Tough but until it isn’t.
I love these bits. Doing rough-ins through studs, it’s important to be able to get the wires where you need them and overall, these bits are fantastic. They will get you through nails or screws easily enough that you might not even realize you hit one. I’ve actually used a file more times than I can count in order to bring the edge back to these bits. However, they do need to you to put a little muscle behind the drill at times to punch through. And I can honestly say, up until yesterday, these bits have held up no matter if I used it in my regular drill or my impact. Yesterday though, I was disappointed to experience the quick connect portion had snapped off inside my drill. First day using the new 1” bit I had bought to replace one that’s threads had worn out after a year of use and abuse. Still love these bits overall, but I am very disappointed in this specific situation.

edit: Avoid
The media could not be loaded. These bits are absolutely what they say they are. They are probably 3 to 4 times heavier than a standard spade or paddle bits. These bits will also travel through 16d nails and below like there is nothing there. However, these bits reminded me of a very important lesson in all tool related endeavors- “know what your weak link is.” it didn’t occur to me at first but these bits are made of much harder streep than your average spade bit . The head or shaft of a bit is normally the weak link. In the case of my experience with these bits, the collet of your impact driver is likely going to be your weak link. I was working on a house built in the early 60’s with lots of oak and dense pine studs, of course all the nails where hand drives. I used these bits to very great success, but made the mistake of using an impact driver rather than a drill with a chuck. I didn’t realize what had happened until I went to change out the drill bit to run some screws. The bit kept falling out (see video above). I basically ruined a brand new impact driver because these very stout, hard bits rounded out the collet. With this in mind, I used a keyed chuck right angle drill. The bits worked well - though I missed the torque of the impact driver. athe keyed chuck froze the bit in place and so it could not do any harm. Another problem with these bits is that they really make a mess on modern studs without nails. I guess I am spoiled, but I really want a bit to take care of the tough things and breeze through the east ones. This bit is so stout the holes in new studs looked like inhad used a chisel. The blow out on the other side of the whole was so bad, I felt like I needed to clean it up so it didn’t harm the romex. Not to mention the workmanship looked pathetic. So rather than the panacea I thought these would be, they have become a special purpose tool. If I am in a location where I anticipate nails I grab my right angle drill with these chucked up, other wise I am more likely to use a normal spade bit and impact driver. I am glad I have these, but it is disappointing to not be able to use them with an impact driver. I would not discourage anyone from buying these, but they will not solve all the problems. If you are doing a reno with some old hard, dry wood and hand driven nails - these certainly give you an option other than finding a new path for your romex. Update: these are almost too strong for their own good. I have never owned a drill bit that was so capable, and yet has torn up so many tools. 2nd update: I ruined two perfectly good bit extensions trying to drill 1 hole. The bits sheered off where the shaft narrows I am throwing the rest away of my 3/4” + bits away. These bits have ruined almost everything they have touched and wasted a great deal of time. They work, but the cost of them working is just too great. I think I can use the smaller ones to takeout the nails making a couple of holes and then rounding out with a carbide hole bit.

Broke in first hour
They replaced it, but it's not that great at boring once the threaded portion is through the wood. The wings aren't aggressive enough.

Weak tool.
Disappointing bit. Yes it did go through a nail. Next use it hit a nail. The bot bent and the shaft twisted. At $10 a bit i Won't be buying these again. Ruined the first day i used it.
