Size isn't accurate. UPDATED COMMENT AND STAR!
I want to start off by saying that this is a very sturdy, reliable playpen with a great weight that will not disappoint in quality. It was everything I was wanting, except for the size. The description says that the playpen is 9 sq. ft., which would be PERFECT for 2-3 guinea pigs. (depending on gender) It's made by Midwest, which also makes a veterinarian recommended cage for guinea pigs that measures in 8 sq. ft. When I ordered this playpen I was expecting to receive one that was 1 sq. ft. larger than their current cage, so they'd have a bigger space to run around in during play time. I would say that this playpen is closer to 5, maybe even 4.5 sq. ft. once you set it up. It's definitely smaller than their Midwest cage, and it doesn't give them the extra space they advertise. I REALLY wish it was the advertised size, because I would've given it a perfect score and been very enthusiastic about my purchase! That picture shows my two baby guinea pigs (one 9mo, one 3wk) playing in the playpen. UPDATE: I contacted MidWest directly via email and they issued me another playpen for free to make up for the lack of space with just one. It took about two weeks to get in, but all I had to do was send them a purchase confirmation and my address. I was so happy with how simple the entire process was! Now that I've connected two of them, it's the perfect size/space for my two guinea pigs. I'm sure that it is even big enough for 3-5 guinea pigs. (Depending on male/female.) The connected space is well over 9 sq.ft. I stand by what I said as far as quality goes, and considering how easy it was to get the additional playpen to make up for the smaller-than-advertised space, I'd definitely recommend if you're willing to go that route. To be honest, I still have no idea how the single one can be so small, but the additional one makes a HUGE difference. It's unreal, but included is a picture.

Well made!
I found one of these at a thrift store 20 years ago! I was so surprised to find it on Amazon and be able to add length to mine by getting 3 more! The fence is so well made; exactly like my first one (that was made so many years ago - don’t hear that very often)! I have used the pieces in various ways. At one house to keep our pet on our front porch - I used it open between two pillars, and now as a playpen on a rug in our living room, and to connect our dogs crate to her litter tray, and to divide our porch for puppy training. Not tall enough for big pets but perfect for little ones. It folds and stores easily, it is a bit weighty because it is strong… not flimsy. They connect so easily and look nice too!

The media could not be loaded. Conclusion: For the price this playpen is great if you have small animals and want to give them time outside there cage and can't always be watching them. The page should remove the bit about ferrets. I'll be buying another one in order to increase the available size so that both of my ferrets can have room to play and explore. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because of the advertised ferret capability, if you have small animals you can't find a better cage for the price! Pros: The playpen is a bit heavy which makes it hard for small animals to move it around. It folds up nicely for compact storage. It has a coating on it that is teeth friendly if your small animals try to bite it. It has vertical bars which make climbing the playpen hard for small animals (except for ferrets, more on that later). Cons: The page for the pen states that it is great for ferrets. I would say this playpen is meant more for small animals like hamsters or guinea pigs. The pen is tall enough so that ferrets really have to give it a go in order to get out. That being said it allows me to cook in the kitchen while watching them in the living room and not be afraid of them going somewhere there not suppose to.

This is by far one of the best play pens around
We had been searching for ages for a playpen for two very play full gerbils. This is by far one of the best play pens around, it is higher than all the others we had seen on line and very sturdy, which is exactly what is needed for gerbils (in their bid for freedom). It is more expensive than others but well worth every penny in the long run. It comes already put together, all that is needed is for the gate to be hooked on to the rest of the pen and it's ready to use! This is the play pen to consider if you are a gerbil owner.

The best thing I've bought for gerbils
This is by far the best thing I have bought for our gerbils. None of the other playpens are high enough and/or have horizontal bars which are useless for animals which can use them as a ladder. One of the gerbils can climb to the top so we still have to watch them (though you could cover it over to stop escapees). It's sturdy, big enough (you could join two or more together) and is really easy to fold down pretty small. It is pricey really for what it is but actually worth every penny as because it's metal it should last forever.

Really great for gerbils, as they chew through all the other playpens... My dominant gerbil over few weeks learned how to jump out, so I had to purchase the net, it usually uses loke a digging tunnel to go on top n jump out, but over few weeks ive noticed didn't even need that anymore... My other gerbil dnt try to jump out... I also like to make it bigger, i would open both sides and place it in a way that theres no gaps between the sides n furniture , n no need to purchase second one for more space , its great...

it is a well made product and am pleased with it the only trouble is we have a very exuberant hamster and we cannot keep her in we have had to buy Perspex to put on top then place baked bean tins on top to try and stop her escaping she must be the only hamster to climb vertical bars !! apart from that the cage itself is brilliant regards Barbara
