk to move it somewhere else. You can skip using the cheap supplied glue on the dowels if you use the Loctite. 4. Do not over-tighten the screws that hold the drawer sides together - just snug them up without excessive force else you may cause the (thinner) draw sides to crumble - and use the Loctite ! 5. Do not over tighten crooked cam locks. Some cam locks may not fully seat in the hole but will wrap around the post and tighten properly. Make them very snug and they will hold. Over tightening these may bend or break the cam lock - and NOTE they give you only the exact number of parts to assemble the unit, not a single extra screw. If you break a part you will be stuck 3-5 days waiting for a replacement from Bush. 6. Do not over tighten the screws that hold the drawer fronts to the drawer box. The holes in the drawer box front are slightly over-sized so you can adjust the front. Make the screws lightly seated, install the drawer, then straighten/align the drawers top-bottom and left-right then tighten. You can also place a shim between the front and the drawer box front if necessary. On one drawer I added a small piece of cardboard from a cereal box to get a perfect top-bottom alignment. 7. If you are placing these on a hardwood floor: I replaced the small glides supplied with Shepherd 3/4" glides and ACE anti-skid pads to prevent the units from moving if bumped If you follow the directions closely and use the above techniques, you should end up with a very nice product that is very sturdy and functional. During assembly, position each piece on the floor exactly as it appears in the instructions and you won't have any do-overs.....and regarding those folks that commented "it took hubby about an hour to put it together", LMAO ;-)

There are a few issues…..
First of all, the overall work at the filing cabinet is very nice. But there are a few issues: 1. When assembling the drawers the instructions for making one drawer lock while the other one is open is backwards. So you need to do the opposite of what it says in the instructions. 2. When completely assembled the filing cabinet leans forward because it does not have any type of stability piece that goes straight across the front between it and the floor. The other three sides do. 3. When you’re assembling the filing cabinet, each individual drawer (what you see on the outside which contains the handle) is a FACE PLATE. The screws are NOT long enough! There’s a very good chance you’re gonna have to go out to the garage and get longer screws. Because the screws that are included, earmarked for this step, barely attach the face plate to the drawer. We had the same issue with the desk. One out of every four screws striped out.

Solid and attractive
I wanted a lateral file to replace two metal two-drawer cabinets. This one is attractive, sturdy, and priced reasonably. Space is tight in my home office, so I like that this one looks like furniture but does not have the extra wide top; all is lined up neatly to save space. I was able to consolidate my previous cabinets with room to spare and appreciate that I can reach all files easily. Material is not MDF or sawn wood; I think you'd call it particleboard. But it seems durable and all edges are finished so you wouldn't know. The box was super heavy. We gently "rolled" it up our few front steps and then unpacked it in the living room to carry parts upstairs. It was well protected by Styrofoam and no parts were damaged. My 15-year-old son put this together for me; he likes engineering. It took him four hours to carefully read and follow directions. I only had to help stabilize pieces when he assembled the large "box" frame. He did have to chisel away a little wood in order to insert a support bar under one of the drawers; the hole was drilled too close to the drawer. Otherwise, everything fit nicely. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Great peice but faulty holes drilled
This cabinet is very pretty and looks great with my Christopher Lowell desk, that is no longer made. I was searching for something to blend with it. I am thinking of getting another, or maybe the matching bookcase. The only problem my experienced flat pack builder husband had, is the same as other's have reported. That is, that the holes are drilled in the wrong place. So if it doesn't make sense, it's not you, it's them. This was on the façade of the drawer, how it attaches to the front of the drawer box . You'll have to carefully drill new holes. Carefully because it's particle board, so use a really sharp, new drill bit, not too big and don't push too hard or you'll go through the wood to the front. We didn't do this but it's happened before on another project so just saying, be careful. Other than that, it went together well, the drawer glides are functional and the drawers close nicely. I've seen others where all of these things were an issue. Get it put together and you're home free!

I like them (just grateful I didn't have to assemble)
I bought two of these. I like them (just grateful I didn't have to assemble). My one complaint is the drawers will open on their own if you have too much in them. I had read some reviews that say they tip over. But after calling Bush Furniture, I understood how to ensure that I did not have that problem. My laser printer sits on top of one and my TV on top of the other. They compliment the rest of my desk set perfectly and brighten up my room. UPDATE: While my two file drawers are beautiful the drawers do not stay closed. I had to purchase two magnetic catches per drawer each for them. I tried discussing this with Bush Industries and they tried to help by sending some risers. But, that did not work.
