The silver/black set is longer than the black set
I purchased both the black and the silver/black ski and boot bag sets. The black set does NOT fit 185 cm skiis. The silver/black set does. Neither set has any padding (not good for airline travel but perfect for local skiing when you want to carry your gear to the lodge and put the bags in a locker). In my opinion, the silver/black set is worth the extra $17 - unless you are on a very tight budget. Both sets will do the job equally well-unless your skiis are 185 cm - but the silver/black set is nicer: the ski bag has straps with clips and the zipper runs the entire length of the bag (the other set's straps don't have clips and the zipper runs about 3/4 of the length of the bag), the boot bag has a zipper pocket to store extra gear away from the boots, a shoulder strap, a velcro-closed hand carrier strap, and a somewhat supported bottom on the bag. The black set has none of these things. The two sets are equally well-made, though the silver/black set looks cooler and the silver material is a bit sleeker. I think the black material is the same on both sets. I was able to fit my helmet, goggles, gloves, socks, ski pants, underarmour and fleece pants in the boot bag along with my boots (I'm an average sized female).

Quality protection at a great price.
This product provides the protection I was looking for at a nice price. I needed bags to store my skis and boots in as well as travel from home to resorts within driving distance. They fit my 174cm skis and poles with room to spare. The boot bag fits a pair of boots plus I'm sure I could stuff some other accessories such as gloves, goggles, etc in there. The cinch straps work well to secure the extra material and make the package streamline. The bag isn't padded and is not necessarily made out of the absolute most durable material so if I were to take them on a plane I would surely secure them with some extra padding. All in all for the price you can't beat these bags for basic protection and to make hauling the skis from the car to the slopes easy.

Leaves something to be desired
I ordered this for my first pair of skiis so we could travel to Park City. First of all, probably mainly my ignorance (I am a new skiier) but the ski bag is not padded. The 30 dollar price should have tipped me off but I just didn't realize. It is great for carrying to the local mountain and keeping the dust off at the house but I would not use this for travelling where skiis have to be stowed in a cargo area. They will get destroyed. The boot bag I did take with me and check. I am overall pretty happy with this. I can fit my boots, helmet, goggles, a hat and even my skipants into this bag. I was unhappy though that one of the handles is starting to rip through. So, final analysis- If you just carry to and from a local mountain, this is a fine product. If you need to travel this is not a very rugged product and I would reccommend something else.

Good quality bags
I replaced my moldy bags with new ones. I learned to not store the bags in a basement! The Athalon Two-Piece Ski and Boot Bag Combo is of decent quality and is a good value. I am happy that this product was still available, five years after my initial purchase. I have used my new set twice, so far, this ski season.

Price is right
I ordered this bag combo for a recent ski trip to Colorado. The ski bag worked just dandy, but I did notice quite a few tears in the fabric after the trip (just 2 flights). I doubt it will last me more than a couple more trips out and back, but for the price, it's hard to beat. The boot bag, on the other hand, seems to be working just fine w/ no rips. I'm sure I'll try to get the most our of the bag w/ a little duct tape headed forward. (I'll look like a real honest to goodness ski bum).

Not a bad ski & boot bag set--for $40!
I have never heard of Athalon. I'm guessing that it's one of those contrived names that Chinese luggage manufacturers think up that sounds sporty. I needed a new ski bag, and I did not want to pay more than $100. This set was just $40 for a 2 piece ski and boot bag set. It's not flashy, but then again, I really don't want an expensive looking ski bag, so potential thieves at both the luggage claim and the ski area don't know that I have an expensive set of K2's inside that bag. The bags are black and constructed of somewhat flimsy laminated-on-the-inside nylon construction, so I doubt that these bags will handle more than 4-5 round trips of airline abuse, but for the money-not a bad deal.

Not quite as advertised
While the bags are nicely constructed and look exactly as they do in the advertised picture, they didn't quite measure up. Literally. I spent a good deal of time researching ski bags and reading reviews before I made my purchase, and I decided upon the Athalon bags because of the numerous good reviews indicating quality construction and the amount of storage space the bags allowed. The good price was a bonus. My husband was very happy with his Christmas present until he went to put his skis into the ski bag. They did not fit. Based on the reported length, they should have, but about 3-4" of the skis stick out the end of the bag preventing them from being completely enclosed. Needless to say, I was not pleased.

just fine
My son and i have taken these on two trips out west. We pack our clothes around the skis, enough for three days. I wish the zipper went from end to end. The strap at the end is useless if your skis are longer than 170. We can put our boots and helmet in the boot bag. The only think i would change is make the zipper from end to end.

Seems not that sturdy. But again
Pro: The boots bag is legit. Has a padding on the bottom, thick enough for bag to withstand the weight of the boots. Ski bag has multiple straps to wrap the ski outside the bag. Very affordable price compared to what's out there in the retail. If you're not a serious skiier, just regular "for-fun" skiier, and dont intend on going hardcore trips, this bag will do its job at a satisfying rate. Con: Material isnt necessary waterproof. Ski bag doesnt have the padding as boots bag does. I feel over time, the weight of ski + blades from ski will tear the bottom of the bag or the handle. Seems not that sturdy. But again, if you're willing to take care of it, maybe even add carboard box as a padding inside, it will help and will endure. Just got to improvise. Overall, for $40, Id say Im happy with this and can last a long time (+3 yrs) with it. I dont intent on carrying my skis in bag for a long time. Just from slope to parking lot.

Just what I was looking for.
I wanted something nice and simple for my skis. This was perfect and at the best price. Your not getting anything extra or any bells or whistles here. I put my skis in one bag, my boots in the other and zipped them up. The Zippers probably aren't the best, so I would recommend being a little careful when zipping. but the canvas seems tough enough if it moves around in the trunk.

Bad design of ski bag.
The boot bag is OK, but the ski bag is not; a) my 176cm skis barely fit into the bag (185s would not), b) the upper strap over the opening zipper does not disconnect so it is very difficult to put the skis into the bag due to having to thread the skis through this strap in spite of the long zipper opening, c) the strap at the bottom of the bag is right at the bottom of the bag and cannot strap the skis unless the bag is folded over for skis significantly shorter than 176cm, and d) the is no mid ski strap. I can fix all of these faults but I should no have to.

Not amazing quality, but respectable for the price.
The bag is much smaller than we were expecting - can only barely fit a pair of boots - but the quality is OK for the price. Don't expect thick material or anti-slip coatings/piping, but both of these bags serve their purpose well. Ski bag can easily fit 3 pairs of cross country or 2 pairs of downhill skis.

excellent for CC skis less than 185 cm
excellent. We use it for my daughter's 165 cm cross country skis. She has a set of classic and skate with poles and room to spare for the other two kids classics and poles. Bag is good for all their boots. Not sure how durable it would be for a heavy downhill skis with steel sides.
