I've never done needle crafts before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Over the years, my Grandma made Bucilla stockings for my entire family, but lost her eyesight before I had my first child. So I decieded I had to carry on her tradition. I have almost completed the stocking, and will have it done in time for my sons 2nd Christmas. It is fairly easy once you get started, although overwhelming at first. I strongly suggest watching u-tube videos anytime your confused about how to do a stitch. Also if you're brand new to needle work, save yourself a LOT of time, look up easy tricks to knot the tread! The kit includes good, detailed directions; however, in less you're familiar to this type of project it might be confusing at first. At least it was to me, but once I got started things started to make sense. Like other reviewers, the needles in the kit were not color coded as stated in the directions. The smallest needle is for the beading. I also ran out of red sequines but was able to take some out of a different kit I bought last year at a local craft store (the train is soooo cute and I figured if I was going to spend all the time and energy making the stocking, I should buy the best one I could find)! The rest of the supplies had ample quantities. I didn't care for the font included so I found one I liked in MS Word and wrote my son's name free hand on tracing paper and it worked very well. Overall I'm very impressed with the quality of the stocking. I know it was be treasured for years to come and I'm looking forward to making more stocking in the future. Amazon had by far the best prices I could find online and with free shipping as an option, how can you lose?

Darling stocking, but not the stocking of the past.
Rating design, this stocking is a 4.5. It is darling and full of detail that really comes to life as you sew the stocking, however I was surprised by how small the toe is compared to other stockings I have made. This was my 4th stocking I have made, and the 6th stocking in my family immediate family, yet the toe is a scarce three inches deep compared with the 5 inch deep toes of the older stockings. I thought by initially looking at the picture that the smoke stack was sewn to part of the toe and the wheels were also attached to the body of the stocking, but the "engine" of the stocking is all you get in toe. For a small child who will hopefully get a lifetime of use, the stocking doesn't stuff very well. I am scoring this low because some of the felt was thin, and relatively poor quality, plus the design paint wears off very easy. I found through careful handling, I could for the most part preserve the pattern, but it wasn't near as easy as previous stockings. Plus there are areas that were to be sewn last in which the paint was nearly all gone by the time I got to that section. Thank goodness for the picture to keep me on track. I also noticed that the candy cane stripe at the top is sequined on half of the red stripes, but sequins are not called for closer to the holly. I fortunately had enough thread and sequins to add my own so the stripe looked even. So as much as I love the look of the stocking, I would say the design and quality doesn't compare to the Bucilla Stockings of yesteryear. This stocking doesn't have the quality of the stockings I made from this company 10 and 20 years ago.

Works up beautifully
My mom started making these for the family 41 years ago now I have taken over the labor of love. Still the the high quality and beauty my mom would have expected.

Christmas stockings missing sequins
I love this product. This is the 7th stocking I am making this year. My problem is that in this kit there wasn't any gokd sequins. Thank goodness I always keep all my sequins. First time I was missing something.

Not easy for first timers but give it a go
My first time at making a ‘stocking’.. it will look fabulous when finished.. don’t know if I’m using ‘too many stitches’ on each piece but I am running low on silk thread and am now going to have to buy more.. plus ultra thin needle and thread needed for sequins and tiny beads, the ones supplied are too thick.. not for the ‘faint hearted’ but well worth the effort
